I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Now we all understand that balance in Multiplayer is important, but just now please look beyond the gameplay. This is about the Canon of the Halo franchise, and is all about the weapon balance in the Campaign of Reach.
Throughout all the Halo games we have finally come to rely primarily on one single weapon, the Battle Rifle, to be the most reliable means of putting down our enemies in both Campaign AND Multiplayer. Some players still love the BR, others hate it.
ODST, the newest Halo experience, finally removed the Battle Rifle, forcing players to use the much less effective M6D SOCOM Magnum. This gun did slim to NO shield damage, and was only effective for headshots on shieldless foes. Again some players cried "You can't remove the BR!", while others praised this chance to play a game strategically, using all weapons at your disposal.
This, to me, captured the gameplay feel of Halo CE very effectively, a game we can almost all say had the best Campaign thus far. In my eyes ODST surpassed both Halo 2, Halo Wars, and Halo 3 and took it's place right next to CE in the list of best Halo Games released. And all because of the fact that ONE weapon that made the game TOO EASY was removed?
As well, other weapons, such as the Covenant Carbine, Needler, Brute Plasma Rifle, SMG, Sniper, Laser, and Rockets ALL became infinitely more useful during the game. Dividing the weapons and tasking your teammates to perform specific actions with their weapons was fun. It was the combined effort that lead your team to victory, not just 4 people hopping around with one weapon.
But it still isn't enough.
Reading the books you discover the true power of each individual weapon. Covenant plasma weaponry is truly scary, putting down Spartans in a matter of 2-3 shots, while ARs and BRs deflect almost uselessly on the Covenant's shields.
As you can see, I want a HARDER GAME. I want to feel like messing up just once will do me in. I want enemy Elites to laugh as they rain hell on me with their plasma rifles, one shot draining my shields and causing my character to yell in pain, a second, and the screaming continues, louder, more intense. And with the 3rd, my screen fades to black, the death cam showing my corpse, melted armor and scorched flesh show through the burned hole in my armor.
What this means, is REALISTIC CAMPAIGN WEAPON BALANCE.
For Multiplayer, of course, weapons will be balanced to be as fair as can be. But in Campaign, the Battle Rifle should recieve a nurf, and the Assault Rifle, SMG, Rockets, Sniper they all can remain at their weak power. But Covenant weapons, the Needler, Carbine, Plasma, Beam, Fuel Rod, they should all be more dangerous than ever before, and in your own hands they should be strong. You should WANT to recover plasma weapons from dead bodies, they should be more effective.
So my question to you all, is should the Campaign weapon balance reflect the books. Should UNSC weapons seem primitive, while Covenant weapons kill faster, and are stronger, than ever before?
