Not sure if this was stated before or not, but when you have 29/30 of the audio logs and the lone NMPD officer investigates Dr. Endesha's body, he become hostile and turns on the Rookie. And thus Treason in sublevel 9.

Also, the Legendary ending depicts Truth in sublevel 9 as some Engineers excavate the Portal. Truth can be seen as a fallen angel of sorts, as Satan was once Lucifer (though that is Paradise Lost) and he now rules "Hell" in a sense.

Satans three heads gnawing on each other reminds me of trying to bite your own ear. Just, awkward. But good reference, especially the 9 circles of hell. Explains the labeling of the Audio Logs.

The faces are chewing on betrayers, not themselves. The three are Brutus and Cassius, who were involved in the assassination of Julius Caesar, and Judas Iscariot, for obvious reasons.

I didnt know it was Judas Iscariot, I thought it was the guy that invented homework

Well we can sure as hell throw him in there now with the kind of homework I've been getting lately.

I don't know for sure but Dante escapes Hell right?
Well at the end when the squad escapes New Mombassa, isn't it the same as escaping Hell?

  • 03.13.2010 4:07 PM PDT

Wait just a minute...

The last two digits on "The Rookies" service tag are "J" and "D"

Now, as I'm sure everyone here knows (or maybe not), The last two digits in a service tag are the initials of the soldier's name. Could it possibly be that the "D" stands for "Dante"? If so, that would just blow my mind.

note: Zekkalkan gets all credit for finding the "initials" thing

hi

Very good analysis. I am still working on my overall analysis of themes of all the halo games. The halo series has a meaning, a theme. Few people realize this, but anyone with a high school level english class under their belt is able to comprehend it. But it's deep, really deep.

  • 03.16.2010 11:15 PM PDT

woah...i knew that the previous halo games had a theme or idea behind them but i never actually thought that ODSTs would be this deep...i just spent like an hour reading and rereading this forum and it still just fasinates me every time. i've always be interested in old legends, tales, myths, religion, and all the sort, but i never thought i would ever be able to see it connected to a game the way this one is. i have to know more...

Thankee sai. And you should hit me up once you're done with it, or post it somewhere on the forums. I'll be interested in reading it =)

Will do. It's gonna be a while though. There's just so much ground to cover.

Lurking since 2009

Wow, thats pretty good. I just want a bungie employee to confirm now XD. Also there are "stone henge rooms" spread around new mombossa. Maybe that has some kind of relation?

  • 03.21.2010 11:17 AM PDT

I can mowdown mongooses. However, I cannot mowdown with a mongoose. However, I can mowdown a mongoose with a mongoose. I still struggle to get a mongoose mowdown by mowing down a mongoose with a mongoose.

I still don't have the achievamable, though.

AHA. So it seems that the Halo series involves some poetry.
Remember this quote? You better.

"This is the way the world ends". That quote is from the major poem, "The Hollow Men". It is a portion of the final stanza of the poem.

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I don't know how much more evidence I can give. This is all allegorical, mind you, and it is up to you to see the connections for yourself. As for the audio logs which were done by Fourth Wall Studios (NOT Bungie), they said so themselves that the logs are a direct allegory to Dante's Inferno. "Each character [Sadie] meets has a counterpart in Dante's Inferno."

And for the dead elites. They're just... dead elites. They were killed by the Brutes, one of the many deaths due to "The Great Schism." There are those "glyphs" near their bodies, but according to Halopedia, "They are usually seen in or near areas of interest, such as locations with dead Sangheili or supply caches." These are created by the Engineers, and I've heard some theories stating that the Engineers recognize the betrayal of the Elites by the Brutes and Prophets, and that the "glyphs" are some sort of memorial to them. I wouldn't put too much stock into a few dead Elites that seemed to be more of a plot point, than anything.

Sectors 4, 5, and 6, I believe. Small triangle rooms with a circle in the middle. Though I haven't played it in a while, and I am unsure of anything dealing with the Stonehenge rooms. They seem to be somewhat of a sanctuary for the engineers, and there are quite a few of the "glyphs" strewn about each room, but that's as much as I know. There's a whole different theory on those, however, and I don't think they are related to the Inferno.

Yeah, the first circle is just where all the good non-Christians chill out for eternity. Basically Purgatory as Cadetak said. I think that fits pretty well for the general populace of New Mombasa. Just everyday people who got caught up in all of this.

oh so putting one religion foward is the way to go nice...

Break down, every single one of you.

Oddly enough, I bought the Divine Comedy about two weeks ago. I'll have to read it and play through the game again at the same time just to be sure. It all sound iffy, but then that would be a an aweful lot of coincidences in one game.

not surprising with all the biblical -blam!- bungie crams into they're canon.
