Maybe in one of the day time campaign missions out side in the closed part of the city. There is a big area where you can just explore if you get out.

The Sausage King of Chicago.

In an IGN article about ODST weapons, they "confirmed" both the Energy Sword and the Battle Rifle to be in ODST. Obviously they were wrong.

"The next time you see me, I'll be stabbing you to death! Okay?"

Now I gotta search for a sword. xD

I have CDO.
It's like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, only in alphabetical
order like it should be.

Epic lulz.

But aren't they technically correct, though? They never stated we could use the weapons, did they?

It also wouldn't be much of a serach if it didn't exist.
Which I'm 98% sure it doesn't.

PPPPPP--POWER!

Very interesting. I'm going to have to keep an eye on this thread. I didn't even know about the "stonehenges." Shows how much of a detective I really am in this game.

The name's SXcalibur, but to you, it's Daddy.

I'm not gonna reply to any particular posts, just hit a couple of points made by other people and throw in my own ideas.

It would have been easy to remove the unused medals from the site. If they weren't going to use those 5 spaces, they could have just cut them and no one would have been -blam!-ing.

I can guarantee that they're not making any DLC for ODST.

Nope, nice try but you're showing your ignorance.

Game designers frequently leave non-implemented data in their games. Hell Halo 2 had the flood juggernaut which was never in the game and there's no idiotic conspiracy theory predicting its location going on.

Too bad all your theories are wrong. Here I'll give you the correct one:

There's a sword spree medal in ODST because it's an unpolished expansion to Halo 3, built on the same engine with all the same data only repainted.

Man that was hard to think of huh? I doubt Bungie cared enough to go through and remove every little tidbit of data that would be inaccessible in ODST.

I agree.

And as for the medal you can find by changing the HTML. Well they probably took all the Halo 3 spree medals, and automatically modified them (changing colour balances and such) using batch processing. They then uploaded them all, including the sword spree. Doesn't mean that they intended to use it.

If you ever go through someone's code in an open-source program, chances are you'll find a lot of unused stuff. Usually debugging stuff, but not always. Just cause someone wrote a function thinking they might use it, doesn't mean that they called it in there program. Same thign applies here. Just cause they uploaded a file, doesn't mean they need to use it.

It should have been obvious by now that Bungie doesn't half-ass their games. The don't leave unnecessary excess or leave something important out.

If you read what we've discussed, many H3 medals are NOT in the ODST medal database. If it's in there, it's meant to be - it's not going to be a redundant waste of space...
Regardless of whether it is supposed to appear in-game or not.

Engineers were in the Halo 1 coding. It's worth a shot to have fun with this game while it's still hot and active. It won't matter if someone finds anything when reach comes out.

Isna 'Nosolee, my Sangheili name.

personally, i dont see why you would go through so much only to be rewarded with a sword. Id much rather have something along the lines of the Halo 2 Scarab Gun myself. But still, nonetheless, a sword in ODST would be pretty cool. Good luck searching. Finding hidden things is not really my thing, but I will definatley check back here.

there is no sword spree in odst, it's a sticky spree....

It's the fun of the hunt!
Bungie takes pride in hiding things well and relishes when we discover their easter eggs.

They're cool people and we like what they've done.

...

First of all, uploading a GIF to their server has nothing to do with the game. You do not know that the game can upload information that indicates the sword spree medal.

Secondly, leaving something in a game with no way of finding it besides hacking or glitching is not bad programming or laziness. I bet that at least 90% of games contain something in them that is unused.

Thirdly, there's LOTS of things that have been found in game files or depicted in images on disk that are not found ingame. For example:
* The agility powerup in Halo: CE
* Flood forms that carry jackal shields, unfinished but found in Halo: 2 game files
* the previously mentioned flood juggernaught
* I don't have any proof of this, but I'm guessing that there's probably a bunch of unused audio files in most Halo games, and certainly unused textures or art for buildings and regions that were never implemented or modified before the final copy

As games move from alpha version to final retail version, stuff changes. Things are added, things are removed, but usually they aren't completely removed from the game files in case they want to use them later. Instead they just never actually use them in game.

You can either spend time rooting through code, removing every reference to whatever it is you are deleting which will in no way affect the gameplay, or you can spend time doing something usefull that will make the game better. Which do you think Bungie would do?
