Maybe it's just how I heard but I think the second Circle(Lust) is shown when Kinsler...umm...tries to take Sadie somewhere private.

as I mentioned in the circle 2.

Yeah I see that now, my apologies. My reading abilities seem to deteriorate as the night goes on...which I think means its bed time.

Skillet was here and referred to himself in the third person.

Bumped for great justice.

Awesome theory, man.

OP, you said that the three heads chew on the traitors. I remember that the brute chieftan out side VIRGILS data center is shouting, "Come out you traitor".
Apologies if this has already been brought up.

It's no big deal, I forget they are poems as well.

I believe the start has some of the most obvious similarities to Inferno. Dante being gloomy on the verge of suicide...Rookie half dead on a failed mission. Dante's encounters the three beasts and has to evade them...Rookie runs into Brutes. Dante is in a dark wood at night while Rookie in a dark city at night("concrete jungle"). Virgil helps Dante and leads him through Hell...Virgil guides Rookie through signs, giving him the map, and showing him to the clues.

What made me realize the connection was the Audiophiles and when I first heard the name Vergil and the emmediate reference to Hell made on the first file. I found the Audiophile story to be dumb but then I noticed that they were trying to show each type of sin with the random characters they just through in.

I haven't read the Divine Comedy since school however I did do an article on it a year back I'm sure there are more direct references we can find...I think there were a few in the other Halo games as well if I remember correctly.

Ahh, I see what you mean. I was thinking of the beginning of the game as the little conversation in the ship before you drop. It makes sense, but almost feels like more of a coincidence than it being implied. If someone could confirm that the number of groups of covenant you run into before finding Vergil is 3 (I think it may change depending on difficulty levles), then this could very well be a connection too =)

Whether it's coincidence or on purpose, that's pretty awesome.

So if someone enslaved me and tried to rig me to blow up on certain occasions, that would make them my benefactor?

No, but it would make them your lord or ruler, and turning on them would be considered treason ;)

When all hope seems lost, and the ground is littered with the bodies of our fallen comrades, wait for the thunderous crash of my rifle, and I shall lead us to salvation.

OP, absolutely astounding find! My jaw became somewhat unhinged while reading your post. That's too many coincidences for me not to think you're correct, even if a few pieces end up not adding up properly. I'm still sitting here in shock, staring at my keyboard and thinking of what else I can possibly say. I guess the only thing left right now is:

THANK YOU!

ok i just played the last mission and there are a good deal more than nine there's actually 13, however if you subtract the last one where you get off, the first one with basicly no enemies, one in the middle with no enemies just phantoms on the side and the second to last one with the scarab but no enemies there are 9. However while playing i noticed after each doorway there were two doors with big white 9's painted on them on either side. hope this was helpfull :D

97% OF TEENS WON'T STAND UP FOR GOD. IF YOU'RE ONE OF THE 3% WHO WILL, PUT THIS IN YOUR SIG.
As comrades we have outlasted this storm known as life.
As allies we have fought through the fires across the depths of Hell. As friends we are victorious but as brothers we stand united. WE ARE RESURCTED!

Very nice job. This is well thought out.

In case it hasn't already been confirmed(I don't know I haven't read all of the posts) there are in fact three brutes ouside VERGILS door. I've beaten the game twice and Data Hive 3 times.

Anywho, this is very interesting. Though I have not read Dante's inferno, I do like the references. It makes Bungie seem very educated (which I am sure they are).

They should make the next one on the Oddesey!!!!

Thanks a lot. We've already had someone mention the three brutes, but thanks for the tip anyways!

That's awesome. I've just been looking for the number 42, some mice, or a pan galactic gargle blaster so I can reference my favorite book to ODST.

Cool post and interesting read. It's always fun to find hidden references to other works, intentional or not.

I like Six's death, the way the scene was made makes it look like Six is in a nightmare, powerless and tired to stop the unending waves of elites before she can't carry on anymore. Like trying to wriggle free from a spiderweb you just can't do it and end up tiring yourself in panic.

[SPOILERS]

The part about the Icy area in Data Hive doesn't make much sense to me. If you listen to the Audio-logs, Kinsler sets off the Argon Fire System which freezes and kills all of the people on the 9th level including the Doctor. The Brutes, who apparently represent Satan chewing, do not have any correlation to the frozen level, even though Satan beating his wings is freezing the area.

If anything, I'd say Kinsler would seem to be representing Satan.

[/SPOILERS]
