It seems a lot of people are debating how to solve the problem of quitting in matchmaking. Stricter EXP penalties, a temporary ban, etc. The thing is, I think people are going about this all wrong. Here's what I propose:
Social: Drop-in, drop-out matches, like Call of Duty 4, or Team Fortress 2. You would be sent into a game in progress and placed on the team with fewer players. This would make quitting early a non-issue, and make the time to get into a game much shorter, as you wouldn't need to wait to begin an entirely ne one.
There could be bonuses, like extra EXP, or a medal, for playing an entire game without quitting, to encouraging people to stay, without absolutely forcing them to play a map or gametype they hate.
Ranked: Much stricter. No drop-in, drop-out. Much more similar to Halo 3's current matchmaking system. At the very least, a penalty of 1 to 5 EXP points, and perhaps a 5 to 15 minute ban from ranked matchmaking. This would force people to stay in ranked games, to avoid ruining the experience for others, while keeping the game consistent and fair.
This would, however, require the ranked playlists to be managed and updated much more than they currently are. No offense to Shishka, but it shouldn't take three weeks to remove two fusion cores from Valhalla. Because players would be stuck in their games, keeping them content and satisifed would be much more important. Maybe even change the gametypes according to skill levels. Low ranks would mostly get AR (or comparable Reach weapon) starts, and as you improved your play, BR (or comparable Reach weapon) starts would become more common.
What do you think? Suggestions? Would this make the multiplayer experience more satisfying?
Any ideas on what could be done instead of a temporary ban to stop people from quitting ranked games?
