Alright, so the general consensus seems to be that we want large air fights in Reach. Here is a way this could be implemented with squads/coop play.

F99 WOMBAT:
In atmosphere jet. Used for hit+run tactics. Weapons could be large machine guns for close combat protection, and missiles for hitting ground targets (or air).

LONGSWORD:
Fighter for space battles. Used in teams, mainly to defend objectives. Turrets and missiles, optimized for space. Possibly mines, but only for certain missions.

HORNET:
Comes in either Transport (extra seats, but only machine guns) or Standard (missiles and machine guns, but with regular seats). Used for taking out ground targets while transporting infantry. Possibly could carry a Mongoose using winch on back.

HARVEST HORNET:
Hornet with two pulldown Gauss Sniper Rifles. Maybe missiles for a cool, kick ass mission (like the Scorpion run on the Ark), but not availible on other missions.

SHORTSWORD:
Used for in/out-atmosphere support. Standard loadout would be Carpet Bombs (ground), Nukes (both), and Anvil/Archer missile pods (space). Only for quick, short range attacks. Must return to base/ship for more ammo. Very speedy, but weak.

HAWK:
Upgraded Standard Hornet. Loses seats, winch, and missiles, but gains speed and lasers. Slightly more powerful, but not by much. Cooldown time on lasers.

VULTURE:
Scorpion in the sky. Auto-Turrets and Missile Pods. Can launch a large payload of missiles, but must either cooldown or return to base for more. Slow but powerful.

PELICAN:
Transport. Can carry infantry/vehicles. One large machine gun on front, one Missile Pod on each side. Powerful, but slow and can't take very much damage.

I loathe to include Halo Wars stuff here, but it would round out the roster. Probably won't be in Reach, but it would be cool to pilot all of these differing air vehicles. IF there is a Covenant campaign, it would have to be Seraphs, Banshees, Phantoms, Spirits, and Vampires.

COVENANT:

SERAPHS:
Weak fighter. Shielded, but a few direct hits from a rocket launcher can rock the craft. Plasma Cannons and Plasma bombs.

BANSHEES:
Standard Shee. Fuel Rod Gun and Plasma Cannons. Boosting and Tricks.

PHANTOMS:
Main Transport. Main Cannon and two operable side cannons. Possibly cloaking for stealth, but if so, less damage can be taken.

SPIRITS:
Can hold two/three Ghosts, 8 infantry or a Wraith Tank. Speedy, but vulnerable. Shade Turret for defense.

VAMPIRES:
Heavy Needler and light Plasma Cannons. Superb against Ground and Air, but very weak.
