ders a sword in ODST?

  • 10.03.2009 12:13 PM PDT

When I said about letting the thread die naturally, I meant that for the pepopel who come in here screaming to stop being dumb, there are no secrets...etc. Not for the participators.

I would like to study the "y" symbols, but it seems that they only turn on at a certain point(been replaying perts here and there and haven't seen any, where as they were on nearly everything before...)

"ODSTs & Spartans > Everything, except God. And chances are, He's the Master Chief"

wow that was really thought out and a good read. nicely done mate.

can you imagine an ODST lunging? how weird would that look?
It was probably cut for that reason

I found an extremely interesting inconsistency in the visor map. The Stonehenge style formation appears as such on the visor map but so do 2 other interior plazas. These other two plazas don't have Stonehenge columns though, just the one, which is odd considering the map shows all three as being the same as the first. This is an obvious indicator that there is some form of puzzle going on here. As each plaza is in a different loaded portion of the city, we can assume the game runs a check every time the doors open to indicate whether we have met the condition required to load the Stonehenge formation in the new block. I believe this to be true because I installed the ODST disc to my HD, (which reduced all load times a great deal) and the sections that contained Stonehenge structures on the maps take an extra five seconds to load. This means the game is definitely doing something extra in these areas, and I believe it is a direct result of the inconsistent city map.

My friend is gonna look through the map files for ODST and see if it exists in the Mombasa Streets map. I'll get back to you with what he says.

Ask him to check the medals. If the Sword Spree is in the actual game, then it is much more likely that there is a sword.

He's checking out the .map files, not the game's binaries.

edit: He has confirmed if there is an energy sword, it is not in mombasa streets
It's not that simple. Tell your friend he is wasting his time searching the code. He won't find a weapon named "energy sword", if it's in the game they used a fake name for it. Especially after the IWHBYD fiasco, I doubt Bungie will ever directly name something intended to be secret the same thing it is actually called.

That said, I believe that openly admitting to doing this is a gross violation of forum policy, although I don't know for sure. You, or your 'friend' should not continue your search of the game code, unless you take it somewhere else, not Bungie.net. In short, stop before you are banned.

On the mission ( can't remember name )
where you must find Dare's crash site, as Buck, there is an area where dead elites are and where Buck asks: "what's with all these dead elites?" ( "believe" is painted on the wall here )There is a dead Elite, white in colour. NEXT TO HIM LAYS AN ENERGY SWORD, BUT ONLY THE HANDLE IS VISIBLE.( it has no ammo, i suppose) this confirms there is an energy sword in ODST, but it seems that it isn't playable.

Theres actually 2. The other is next to his other hand, He was deul wielding. =o

Wow that's the best development in a long time I didn't even notice the other ones had stonehenges on the map. Good find! and that means "the puzzle" or requirements or whatever must start with the courtyard that initially has the stonehendge structure!

Wow, this is coming a long way. I think we actually have found something, whether it's an energy sword or not.

Does someone mind pooling everything we now know together? Just to make things easier for newcomers to the "Mystery".

I will post pics in a second but when I went into the first stonehenge area I just sat back and watched the engineers for a second and they were examining the stonehenge structure and shining lights onto it. I then started to walk around it still kinda watching the engineers and this really epic sounding music started play and it kept getting louder. Idk what I did really but nothing major happened. I think we are on the right trail though!

  • 10.03.2009 3:08 PM PDT

Maybe we need to go to certain places in a certain sequence to get something to appear, something similar to the mechanism used to get the IWHBYD skull in Halo 3?

  • 10.03.2009 3:17 PM PDT

a.k.a. Daishi_NRE back in the day when b.net stood for Battle.net.

The music gets louder while in the stonehenge areas because the engineers apear as enemies on your map. Even though they don't attack, they are enemies nonetheless, since you can kill them. Sounds like the same music as other encounters. I maybe wrong though.

here's an empty spot where the stones should be
her's the engineer examining the stones
the other engineer was looking away from the stones
probably doesn't mean much but the engineers light went through the stones

Has anyone tried 3-player co-op and entering the rooms at different times?

  • 10.03.2009 3:40 PM PDT

Don't confuse me with anyone normal.

Two points:

1: My Friend and I where racing eachother in NM on legendary and he stopped his mongoose against a door. When he got off, he went through the door! There wasnt much in the room as the doors were all red and it wont work on every door. (I've tried) but I think you could possibly do that thing in forge where you can get through impassible barriers by using a mongoose.

2: The doors near Dare's dope site that have the blue but you can't access them? Because you can do the missions in any order you see fit, whatever level you do last (that is before you go underground) will have a door (like that one) open for you to travel underground.

3: I know I said two points, but I'm saving this...

EDIT: I will try to do this today to get some pics for you guys...

Has anyone checked to see if the empty Y symbols are actual real life symbols. They might be symbols used in mathematics, or cartography, or just an arrow of some kind.

The whole initial Stonehenge room looks like the Map room in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, to me. Especially with the engineers looking around with their lights, maybe you should watch them without them noticing you for a while and see if they point at something, or do something.

Also, someone should visit these areas in SLASO and CLASO to see if they're the same or not. The puzzle may only appear based on difficulty, number of players, or skulls, and might have something to do with Sadie's Story as well (number of audio files collected, which isn't far fetched considering how you collect the 30th file).

O.K. Somebody asked for a clip of the sercret room I had found earlier. I have it saved in my file share now. the areas covered are the two sections of city before DARE's crash site in Buck's mission. I checked the two doors to the area to make sure they were locked. I then went back to were the dead elites are and shot at them 'till purple blood splattered out. Went back to the locked doors, and they were now opened. They do lock back up after time however. Hope this helps!

I'm pretty sure the "Y"s point to the beacon but idk

You mean this one? Anyone want to render this in SD for quick viewing without Downloading?

Get over yourself - drink vodka!

If you are in the one stonehenge room with the ODST pod, you can see the shadow of what would be the circle of pillars even though there are no pillars there. This signifies that at some point pillars were/will be there.

Good post!
Here`s what I think:
I think that reason that the "empty blocks" in weapon spree section are there not grayed out, because it would not look normal.
At the bottom it`s normal because thats where stuff usually ends..at the bottom.

and please dont bring up Halo 3 medal chest here,it is much older and to be honest,it does look much messy and uncategorized(sp?)

IMHO you are just overthinking things, now shall we stop finding this sword,or should we try find it like people did with Golden Warthog?
but remember the golden has been found so thee is still the possibility that there is more things to be found aand the game just came out so be ready for bombardment of crackpot theories but this is a good one
