It seems a lot of people are debating how to solve the problem of quitting in matchmaking. Stricter EXP penalties, a temporary ban, etc. The thing is, I think people are going about this all wrong. Here's what I propose:

Social: Drop-in, drop-out matches, like Call of Duty 4, or Team Fortress 2. You would be sent into a game in progress and placed on the team with fewer players. This would make quitting early a non-issue, and make the time to get into a game much shorter, as you wouldn't need to wait to begin an entirely ne one.
There could be bonuses, like extra EXP, or a medal, for playing an entire game without quitting, to encouraging people to stay, without absolutely forcing them to play a map or gametype they hate.

Ranked: Much stricter. No drop-in, drop-out. Much more similar to Halo 3's current matchmaking system. At the very least, a penalty of 1 to 5 EXP points, and perhaps a 5 to 15 minute ban from ranked matchmaking. This would force people to stay in ranked games, to avoid ruining the experience for others, while keeping the game consistent and fair.
This would, however, require the ranked playlists to be managed and updated much more than they currently are. No offense to Shishka, but it shouldn't take three weeks to remove two fusion cores from Valhalla. Because players would be stuck in their games, keeping them content and satisifed would be much more important. Maybe even change the gametypes according to skill levels. Low ranks would mostly get AR (or comparable Reach weapon) starts, and as you improved your play, BR (or comparable Reach weapon) starts would become more common.

What do you think? Suggestions? Would this make the multiplayer experience more satisfying?

Any ideas on what could be done instead of a temporary ban to stop people from quitting ranked games?

How about going in with a full team? I almost never go into ranked matches without a full team.

No. Drop-in/drop-out is one of the things I hate most about CoD Matchmaking.

And I don't think that they would make social and ranked that different.

temporary bans would turn off a lot of people because you do quit for some reason, or sometimes you get kicked out. Banning people temporarily would cause them to either A. play a different game or B. Turn off their xbox

i gotta say it is better than having bots on your team

but the ban idea is pretty harsh

NO!!! Cause every single negitive exp I have is from live freaking out and disconnecting me. Heck the double exp weekend before odst lauch (rocket race weekend) I lost more exp in the last hour than I gained. Then come back and see that my exp went from 50 in rocket race to 48. So sorry, as long as Bungie games are on xbox live, no stiffer penelties until microsoft actually makes software that works correctly.

Yeah, I know that wouldn't be the best thing to do. I'm not really sure what should be done for quitting ranked games, to be honest. Anyone have any suggestions?

Oh, and I just realized that Catch Eisley has a thread on the same topic on the front page. D'oh!

remove quit option
That doesn't really do much, though. If you really don't want to play 3v3 Valhalla CTF with AR starts, you'll just quit to the dashboard. I really think there needs to be more of a distinction between ranked an social games. Right now, they're the same exact thing, only social has invisible TrueSkill. A drop-in, drop-out system based on matchmaking type would give the player more freedom in what gametypes they play, without necessarily penalizing any player involved too much.

It isn't our shiznit anymore.

Along with removing the quit game option, also remove the return to dashboard and sign out button. Also, make it so the Xbox turns into a bomb while you are playing a game and the eject or power off button are the detonation buttons and the only way to diffuse the bomb is to play the game. Problem solved.

Next?

Real Funny.

But seriously, there has to be a better way to improve the quitting situation than to simply make it impossible/extremely inconvenient. If people want to quit, they will.

Besides, with your bomb example, I'd personally rather die than play some of the gametypes currently in matchmaking.
