the shotguns one hit kill range in halo 3 is way to short.

case and point: http://www.bungie.net/Online/Halo3UserContentDetails.aspx?h3f ileid=95612786

please copy and paste that link to your address bar.

it shows me (blue elite) with a shotgun shooting the red spartan. i know i blasted the red spartan in the head. i saw the replay of it in theatre. yet the the red spartan still survives. i dont know about you but that should be more than close enough to get a one hit kill.

thats why i think the shotguns one hit kill range should be increased for halo: reach. if bungie could increase the shotguns range to something like the length of yellow grav lift room on guardian that would be great. however, i could see this could make the shotgun horribly imbalanced which is why im all for balancing it. just give it some range that makes it useful other than for camping.

i understand that buckshot deviates from each other. but at that range and even a little more the buckshot should not spread that much. if a battle rifle with its 12 little, wimpy bullets can kill a guy wearing shielded mjolnir armor, than a futuristic, 8 gauge shotgun spewing out several large, jagged chunks of scrap titanium should be more than enough to kill if with in range. but range is the problem, its to short. the shotgun needs to work as the king of short range weapons and not as a camping noob canon. just as long as a guy who carefully attacks with dual smg's or something can take down the king.

please dont flame or troll. these are my oppinions. if you disagree with them then post an intelligent response as to why and if you do agree the support what i have said, thanks!

Awesome isn’t just a word. Awesome is a way of life. Awesome is a way of war. Teamwork matters the most. Lone Wolves jeopardize the missions. Teamwork is key. Resistance is futile. The covenant fear us, not the other way around. We don’t fight for Earth. We don’t fight for Reach. We fight for the good of mankind because we are A.W.E.S.O.M.E. also, if you shot HIS HEAD, then here's your problem.
his head is smaller than your whole body that he probably shot instead... so he did more damage than you did.

/// Remember Reach.
/// Remember Bungie.

That would be too cheap like in Combat Evovled.
You could kill zombies way faster and you wouldn't get infected as fast.

GRAVITY CAT NOT AMUSED
Process initiated : Attempting to give a damn

Process stopping : Unable to give a damn, stopping

Process failed : Damn not given

HELL NO!

Maybe the shotgun does need to be more accurate with less spray, but increase the one hit distance? Madness!

I liked the shotgun in combat evolved, as it was very effective against aircraft, but yes this would make the shotgun an even more "cheaper" weapon in Halo 3 or Halo:Reach. Its infuriating in Halo 3 to be so close to a person with a shotgun, yet the shot doesn't kill them, and you end up dying. On the other hand though, its infuriating to be the one NOT with the shotty, getting killed by the "shotty noob" every time you walk around a corner. So.... idk Bungie.

Screenshot

I gotta say, I do think the shotty's range isn't that good, but your screenshot isn't a very good example of this. First, as already mentioned, you shot his head, a big no-no, second, you were actually pretty far away. I really wouldn't expect you t get that kill.

sorry if the link didnt work. i dont know how to make it whre you just click it. if your really interested then you could click on my profile and look at the first two pictures i have.

regardless if i shot the head, i know from memory as well as a video replay that i hit the red spartan. lag being a minimal factor.

increasing the range of the shotgun could make it a really cheap weapon. but thats again why im for balancing it out if it has a longer range.

also having a longer one hit kill range would be good for at least for infection in match making. 13 players means lag and the chances there will be several zombies all going for the last man standing. combine that with the speed of the sword lunge and misjuding the one hit kill range of the shotgun can mean a round over or game over.

look, I'll rephrase it.

his head is like... as big as an apple.
your torso is as big as a car.

if you shoot an apple with a shotgun, you'll put less bullets than you would if you shot a car.
you did less damage because of this. he did more damage, he killed you.

i dont get how hitting the head or body is any different when using the shotgun. the only weapons that deal damage differently to the head in the game are the pistol, battle rifle, and sniper rifle, and there covenant counter parts.

I don't think that the range should be increased. From personal experiences, it would make matchmaking alot..eh, cheaper. People would be like making the Sniper Rifle a one-hit kill. Just my opinion on the topic.

A shotgun makes buckshot spread out over a area; hence, when you fire at the head, less buckshot actually hits to cause damage.

Yano. Really, NO! I am all for shotgun, but I still think the range is somewhat absurd. People can still kill you form a relativily far distance. I think that sucks sometimes.

No, people would camp and use the cheap shotgun even more. To be honest I would be happy if it was removed all together.

  • 09.29.2009 7:02 PM PDT

Actually I think its far enough in Halo 3, on close quarter maps, you can rack up plenty of kills with it.

number 2 friends get dominated

this idea may be one of the worst i have heard.
making the range across the gold lift a one hit kill? that is absolutely absurd.
that gun would rule the game, it would be better than the br. like its not even funny. the distance is fine for it now. they nerfed it enough that it does take some ability to use it but didnt make it impossible to do. and your screenshot...that also is very far away. if you want a sniper shotgun go to cod

  • 09.29.2009 7:34 PM PDT

close quarters like guardian? yeah you could rack up some kills if you take the enemy by suprise or if there noobs. but killing the guy across the room with the shotgun? you might but youll loose your shields to his br and then get killed by another guy who picks up your shotgun and kills you later on with it while hes camping.

whats up with the two shotguns on the pitt? you can only use the on 10% of the map (sword room.) use it out of there and youll get killed by the br in no time

  • 09.29.2009 7:34 PM PDT

not if they balance it. if bungie made a double barreled shotgun that you had to do a slow reload after every two shots but gave it longer range that would be great.

the distance in the screenshot very far away? its a couple of feet.

  • 09.29.2009 7:39 PM PDT

OMG I can't even see the logic in this. Increasing range on the shotty would be absurd! Its a close proximity weapon therefore it has a exceptionally short range. When you want more range you switch your freakin weapon. Lastly, dont use covenant...

Depends.

  • 09.29.2009 7:47 PM PDT

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

No, it needs only a longer range and slightly more accuracy.

  • 09.29.2009 7:50 PM PDT

im not asking for a shotgun with sniper capabilties. theres already a weapon like that called the sniper rifle. im asking for a longer range with in the realms of short range to make it decent.

  • 09.29.2009 7:51 PM PDT

It doesnt make sense on how close you have to be with the shotgun to get a single shot kill but the reason for this is to balance it. If its one hit kill distance was any greater, the weapon would be too powerful. Then guess what? it will be BR topics all over again.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Just increase the number of pellets to like 25.
