Just wondering is there a book version not a poem thats actually good?
It's an epic poem, so it's essentially just a book.

Awesome! Purely, 100% awesome! The Divine Comedy is mos def one of my all time favorite pieces of literature. I never would have made the connection. This will be an amazing anecdote to bring up.

If nobody has made the connection yet, I want to give the final Audio Logs my own analysis.

In The Divine Comedy, the very center of Hell holds Satan. The ring he is in is for Treason. Satan was the one who betrayed God, the worse betrayal of all. Now obviously in Halo we don't have anything that deep. But if you see the Legendary Ending, it does make sense. In it we see Truth near the SI Core.

Truth betrayed the Elites, which in turn was a betrayal of the Covenant. Covenant? God? In the end, Truth caused a schism in the Covenant, much like what Satan did in Heaven, caused a rift.

Thats my idea of it all anyway.

I love bungie. I love this game.
But Sadie's story was handled by a third group of people. I can't recall who though. Obviously bungie had to approve it and all. But I don't think they wrote it.

Most theory threads I see on these forums are downright ludicrous but this one's excellent and, unlike the others, is backed up by more than just conjecture and opinion.

Good work OP.

If your familar with the poem at the end virgil leads dantes to a whole on the roof of the cave by satin.THey climb it and head to purgertory. If i rember isn't there a hole you buck vrgl and dare jump down but you head up to a lower number.Which in some odd way meant you were going up.Aka the journey to purgatory.Plus at the end vrgl doesn't want to go into the phantom A.K.A Pardise and in the poem vrgl couldn't guide dante through Pardise.Plus i think theres is seven Parts you have to got through on coastal highway and before that you have to go through a locked elavator that only vrgl can open aka the gate to puragatory.

This is absolutely amazing. I know the story of the Divine Comedy and yet this never crossed my mind for a second while playing through the game. To the OP, NinjaTheory and Bungie extremely well done, you guys rock!

three of the samurai creeds Polite Courtesy Compassion and Complete Sincerity OTK is all of these.

i was also going to mention the legendary ending - also the "Great Journey" itself parallels Dante's journey and the covenant is made up of 7 races.
9 total races of beings in the story if you want to count human and forerunner.

I put off reading this thread for 5 days cause I thought it was going to be just a -blam!- troll, but the evidence that is shown is outstanding, and a Bungie rep REALLY REALLY needs to comment on this.

Hi

I kind of hate you people. You are like the guy who "solved the secret of sandtrap" a few months ago. We have a good game. We like the game. The game likes us. There are one or two things that kind of don't make sence. THEN YOU MORONS COME IN WITH BIBLICAL REFERENCES AND F#@$ UP THE WHOLE THING!.

Now whenever I play I will be thinking of this, and how Bungie puts little messages in the game, AND I WILL GO INSANE!!

(but still a good find)

I read a book for my Myth class called Inferno by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. It's kinda hard to find, but you should look it up as it is a modernized version that makes many references to Dante Alighieri. Very good.

Also, AMAZING FIND OP. I knew bungie would do something like this, but i thought it would be referencing biblical events like the trilogy did. The proff to back this up is just totally undoubtable.
Bungie. Are. Geniuses.
