But we've already played around with the sword. Hell, i'll usually run past one unless I have no other weapons and it's not because I can't use one. ODST is about stealth and keeping your distance, not going up and slicing your enemies. Even if it is in the game, why would you want to use it? The Scarab gun is obvious, but the sword is just a sword.

a.k.a. Daishi_NRE back in the day when b.net stood for Battle.net.

The whole spilling blood thing looks like it might work. In Bucks mission (Plaza?)where he faces the 2 hunters and says that "he doesn't have time for this", when he enters that section with the female marine that sugests that he go "behind" the brutes. on the 2nd floor, there is a T intersection in the hallway that has a dead marine and some grenades and a closed door. I just tried that "spilling blood idea" and that door, as well as another to the open area unlocked. I didn't see anything in it, but when I left the section and came back, the doors were locked again. The Elites that I shot/melee'd for blood to spill were located in the section just north of that locked area. I believe that's where Buck asks what happened, when he sees the dead Elites in the dead end alley. Not much, but it does seem to open up certain areas!

Just another addition, i'm get a little confused when someone says they copied the exact Halo 3 Medal + Killing systems and added them to the ODST database, removing and adding some.
This picture found by Gamesagers shows an Energy Sword, but it has color and detail.. This was found in the ODST database.
However, the energy sword found in the Halo 3 database has only one color, and is smaller.

This brings me to the question, why would they make an updated sword graphic? Why not just say "Oh yeah, we're not adding the Sword so there is no point wasting my time making this picture." This either supports the theory that the sword is in the game, or it WAS in the game.

I like Six's death, the way the scene was made makes it look like Six is in a nightmare, powerless and tired to stop the unending waves of elites before she can't carry on anymore. Like trying to wriggle free from a spiderweb you just can't do it and end up tiring yourself in panic.

I just checked and the sword picture is also in the images for the weapons in odst just click view image on one of the weapons and replace the name with sword. http://www.bungie.net/images/halo3stats/odst/weapons/gif_med/ sword.gif I think you're right. okay i also checked and it is a new image heres the halo 3 image url here notice how the image is different too.

Then we definitely have swords, because it says "ODST" in the link and not just "Halo 3".

Keep in mind that the Medal Chest is different for Multiplayer and Campaign. For example, I believe there was no Wheelman, Bulltrue, or Highjacking medals in the Halo3 Campaign, and there is no Needler or Plasma Pistol medals in Multiplayer. Though, I am not 100% confident on all the medals that existed.

You are making this more than what it is. But, if you really believe that there is a Sword in the game or was considered for the game, then more power to you. But, I don't because it is obvious to me that Bungie just left the gif packages in the Website's (keyword: "Website's") design. The images you are finding are associated to the files within the website; not the game, like what you seem to think.

We have no illusions. We know we're working with the website code not the game code. We don't feel like doing what certain people did with Hayabusa. Even so, knowing that the sword medals/animations/weapon were in the game would put us in the exact same position as we are right now - we still don't know whether we can find a sword loaded into the map and pick it up for use.

Perhaps you should understand the timeline of events that developed into this 3-part theory?

1) I (among many others) find the 5 empty medal boxes in the weapon spree category to be suspicious.
2) I look into the web code to find out what I can. We figure out that the black medal boxes are each added onto the gray background which shows through below the style medals, meaning Bungie intentionally added the empty ones.
3) My friend and I find a sword spree that might be redundant from H3, but it is re-rendered into higher resolution. Other H3 medals do NOT exist in the ODST medal database so we are lead to believe they are there purposefully.

4) Seeing the sword spree, we set out in NM at night simply to explore hoping something will lead to a hidden sword.

5) While exploring the Y symbols attract our attention much more than when we player through the game. We gravitate to the 3 "stonehenge" areas and assume there is a secret about them.

The sword may be completely separate from the puzzle we believe to exist. They seem correlated in this thread because we found both suspicions at the same time.

We have no illusions.

Please just report it and move on. The more people that quote it, the more it gets distributed. Also, edit the URL out of your quote of him please.

No offense but i feel stupid enough paying Microsoft for virtual maps yet alone having to pay 10$ for a sword? wtf

  • 10.02.2009 6:57 AM PDT

This is all pretty interesting. I could see there being some secret sword hidden somewhere, just like the scarab gun in Halo 2. But I could also see this turning into another "secret of sandtrap" lol.

By the way, that stonehenge room there is in the game with the dead elites. That place is pretty mysterious and I always wondered what exactly it was for. It's seemed kinda ceremonial, almost sacrificial but I have no real clue.

Most likely - I need to agree with Matu here in that it was probably a quick rework.

You could try to spin this as proof of the existance of a non-existant weapon or DLC project, but what's probably a more rational conclusion is that at some point in developement the sword was nixed from ODST and all pertaining materials on it (Ex. medals) were removed in the easiest way possible.

Namely, simply hiding the associated medals rather than reworking the stat system to remove the sword from all mention.

So, you guys think they intended to have a Sword in at one point, made up new spree and weapon GIFs, and then decided to not use it?
First, amazing thread. It has been awhile since I willingly read every post.
Now personnely I would be surprised if there wasn't a sword or something. Do you all remember Halo 2 and that amazing Scarab Gun? Bungie hid a special gun in the game once. Now I don't think it would be as powerful as that, simply because it would completely offset the Bungie.Net campaign stats, etc. But it certainly wouldn't surprise me if there was a sword or something else in the game. Saved and ready to help in any way I can.

Maybe the "Y" on the walls could mean that you have to pick out 3 locations that it's located at and find the place that the 3 intestect at one point and maybe the sword is located there. It would take time trying diferent combinations of 3 locations that contain the "Y" symbol but it might be worth a try. Hope somebody finds it ; )
