I for one would love too see a more darker, gritty Halo universe as appose to these bright colours and tongue in cheak humor spoutted out by the marines halo just feels like your playing a kids cartoon i think Reach should bring out the darker side of the story because lets face it if halo was "real" it would look nothing like or feel how it is portrayed in Halo:CE, Halo 2/3, Halo Wars i just feel that this style they have gone for has realy let the "franchise" down and could of potentialy been one of the greatest games had Bungie/Microsoft not tried to maximise profits by making it available to all age ranges instead sacrifised the humor and bright graphics for Raw brutality and the horror's of war instead of "oMgz MC iS LeEt, StFu" Thoughts?

i think it would be cooler if they spent a while on the graphics but i dont think it should be more gory if u want that go watch a war movie or the watch men[ that is one of the most goryest films ever]. i think it is wise to apeal to all age groups as for 1 they get more money and two younger people wont get the enjoyment of playing it

I can see were your coming from its only wise to appeal to more age groups if you care about your profit margine. And its not gore that bothers me ok it would be cool too see gore in haloe but its not a major issue just a more realistic feel to the game would be nice because it feels like im playing power rangers but with guns

gritty with the right amount of humor and cartoonyness. halo doesnt need to have realistic graphics (realistic graphics dont mean good graphics, take call of duty 4, it as realistic graphics but its not a pretty game.) halo needs to have a goods art style. thats what makes it unique and different.

  • 09.30.2009 6:48 AM PDT

I don't even know.

I wouldn't mind a dark Halo game. For what ever reason, I really enjoy super-dark movies. Don't see why I wouldn't like a Halo game to be as such.

Yeah halo does have its own style but how about making it a draker more girtty game as oppose to bright colours. And as far as cartoonyness goes it can be done right take alot of Japanese anime the mature stuff is very dark and gritty but a cartoon.

oh i wouldnt say cod 4 isnt pretty have u played the level charlie dont surf that looks sick anyway
yeah it would be cool if it was more realistic like u had more allies that died cause its kinda stupid one squad pretty much surviving about a thousand encounters with the covenant when in the books humans pretty much always lose

also this is a little off topic but the covie weapons need to be wa stronger cause human weapons own them whears in the books covie weapons are way mor powerful

The UNSC tends to win in ground fights, as far as i've been told (Have yet to read the books, just ordered them.). In space is where they get crushed. I think reach could be the game where they do something alot of Halo players have been wanting. Massive Combat, where you coul dhave 20-30 marines with you fighitng, instead of 3-5 like in the other games.

I know personally, i would love to have a huge group of marines fighting against the covenant in a battle feild or a base or something. Kinda like the trailer for Halo Wars when they had all the tanks, warthogs, marines, and spartans charging, that would be amazing to play in.

that is what i want exactly it would be so cool to hmassive battles. it would have been so cool if halo wars was just like the trailer and was an fps

ive played charlie dont surf a couple of times. its a fun level. but i dont think its beautiful. its just a bunch of dingy, brown building on the ground.

i was thinking that halo should have the grittiness of some hi quality anime the other day but combine that with a g.i. joe art style

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I would rather them up the difficulty of the game and weapon balance to a more Halo Book realism level before bothering with Graphics, which dont and NEVER mattered IMO.

Not a game were its feels like a saturday morning cartoon

So what if Bungie didn't want to focus on what comes out of dead corpses? They obviously care more about the gameplay and storyline more than the aforementioned. ODST was more dark for you. Go play that.

This game needs to be much darker.

Humanity got their arses handed to them at Reach. That needs to be reflected in the story.

Exactly now im going to mention COD here so please dont cry about it. what COD 5 world at war did for ww2 games hopefully Halo:Reach will do for the halo series COD 5 brought the true horror of war to light as oppose to "YEEEEEEHAH killing -blam!- scum" instead it was "holy crap people are dying every were the battle field looks more like hell than earth will i even survive the next minute never mind the war" and i think the halo series would benefit from this as people could realy engage them self with in the game you know more imersive.

"The strength of the pack is the wolf, the strength of the wolf is the pack."

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me..."

ODST for life

It is pretty obvious that most of the forum community wants future Halo titles to be much darker and grittier (such a funny word). I just don't know how far Bungie is willing to take their games into the dark side.

Joe Staten has been quoted many times (along with other Bungie employees) about how they pride themselves in making games that everyone can enjoy. They even go so far as to say fathers would feel comfortable reaching for a Halo title to play with his underaged son. They always have and probably always will keep in mind that younger audiences will play their games and will keep the mature, darker and grittier feel to a minimum.

Bungie does listen to the community and ODST is a good example of a darker and grittier style of Halo. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Bungie making Reach a much more mature title since that is what the community has been clamoring for years but I guess we will just have to wait and see how far they are willing to go.

Personally I hope they finally take advantage of the M rating their games receive and give us something more mature and emotional. ODST was a nice change but still had many moments where the dark and serious feeling was lost among cheesy dialogue or jokes. Those funny Halo moments are always good but Bungie can sometimes get a bit carried away with the puns and funnies.

Halo CE was the darkest and grittyest game to date in the Halo series. The Flood were depicted almost disturbingly, and it was awesome.

Actually, come to think of it, Halo 2 did a pretty good job on a couple levels you played as the Arbiter. Sacred Icon and Quarantine Zone really brought the Flood threat into light.

You sir deserve a medal i think thats the one thing i missed out Emotion you cant have "emotion" if every thing looks bright and the jokes and puns are light hearted hopefully bungie will listen can only dream though.

Well your right the flood do give it abit more of a sinster feel almost try to bring a horror element to the game but it wasnt executed very well i wasnt scared of the flood i just thought they were well pathetic.

It would be nice to have levels that would actually creep you out. Cortana would be a decent example, that level creeped some people out, not just because the atmosphere, but because of all the enemies that come out of no where.
