Killer to the cause, thats all that I am...

In a certain room in the game there are glifs that you can't find anywhere else (not to mention 2 ballon guys (i forgot what they are called ok!!) looking around. This didn't surprise me until about 5 min later after i stoped moving. One of them shined a beam of light on the stoney figures juting out above the ground! If the sword can be found it should probaly be there. The only reason why I don't have it is because I moved and they flew away from where they were on the ground.

Okay here's an update on what we've found.

First, off, we think a lot of this relates to hell, and the mark of the beast. Why?

The Hebrew "Y"(Vev) actually stands for 6. Six is VERY, VERY important. There are Six Pillars, Six main Characters, and something else... I'll get to that.

Looking at "Y", it has 3 outward points, and stands for 6. Three sixes is the Mark of the Beast. So, this is insinuating some Dark and fiery things... So I thought back to another thread a while ago. This all fits in very PERFECTLY.

In Dante's Inferno there were 9 Levels of hell. The 6th Level downward is The City of Din. We are very sure that Street level stands for the 6th level of hell, and all of this story is taking place in a city. This supports our the Hell On Earth, City of Din theory. Where does Stonehenge fit into this? Like I stated earlier there were dead Elites killed at every Glyph site, and they WERE killed by Brutes (Permanent Spikes are lodged in some of the Pillars). These Elites were killed for Heresy (leaving the Covenant). The Sixth Level of Hell is for HERETICS. It all fits.

Furthermore to prove this theory, here's some other things we found, and another personal theory. When you descend underground you stop at the 7th Level. There is a policeman down there. The seventh level is for crimes against people, harm, etc. You spend an eternity getting bombarded by arrows on the 7th Level. When you go to the 8th level, the S.I. locks the policeman from going downward, and says "Crime Doesn't Pay". The Policeman is killed by Plasma bolts.

The player at this point can see that the level is getting colder, and by the time he reaches the 9th level it is freezing. The 9th Level of hell is suppose to be freezing, and the resting place of Lucifer himself.

Now this is My Theory. I'm very sure that the S.I. is Rampant, Dare was sent to retrieve him AND the Engineer as a side mission. The S.I. MADE ALL of the Glyphs, evident because the player can only see the Glyphs through VISR mode. He kills people off, and sends out Satanic messages because he his losing his mind. The loss of the S.I. to the Covenant would be devastating, so Dare is killing three birds with one stone. Another clue goes all the way back to Stonehenge. The Single S.I. glyph is sad, and Lucifer is eternally sorrowful. He is damned farthest from God. The S.I. stands for Lucifer.

Again, I want to do more research but this is what I've got.

TL;DR

The Super Intendant is "Lucifer", and the Glyphs are the Mark Of The Beast.

That is VERY impressive. But I'm afraid someone's already beat you to it: link. I have a few questions after reading your post:
Does this extended metaphor have anything to do with an easter egg?
Does the number of glyphs mean anything other than the sign of the beast? (what if there were 8 glyphs, or 4?)
Are telling me that that wuvvable wittle circle guy is the devil?!
Are there any other events in Dante's inferno that may link to the game. The only thing I remember from reading it is the writing on the gate to hell saying "abandon all hope, ye who enter here", or something like that. Does that transfer into the game at all? maybe in sector 1 somewhere (for the first level of hell).

I found something in the legendary ending of odst. When the profit floats down, the tube that he floats down is covered in the "y" symbols. some of them have SI symbals to.

I think everyone is over complicating the glyphs.

The glyphs show up whenever something of interest is around. That usually includes an audio log, campaign objectives, dead elites, etc. I think Bungie designed the glyphs so that they didn't have to use something bland, like an arrow.

Looking to hook up with some competent players! Please PM me if you want a decent team mate, looking to learn from good players and impart what I know to the team too. Im sick of going 'randy' and getting betrayed for the sniper etc.. and having to put up with BK team mates

That may be so but make sure you have a read of This before you jump to any conclusions, this is Gold!

Isn't the superintendent's name Virgil? The one who walks with Dante throughout Dante's Inferno? How could he be the devil?

  • 10.12.2009 8:38 PM PDT

There's been a find on the only glyphs appearing outside of MS in Campaign. At the end of Kikowani Station, in the final hallway there are are a number of glyphs which serve no obvious purpose. I was playing with a couple others and we explored the whole area for a while and couldn't come up with anything.

On the plus side we did discover that its possible to land 3 Banshees on the Phantom at the same time with room for everyone to hang out!

Wow... I read the post about Dante's Inferno, but I didn't realize it covered this. This is just wow... the glyphs are the Mark of the Beast? I knew Bungie hid some reference to religious events in their games, but usually they aren't Satanic.... Wow....

Monin

There are 4 stonehenges one is in the grey area

LordQuagga, some of your post makes sense but the rest is ridiculous. There are definitely connections to The Divine Comedy (Virgil, levels of hell), but there are several holes in your "theory".

1. "Vav" is not the Hebrew letter for Y but rather V (and sometimes W).
2. The "number of the beast" (666) is found in the book of Revelation, which is the newest book of the New Testament. This means it wasn't even originally written in Hebrew (and never has been). There is no connection there.
3. other than the fact that Din is also a city, there isn't really a connection between it and Mombasa
4. The Si isn't rampant. It's a "dumb" AI, and unlike Cortana and other smart AI's, it can't think for itself (isn't self aware). Quoted from the Halopedia: "An A.I. literally "thinks" itself to death. Dumb A.I.s do not have this problem as they do not learn anything that is outside of their set limits of dynamic memory processing matrix".
In addition, the man the SI kills is no innocent. If you had gotten all 29 of the audio files, the man lives, and he goes with you. You later find out that he was responsible (under the orders of Commissioner Kinsler) for the death of Dr. Endesha, Sadie's father. You get the final (30th) audio log in the freezing part of the labs, past a locked door which is opened if you have 29 logs. From this log you find out that the freezing is caused by argon, which the police officer flooded the lab with to kill the doctor.

In fact, the SI congratulates you for killing the soldier yourself saying: "Crime doesn't pay. Good citizens do their part".

so basically good effort but think it through a little better next time

I really suprised no one has commented on this article here, LINK TO ARTICLE, this guy has spent hours observing the mystery and mannerisms that surround the Glyphs.

He's taken photos and posted evidence of his findings that relate to the secret of the new mombassa streets. If anything I would have thought that someone who was truly looking to uncover the secret that may/or may not be there, would have had a read and even mentioned its worth towards this cause besides me.
