it is usually 2 bodyguards and one cheiftan, though the cheiftan is always there

the bodyguards may also be minors on easy, bodyguards or minors on normal, bodyguards on herioc, and i think captains on legendary

they were nicknamed helljumpers in 2001 or so, when one of those halo books came out. I think it was the fall of reach. Anyway, the nickname came to them before bungie thought of the idea of this game.

A tenuous connection, IMO... but somewhat interesting none the less.

Nice work.

i noticed this too. it was just like Dante's Inferno. Lot's of people have been making reference to it nowadays.

  • 04.06.2010 12:57 PM PDT

Well it bears about the same level of similarity to the Divine Comedy as Dantes Inferno did...

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah a work of art i just played a story without realising it maybe they will work a few more books into their games

Live Long and Consume Banana Oil, ya' Spoony Bards!

I didn't realize that either until I went onto Halopedia and I read about the references to Divine Comedy. Of course, I'd be lying if I said that I've actually read the story, which I haven't. But knowing this actually adds more depth to an already rich game story. But one thing I would like to know is...if Bungie was spending so much time working on both Reach and ODST at the same time, then were the similiarities and references actually just coincidences, or did the people at Bungie stay up longer than a healthy person should while thinking of story elements?

Satans three heads gnawing on each other reminds me of trying to bite your own ear. Just, awkward. But good reference, especially the 9 circles of hell. Explains the labeling of the Audio Logs.

my thoughts exactly, thank you for the great read. I love ODST, its never gotten the credit it deserves.

Yeah, the whole Vergil (Virgil) and how the final log ended in a frozen abyss tipped me off to the Inferno. But props to you for posting this!

Hey. Pull my dongle.

Cmon, just one time, you big baby!

Circle 1 (Limbo)

Here reside the unbaptized and the virtuous pagans, who, though not sinful, did not accept Christ. They are not punished in an active sense, but rather grieve only their separation from God, without hope of reconciliation.

This part of the poem is probably the worst for me.

So the rest of the poem is all butterflies and rainbows in comparison to that?

Actually, yes. Indians live in the hottest climate ever, added to the fact we're hairy. So being burnt in hell doesn't seem so bad.

I am looking to make my own cartoon someday, but in the mean time, I like to work on a side project that is a fan work of Dragon Ball. If you want to see it, than check out this link

If you have any questions about it, you can ask 'em in the forum or E-mail me.

hu, that is quite interesting. I respect the game more for discovering the connection between the references now. Thanks for posting this. It's funny, I thought a lot of the names of things seemed to be referencing something but I just didn't piece it together until now.

Juan Bernardo

Thats a pretty accurate point. I can't even begin to understand how much actual thought that took to realize that. I think that you've been approved by Bungie if this thread is still alive and on the right side of the screen. Good Find, Good Find!
P.S: Maybe the dead Elites represent those who defied god(covenant)and were sentenced to hell(killed). Which happens to be where you are hence the name Hell jumpers. Bungie said Hell so many times when it came to this game and we wern't even getting it.

I'm sorry, but being burnt alive and being in a hot climate is very, VERY different.

You are aware of the fact that burning there isn't just body, but soul? And, by the way, what about the 9th? Freezing...
