Okay here's an update on what we've found.
First, off, we think a lot of this relates to hell, and the mark of the beast. Why?
The Hebrew "Y"(Vev) actually stands for 6. Six is VERY, VERY important. There are Six Pillars, Six main Characters, and something else... I'll get to that.
Looking at "Y", it has 3 outward points, and stands for 6. Three sixes is the Mark of the Beast. So, this is insinuating some Dark and fiery things... So I thought back to another thread a while ago. This all fits in very PERFECTLY.
In Dante's Inferno there were 9 Levels of hell. The 6th Level downward is The City of Din. We are very sure that Street level stands for the 6th level of hell, and all of this story is taking place in a city. This supports our the Hell On Earth, City of Din theory. Where does Stonehenge fit into this? Like I stated earlier there were dead Elites killed at every Glyph site, and they WERE killed by Brutes (Permanent Spikes are lodged in some of the Pillars). These Elites were killed for Heresy (leaving the Covenant). The Sixth Level of Hell is for HERETICS. It all fits.
Furthermore to prove this theory, here's some other things we found, and another personal theory. When you descend underground you stop at the 7th Level. There is a policeman down there. The seventh level is for crimes against people, harm, etc. You spend an eternity getting bombarded by arrows on the 7th Level. When you go to the 8th level, the S.I. locks the policeman from going downward, and says "Crime Doesn't Pay". The Policeman is killed by Plasma bolts.
The player at this point can see that the level is getting colder, and by the time he reaches the 9th level it is freezing. The 9th Level of hell is suppose to be freezing, and the resting place of Lucifer himself.
Now this is My Theory. I'm very sure that the S.I. is Rampant, Dare was sent to retrieve him AND the Engineer as a side mission. The S.I. MADE ALL of the Glyphs, evident because the player can only see the Glyphs through VISR mode. He kills people off, and sends out Satanic messages because he his losing his mind. The loss of the S.I. to the Covenant would be devastating, so Dare is killing three birds with one stone. Another clue goes all the way back to Stonehenge. The Single S.I. glyph is sad, and Lucifer is eternally sorrowful. He is damned farthest from God. The S.I. stands for Lucifer.
Again, I want to do more research but this is what I've got.
TL;DR
The Super Intendant is "Lucifer", and the Glyphs are the Mark Of The Beast.
That is VERY impressive. But I'm afraid someone's already beat you to it: link. I have a few questions after reading your post:
Does this extended metaphor have anything to do with an easter egg?
Does the number of glyphs mean anything other than the sign of the beast? (what if there were 8 glyphs, or 4?)
Are telling me that that wuvvable wittle circle guy is the devil?!
Are there any other events in Dante's inferno that may link to the game. The only thing I remember from reading it is the writing on the gate to hell saying "abandon all hope, ye who enter here", or something like that. Does that transfer into the game at all? maybe in sector 1 somewhere (for the first level of hell).
Wow... I read the post about Dante's Inferno, but I didn't realize it covered this. This is just wow... the glyphs are the Mark of the Beast? I knew Bungie hid some reference to religious events in their games, but usually they aren't Satanic.... Wow....
