The explosion only made it easier.

The name of the subroutine helping out is the same as the guide in the play. I also hear rumors that with 29/30 audio logs, the cop's script changes so that he tries to kill you (treason/9th circle).

juat sayin', bungie does all these biblical references for the halo series, like Master Chief, for example, Revalations:1:17-18 describes him perferctly, and guess what, the number is 117, his serial tag! hmm, strange (not really)
and wow, a gamer with an attention span long enough to do all of this research, i salute you, gamer-with-less-life-than-LazygamerJc, and i mean that as a compliment, not an insult

Nice job. Reminds me of the Leviathan in Sandtrap.

I must have missed that... what exactly is the Leviathan in Sandtrap?

Yup. It's losely based, in part, on the Divine Comedy. That's why it's a little ironic to read posts filled with grammatical and orthographic errors claiming that "ODLC's storie SUXXORZ".

Nice thread. We need more of those.

Welcome to bungie, you have no rights. play nice!

You know another thing that makes halo 3 odst epic?
The fact that we "played" an epic poem.
Epic poem, epic!

Satans three heads gnawing on each other reminds me of trying to bite your own ear. Just, awkward. But good reference, especially the 9 circles of hell. Explains the labeling of the Audio Logs.

The faces are chewing on betrayers, not themselves. The three are Brutus and Cassius, who were involved in the assassination of Julius Caesar, and Judas Iscariot, for obvious reasons.

I didnt know it was Judas Iscariot, I thought it was the guy that invented homework

ahh... you've been connecting the dots too... I have been working on this for a while but got lost in work and such, glad to see someone else has interests like me! nice work

"Dear Diary: Today I learned me some aliens about the relative foolishness of messing with the ODST's!"

Epic indeed ... as well as the time it took to read all 21 pages of this thread. I need to go read the poem. I already loved ODST, but this just makes it even better. I had already noticed the nine circles and the fact that sub-level 9 was frozen as a reference to speculation about Hell, but since I hadn't read Dante's work I didn't connect them.
Good work on all this guys.

ADDED: Just looked at the map of New Mombassa, the are 9 sections (separated by the huge doors you have to manually open) to it, including the area with the destroyed bridge.

Men, we've led these dumb bugs out to the middle of nowhere to keep from getting their filthy claws on earth, but, we stumbled on to something that's so hot for them, that they're scrambling over each other to get it. Well, I don't care if it's God's own anti-son-of-a-b*tch machine, or a giant hola-hoop, we ain't gonna let them have it. What we will let them have, is a belly full of lead, and a pool of their own blood to drown in!

Holy crap I never noticed this even though I myself have read all of the 'Divine Comedia.' I give this dude an A+ or something because that's definitely putting two and two together!

"Dear Diary: Today I learned me some aliens about the relative foolishness of messing with the ODST's!"

I can't remember if anyone already pointed this out, but at the end of Inferno, Dante and Virgil reach the lowest part of Hell, climb down Satan, the world flips and they find themselves at the beginning of the road that leads to Mt. Purgatory.

Hello Coastal Highway.

I was discussing this with my mate when he came over last night (he's read all 3 parts of the Divine Comedy) and he pointed that one out.

If you have any problems whatsoever that you are complaining about, please, stop complaining and get the f**k over it. :)

it makes sense. every circle of the audio logs is the name of a circle of hell. for example, the circle with the butcher jonas, it contributes to the circle of gluttony. bungie is more clever than we thought. its almost like a future form of the poem set in 2552

Don't you find this interesting how satan's three heads were gnawing on "Brutus" It almost sounds like Brutes. Just thought i would let you know.

In it for the lulz... and gamerscore

This thread is incredible. I had begun to realize the religious implications of the Halo games as Master Chief dies to protect the human race, the 117, etc.
Also, I think it's funny that EA released a Dante's Inferno game. I wasn't planning on playing that, but now I want to because I want to see if Bungie can stealthily do The Divine Comedy better than the game of the same name.

Gods Must Be Strong

Wow Bungie. Now I feel like I played through even less than half a game.

No offense, that's just how I feel right now
