I love you.

Dante's Inferno was a masterpiece and one of my favorite works I have read, however confusing it was to understand the old English of the translation.

I enjoyed reading this post much more than I have any other post in a long time.

"Don't you know? Spartans never die."

Just a major relation I know of that no one else has mentioned yet. Virgil is Dante's guide through Hell, but he is also a Pagan, meaning he can only accompany Dante as far as the exit to Hell, then he must return to the first circle.

In audiolog 30, Sadie attempts to leave the train station, but is stopped by Vergil, who convinces her that she cannot save him and must go on. Sadie then boards the train, leaving the "Hell" of New Mombasa, and heading to the heaven of anywhere else.

Of course there may also be references in the destinations of the train, Nairobi Road being the end of the line, Heaven being the final paradise. Or mabye it's in the direction, like the train faces toward Jerusalem (example).

Ooh, very nice! I'd been thinking about that just earlier, that both Sadie and the Rookie played the part of Dante to some extent. Still haven't gotta all the logs yet though, haha.

When all hope seems lost, and the ground is littered with the bodies of our fallen comrades, wait for the thunderous crash of my rifle, and I shall lead us to salvation.

Shameless bump so others can enjoy this level of awesomeness.

Romeo also says: "we went through hell for this?"

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

Nothing is ever simple..congrats, though.

What references will we see in the future, I wonder..

What a waste....

Wow... I played a poem that was a few centuries old...

LOL

Also, another reference: you know how OP said each was increasingly difficult? After every flashback, the enemies the Phantom drops become more numerous and dangerous.

Also, just a small tidbit, but the Superintendent does, in many ways, have multiple faces, 3 main ones really.

I don't believe in magic, but I DO believe in bones.

Finding out that my favorite game series referenced my favorite epic poem, and making people actually want to READ said poem... My mission is complete =P

Also, does anyone know the best way to go about getting this info to Halopedia or some other Halo-ish websites? I'd like to get the info out there!

isnt the rookie just getting back from new Jerusalem? and isnt the main character from dantes inferno a soldier in the crusades? ie fighting in Jerusalem?

Not sure about the Rookie coming back from New Jerusalem, but the main character in Dante's Divine Comedy is Dante himself. He was a poet, not a solider. That's how he's depicted in the new game coming out involving the Inferno, though.

This information is true, regarding the Jerusalem reference with the Rookie. I will look for the official link and get back to you...

my bad im ust hav been thinking about the game's main character

Drink up baby, stay up all night.
With the things you could do, you won't but you might.
The potential you'll be, but you'll never see.
The promises you'll only make.

-Spoilers-

When getting the 30th audiolog, the cop that you saved won't get killed by Drones, he'll live and drop into the 9th level. He goes into a room and asks you to wait outside, inside the room is the final audiolog. Once you've retrieved it, you will find that the cop is a corrupt cop that's working for Kinsler(sp?), and he will shoot you after mumbling "Sorry friend, but you know too much.".

Just saying, an act of betrayl. >_>.

-Spoilers-

Absolutely brilliant. Bungie's creativity never ceases to amaze me. Good find and now that you brought it up i remember everything from the inferno... been a while since i read it. Toast to you my friend. People who haven't read this need to.

I don't believe in magic, but I DO believe in bones.

I thought I'd dig up the thread where I posted my initial reactions on the analysis of the Prepare To Drop teaser so long ago.

I dunno if anyone has seen screencaps, or caught it themselves, but at one point the SI activated something called "Subroutine 'Virgil'."

In Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy," Virgil was a roman poet who guided Dante through Hell and Purgatory. If the SI is going to be guiding our new ODST Hero, that seems to fit perfectly. And since Dante was guided through Hell, I can only assume the kinds of things the ODST will go through.

Sooooooooo stoked =D

Link

I'm actually really glad I'd forgotten that, it wouldn't have been such a shocker had I been anticipating it all this time, still! Hooray for poor memory =P

Wait doesn't Dante go through hell for his lover? If so DARE may be a possibility?

SPOILERS

Someone mentioned this but at the Iced area on data hive if you have collected all the audio logs the police guy comes down with you and you find out he is one of Kinslers men sent to check the doctor is dead. He then turns on you for seeing the body of the doctor and you must kill him. Once he is dead Virgil says "Crime doesn't pay" and earlier he says "Hitchhikers may be escaping convicts" because he follows you and he managed to not get killed I'm guessing he is an escaping convict.

SPOILER OVER

I was guessing the events mentioned in the spoilers may link in with Dante's Inferno although I haven't read it there may be someone who tries to escape with Dante. I'm not sure just thought more info would be helpful.

This would go to show that not only do the Rookie and Sadie have some likeness to Dantes journey, but so does Eddie Buck. Good find.
