No matter how many seals are killed by sharks a year, it never seems to be enough :D

Part.6 The Ring

After hours of fighting his way around the Covenant ship, James kicked the blast doors of the hangar open. What he saw inside was utter chaos. Plasma splashed against the walls. Covenant bodies littered the ground. They were fighting something, strange. Their enemy was crawling everywhere. They were on the walls, the ceiling, and all over the alien soldiers.

The Spartan spotted a drop ship. He counted to three, then sprinted. The strange creatures seemed to be a sac filled with a watery fluid. They had barbed tentacles, and menacing eyes. They were surprisingly fragile. One attempted to jump onto James, but it merely popped when it hit his shields. He figured they were only a threat to the unprotected Grunts and Jackals in the area. Then his shield alarm blared in his helmet.

James didn't notice that masses of them were attempting to penetrate his energy barrier. If they penetrated it, god knows what they would do to the Spartan. Luckily, he made it into the drop ship before he could find out. The soldier powered up the Phantom, and exited the Covenant vessel. He made the mistake of relaxing, and letting his guard down, so when the green mutilated beast grabbed him from behind, he was defenseless.

The creature was strangling James against his chair. He grabbed at its arms, but it was amazingly strong. Then he threw a blind punch behind him. It came into contact with something, rotten. When he brought his hand back, it was covered in a green fluid. James swiftly turned to face his enemy. It lay on the ground with a hole punched into its chest. Just to make sure it was down, the Spartan stomped its head with the one ton suit of armor he wore.

James slumped back into the pilot's seat, which he fit in, but it was uncomfortable due to it being designed specifically for Elites. He glared into space, and caught site of something strange. In the distance, there seemed to be some sort ofring. The Spartan pushed the engine to maximum speed. The ring rapidly grew in size as he approached it. The exterior was a gray metal, but the inside seemed to be normal terrain. Then, there it was.

The Pillar of Autumn fell towards the structure. Was Captain Keys actually trying to land it? That didn't matter. If James could Rendezvous with Keys, he had a chance of surviving. The Spartan dove into the Ring's atmosphere. Flames enveloped his Phantom as it penetrated the sky. A red light flashed inside of the cockpit. The hull was breaking. Strips of purple metal began to tear off the outside of his ship. Tubes and lines were severed. The engine was torn apart, and the frame was becoming visible from the outside.

James made a handhold on the wall. The Phantom was heading for water, but that didn't matter. At this speed, it would be like hitting concrete. He had to bail. James attempted to get out of his seat, but the strange shape of the chair had forced him to put his legs in an odd position, causing his foot to get jammed in a crevice. "Damn it!"

There was nothing James could do but wait, and cross his fingers. The Spartan pumped his hydrostatic gel level up to ten. He felt the most excruciating pain he had ever experienced. It felt like a thousand knives had just cut into him, but he had to tough it out. Without the gel, he would most certainly die.

The water came closer and closer. All that remained of the Phantom was its skeletal structure, and a few pieces of plating here and there. The nose was still intact, which meant it would take the blunt of the impact. James had ten seconds until impact. Then five, four, three, two, o-

*********

"Chief! Chief can you hear me!?" Cortana shouted. Master Chief stumbled out of the escape pod he had ridden down on. Dead marines were scattered everywhere. The crash was too much for their frail bodies to handle. At least he had his AI with him. She was good company, at least to John she was.

117 had to move. The Covenant would surely be checking each pod for survivors. The chief looked up, and around, examining the ring he stood on. A massive ocean lay before him. The pod was luck that it didn't hit the cliff wall and plummet down into the sea. The Spartan then noticed that one of the Covenant Phantoms wasn't as lucky. He zoomed in with his visor. The aircraft was shredded, and was about to do a nose dive. The Chief did a mocking salute as it smashed into the ocean, and was obliterated.

Part.7 Sliver of Home.

When James awoke, he was lying face down in the sand. A mix of hydrostatic gel and blood stained the fine grains. His helmet was dented, and static forced him to turn off its visor's display system.

James stood, and felt excruciating pain in his ribs. He saw a gash that had torn the side of his MJOLNR armor. Blue gel oozed out of the cut. "Uh oh." The Spartan murmured to himself. He looked up into the sky, and examined the ring he stood upon. It was a shocking and beautiful sight. It looked like someone had taken a peeler to Earth, and cut off a thin sliver of its surface. Behind him was a large cliff. James didn't see any other way to get off of the beach, so he began to climb.

After a few close calls, James reached the top. An escape pod lay in the dirt in front of him. Looks like not everyone was up for going down with the ship. James smirked, but the smile quickly disappeared when he saw his fellow soldiers dead in the grass. Blood wet the thin blades. One coughed. He was
still alive. James ran to him, and kneeled down.

The soldier stared at James' visor through jaded eyes, "Are you a Spartan?" The soldier barely managed to get the words out of his mouth.

"Yes, I am."

"Th-then you can save me, right?"

James paused for a moment, "Yeah, I can." The Marine had one hand over a hole in his abdomen. Next to him lay a sharp piece of the escape pod. Blood dripped from the razor sharp tip where it had broken free from its rightful place, and pierced the soldier. He was a goner, but there was no reason to tell him that.

"Cool, b-because, when I get home, I'm guna propose to my girl." The soldier coughed, sending a light spray of blood into the air.

James removed his helmet. He was in a dangerous place, no doubt. But the Spartan could tell the Marine needed to see a human face. "What's her name?" It was difficult for James to carry out this conversation, but he wanted to ease the doomed man out of his life. He felt like a liar, pretending to be interested in something that meant nothing to him, but in a way, it did.

"Her name's Carla." The Marine's voice grew dim and raspy, "I'm guna take her down to the beach. That's where I'll propose. I already got the ring, too. Do you wana s-see a picture of her?"

"Sure." James said. It was barely a whisper.

The dying soldier reached into his fatigue's pocket, and pulled out a small photograph of his love. "Here"

He held it up to James. The girl had light brown hair, and a slender frame. Her white sweater shirt made her shine like an angel in sun. The Spartan smiled, "You got a beauty there buddy."

"Y-yeah, I do..." The Marine went limp, his eyes staring into the sky. James gently closed them, then stood.

James put his helmet back on, but it didn't let out its usual hiss of an airlock. The Spartan had almost forgotten that it was breached. He saw a bridge leading from his plateau to the main land. He walked towards it, then stopped. Could it be?

James knelt down, and peered at a boot print in the dirt. It was unmistakable. That was the boot of MJOLNR battle armor.

The Hybrid a FanFic by Tehface

"Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame. They will lead you to war, and perhaps, to victory."

Pretty nice! I had almost forgotten this one. Just one thing.

You said the marine pulled out a picture of his wife.
But he hasn't proposed yet. =P
Still, a great story.

Part.8 Fall with Honor

James crossed the bridge, and ran through the grass at a steady pace. When he reached the top of a hill, he spotted a construct. It was firing beams of blue upwards into the sky, towards the other side of the ring. He would have to think about that later. For now, he had to find his fellow Spartan.

James approached the construct to find bodies littered around the place. Marines, the Pillar of Autumn's crew, and Covenant were strewn on the ground. The Spartan climbed to the roof of the building. It seemed like nobody had survived the fight. Either that or they hauled ass once they won. The sound of phantoms shot through the air. They were coming in fast.

James hid behind the construct's wall on the roof. He soon noticed that was futile, because the enemy was approaching from all sides. They must have thought that the Marines were still here. This was good, but bad at the same time. The humans had won the fight, but now James was about to be mobbed. If he could get to the highest possible ground...the beam launcher.

The Spartan climbed on top of the launching pad. His face went pale when he remembered that the beam launched every twenty seconds. Before he could move, it fired off, encompassing half of his body.

Surprisingly, it did nothing. That was good. It might even confuse the Covenant, and give the Spartan a sudden element of surprise. The Phantoms landed, and troops flooded onto the roof. They were everywhere.

James crouched behind one of the four prongs on the beam launching pad. He was a Spartan, yes, but even he had limits. There was nothing else he could do. If he ran, he would surely be shot before he could escape.

James had to fight. He pulled the pin on three grenades, and tossed them in different directions. Three explosions sounded off, and James exited cover. He fired down upon the Covenant, dropping the unshielded Elites.

More charged onto the roof when the beam shot off. The aliens stopped, wondering if he was dead. That's when James jumped off of the pad, and landed directly on top of a red armored Elite. There was a loud series of cracks as every bone in the creatures body broke.

The enemies close to him received death by rifle butt. A grunt managed to stick his assault rifle with a plasma grenade. James tossed it into a crowd of Covenant, slaughtering them as it detonated.

Right when the Spartan thought he had killed every last one of them, a black armored Elite walked slowly up the ramp on to the roof. His energy sword activated with a menacing hiss. "This is your end, Demon."

James grinned behind his visor, "I don't think so." They charged each other, and James ducked under the Elites first sword slash. It spun to lung him in the chest, but James grabbed its arm. The Spartan received a powerful blow to the front of his helmet, dazing him and causing him to stumble back. The Elite used this moment to execute a swift slash.

The Spartan moved back just in time, but the energy blade sliced through the front part of his chest piece. The titanium smoldered, and let off smoke into the air. The force that the alien had used caused him to be momentarily disabled.

James scissor kicked the Covenant soldier the side of its head. Amazingly, its neck didn't snap. Its shields drained completely. "That all you got split lip?" The Elite roared, and ran forward with incredible speed.

This caught James completely off guard, letting the alien slam him into a wall, and run its energy blade into his abdomen.

The Spartan let out a grunt, and the Elite put an iron grip around his throat, "Now, pay for your sins Demon!"
F
ive shots rang through the air. The Elite stumbled, and fell backwards. James' magnum was spattered with purple blood. He had pressed it against the Elite's body as it delivered its final words.

The Spartan deactivated the energy blade, and dropped to the floor. His mirrored visor reflected the face of the dying Covenant warrior beside him. "You fight with bravery and valor, Spartan, for that, I commend you. We shall die together...with...honor." James' vision blurred, then, everything was black.

Part.9 The Parasite

When James awoke, he was on a metal table. He felt like he was being sliced, cut, and stitched. Once his vision became clear, he realized that was exactly what was happening. Two humans wearing blood spattered smocks and blue masks stood over him. They had nervous faces, and their foreheads were tightened. "Damn it!" One shouted as blood spurted into the air.

James felt an excruciating pain in his abdomen. "He's awake!" One of the doctors dug a needle into the Spartan's arm, and he blacked out.

James gained consciousness again, and saw that he was in a cot. The bed was in some sort of a cave. Lights had been drilled into the roof. A marine leaned against the dry, orange rock wall. He turned his head to the Spartan as he gnawed on his candy bar, "Hey." His voice came out muffled through chocolate and peanuts.

James grunted as he attempted to sit up, but fell back down. "Where am I?"

"Well, I don't really know. This here is Delta Company's base. It's really just a cave with flashlights screwed to its roof."

"Classy." James replied in a gruff voice, "Do you have any idea when I will be combat effective?"

The Marine finally swallowed his mouthful of chocolate, "Eh, not for a while. You got stuck pretty bad. Lucky we found you in time."

"Is there a food supply around here?"

The leather neck pulled a second candy bar out of his olive drab pocket, and waved it around. James shook his head, knowing it wasn't a healthy thing to eat, and as a Spartan, he wasn't going for it. "I know you want it." The Marine taunted.

The Spartan sighed, "Give it here." The Marine tossed it into the air, and James caught it. "What's your name, soldier?"

"Private Dan Taylor, and you would be?"

"Spartan 115."

"No, you're real name." James didn't like how casual this Marine was to his CO, so he didn't bother answering. "Whatever." The room was silent for a while. Then a strange scuttling noise came from a hole at the bottom of the cave wall. "What the hell?"

James brushed it off, and just stared at the tunnel leading to another area of the cave. That's when he heard the Marine shout in surprise. When he turned his head, there was some sort of critter on Private Taylor's stomach. It was burrowing itself into his body, and fighting Taylor's hands off with barbed tentacles.

James jumped off of his makeshift cot, and attempted to help the Marine, but it was too late. The soldier was writhing on the ground "Aghhh! Help!"

James saw Taylor's skin bubble and transform. Tendrils pushed through the Marine's body as he convulsed. The Spartan had seen many gruesome sights, but nothing like this. Something was moving under the Marine's skin, something sinister.

Five soldiers jogged into the room, assault rifles at their shoulders. James stood in a defensive stance, looking down on the dead soldier.

One of the Marines slowly approached Taylor's body. "What the hell happened to him mate?" James was about to answer when Taylor's corpse jolted forward, and bit the living Marine in his neck. There was a cry of pine as blood sprayed into the air.

The creature was instantly riddled with bullets, and the wounded soldier was pulled out of the room. James heard more scuttling coming from the hole in the wall. The Marines turned to see small sacs of green pour out of the opening. They were easily destroyed, but their numbers seemed limitless.

James swatted the creatures out of the air as they leapt at him. He looked down at the mutilated body that use to be Private Taylor, and realized the obvious solution. The Spartan snatched a grenade off of the fallen soldier's belt, primed it, and threw it into the hole.

Dust and green fluid shot out of the opening as the grenade detonated. The hole was closed up, and so was James' wind pipe. A pair of arms grabbed his throat from behind. He gasped for air as he made a futile attempt to pull the arms off of his neck. The creature was too strong.

The Spartan threw is head back, and crushed the creatures face. It stumbled back, unprepared for the punch that impacted its chest, and flew out the other side. It dropped to the floor, dead.

Just when James thought it was over, cries echoed through the cave. Another creature stumbled through the tunnel leading to the next part of the cave, but didn't attack. It stood still, and stared at James through its bloodshot eyes.

The monster's neck hung at a hideous angle, and bullet wounds covered its skin. It reached out towards James with a hand of tendrils, and spoke in a deep voice through their vibrations, "In the hands of two, lies all, and tonight, those two will fall."
