It's cool to make up some type of mystery on this subject, but it is obvious that Bungie just used the same database as Halo 3 for the Medal chest with a few additions. It would've made more sense to take out the unnecessary images, but wasn't really necessary.

No. If that was the case, they would have included other medals, such as Skyjacking (jacking a Banshee), a Bulltrue (because if you have a Sword Spree, there must be a Sword on some enemy, and you can get a Bulltrue on them), and Wheelmen (probably the biggest "proof" yet).

Why would they keep Sword Spree and Slice and Dice, which are obtained with a weapon not even in the game, but they don't keep Wheelmen, which would easily be attainable in both Campaign and Firefight?
You're pretty set on this aren't you?

Keep in mind that the Medal Chest is different for Multiplayer and Campaign. For example, I believe there was no Wheelman, Bulltrue, or Highjacking medals in the Halo3 Campaign, and there is no Needler or Plasma Pistol medals in Multiplayer. Though, I am not 100% confident on all the medals that existed.

You are making this more than what it is. But, if you really believe that there is a Sword in the game or was considered for the game, then more power to you. But, I don't because it is obvious to me that Bungie just left the gif packages in the Website's (keyword: "Website's") design. The images you are finding are associated to the files within the website; not the game, like what you seem to think.

It's a cool theory, but it's most likely just because the sword was scrapped at some point in development for some reason or another.

I think its just leftover data from H3 Multiplayer. i mean, isn't the new campaign scoring system taken directly from the Multiplayer?

Caffeine free.

I know for a fact it's not hammer spree. I have Hammer Spree and Dream crusher(Hammer frenzy) medals. Hammers are very useful when the bonus rounds appear :).

On Halo 3 mythbusters I saw that you could get a sword spree by beating people down with an empty energy sword.

You can't pick up an empty sword.

At first I thought the "Y" symbols were navigation information for aliens, being on a wierd planet and all...but I found them somewhere not likely to support that.

The theories on the "Y" symbols seem to be wrong(from engineers). I saw some in one of the weapons bunkers the Sup only opens for you. I doubt the Sup would be letting Engineers with bombs and their brute masters in our arms depots.

A possible rational explanation is that they're symbols for less than intelligent AI's(ordinary robots) use for navigation.

Remember that NM before destruction, looks like a veritable utopia. Clean, vehicles everywhere(As for the same model cars, I'm making a random guess based on science fiction, they're not driven, they're publicly used(maybe owned too) un-manned taxi's).

Now, I'm not saying the "Y"'s are not important in any possible secrets or easter eggs. Just that they're not inscribed by the engineers.

I do recall some Doors that look just like the weapons store's(how many phrases can I use for that?), but that never seem to be open. I've beat on legendary but haven't played mombasa streets on legendary, might be worth a look see.

Between that and other "blue" items in the world that seem to do nothing, and bungies reputation for hiding things, I'd assume there's a great deal to be found.

This urge for everyone to get Recon has glossed over the fact that Bungie does hide things and never talks about them untill fans have hidden them.

That being the case, let these threads die a natural death, no need to come in and try to step on throats. Well, that is incase people start talking about pilotable scarabs and such..

this account isn't linked with my GT for some reason..so just bear with me....

Also....LOK AT MY SCREENSHOTS!!!!...thanks...=)

you've looked WAAAY to much into this...I highly doubt that the symbols have anything to do with any sort of "secret sword spree" and even so, why? why have a hidden medal? it makes no sense. Yes there are most DEFINITELY secrets in ODST all of which have not been found yet, so I say we work on the stuff we already have to look at, like lets say, Sadie's story, and go from there.

.....and If there is a problem with the online medal setup, then by all means take it up with bungie. Ask them to fix the medal chests online. I really don't know.

影の誰彼

There are weapon and stuff hidden in New Mombasa streets, even an abandoned elephant as i have heard somewhere,if you look hard enough you might just find that energy sword(rlly hope there is one ^^) and maybe more, like a battle rifle. Idk but still. Good hunting guys.

That haz some idea. So could they be used by SI for something or something?
Even though I do recall the Y-symbols having some covenant glyphs with them...

Interesting topic......

Maybe the extra medal space is there because of a coding error and it had to stay??

Very interesting. I would like to look into this as well. I'm not thinking much of the medal part of this, but I definitely think there is something up with the glyphs and there is more to be discovered.

Team Swat king? Help/Join me on my way to 50

If the Energy Sword would be in campaign, how the heck could you get a sword spree? Medals are only obtained in Firefight?

So if there is a energy sword, it would be on one of the firefight maps?

How many Ukrainians does it take to change a lightbulb? None, they glow in the dark!

I think the most likely scenario is that they had a sword planned for the game and then discarded it because it was too cumbersome.

I'm not sure if they appear in the medals chest, but if you turn campaign scoring on, the medals WILL appear during campaign games.

Does anyone even read these?

The reason fall damage was taken out of Halo 2 (to my understanding) was because the melee lunge of the Sword caused death from impact.

My guess is that the Energy Sword isn't in Halo 3: ODST because fall damage is back or it just doesn't fit in the Halo canon.

Y....
Is it that symbol the elites put on them when they have been dishonored? Usually when they have spilled blood.
MAYBE, you have to spill blood (use a AOE weapon) around the sign onto the elites bodies to show that you have dishonored yourself to them, and a passage or some super powerful Bungie magic will give you the sword!
