Little to no mercy.

I can't wait to unlock Recon just so I can not wear it.

I'm too cool for your stupid armor.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

Agreed. I deserve something for playing for 2 years straight, no recon per se, but maybe a medal or a sticker or something.

I agree with you. The only thing is that it kind of sucks for the people who got Recon early on in the life of Halo 3. But a lot of these people are well known among the Halo community. Since the game's been out for so long, it's mostly die hard fans still playing, and they know who the "who's who" is within the B.net and Halo 3 world.

People often forget, or don't consider Bungie to be a company when they complain about things they do. Just because you can talk to employees and they are so in touch with the community doesn't mean that at the end of the day everything they do isn't for $$$$. Of course, Bungie does care a lot about their fans, don't get me wrong.

Well constructed thread. 10 points for execution, 10 points for idea, 10 points for positive feedback. Perfect score across the board.

Many of those "Pre-ODSTs" don't realize their recognition. You make several great points. Thanks for the feedback.

I speak for the majority of hardcore Halo fans who only thought Recon was cool when we were trying to find it in game (Halo 3 launch). It has been a plague since that point and I'm glad it will finally go away. I hope the forums can regain some sort of sanity as they were pre- Halo 2 launch.

I found recon as a good incentive to borrow ODST. I'm not going to buy it for an armor permutation.

Good post though, OP, you bring up a lot of good points. I agree that recon being unlockable for everyone works out well for all.

People like a challenge.

Except that it's not a challenge. It's extremely easy to obtain. And the fact that they are called "Vidmasters" is even MORE insulting. Not that the vast amount of you will even understand this part.

When you *used* to see Recon in Matchmaking, typically the person did something very unique to earn it as a reward. This allowed other parts of the Community a chance to explain how they got it (I'm a moderator on B.net. I run Halo Charts. I do machinima. Et Cetera). Now if you see someone with Recon in MM, they did nothing. They contributed nothing. Nothing POSITIVE was gained.

Bungie didn't need to couple Recon with ODST to get people to buy the game. The name "Halo" does that all on it's own. And Bungie certainly didn't need to use Recon to get people to play Halo 3 again. If they wanted to get people to either buy ODST and/or play Halo 3 for a shot at Recon, all they had to do was say they would run another contest like "Bungie Day". That one playlist had over 215,000 people in it...when I was playing it consistently all day. Make then new "Bungie Day" contest Mythic Disk required, and I guarantee you the same amount of people who the OP says bought ODST for a chance at Recon with the 'Road to Recon' would have bought it for another 'Bungie Day' contest.

Which is why Bungie was so ready to hand Recon out left and right towards the release of ODST. Because after the release of ODST, it's meaningless.

To put it more plainly. The people that were constantly asking for Recon and are the ones that are happy they can unlock it now...you're basically the reason why we can't have nice things anymore. You can't be trusted not to whine, -blam!-, steal, fraud, and eventually devalue something as trivial video game armor. You're like the 4 year old kid that screams at the top of their lungs for a candy bar...and eventually the parent just gives it to you to shut you the hell up.

Now, since you have your candy bar...can you please shut the hell up?

So stop reading and join already or Get Simmonsized!

I have to disagree about the whole playing Halo 3 more. Now that I have unlocked recon, my next goal is to get the mythic achievements like "Save this Film" and "Swords Spree" and "Open Season".

I play Halo with a goal in mind. After I get the achievements, my ulitmate goal that I will devote the more time to is achieving a 50 in Halo 3 and being considered better then your average player.

My skill now is about average, I have great days, good days, lazy days.

With my Road to Recon completed, I just have to shift my focus.

I also have a side goal of winning a Grifball Tournament. But that'll have to wait.

I think most people just play Halo with a set of goals in mind, not just to show off armor.

This is solely your opinion, which could never suffice as a strong argument.

Contributed nothing? The dedicated fans have played Halo 3 for over two years and have most likely tried several other methods to obtain the armor like myself. (Sarkathlon, HUD, Bungie Day). I find it pretty positive that with ODSTs release, the Bungie community can work towards new goals etc.

Bungie didn't need to couple Recon with ODST to get people to buy the game. The name "Halo" does that all on it's own. They could have done several different things, but with this method they no longer have to deal with people asking for it, you want it, GO EARN IT. The future is more important and I am sure Bungie will have an exclusive armor, or something of that nature, for their future games.

Which is why Bungie was so ready to hand Recon out left and right towards the release of ODST. Because after the release of ODST, it's meaningless.

In my own defense, I put a lot of thought into my OP. I did my best to base everything on facts and common sense. I don't think your analogy applies when an intellgent topic is posted such as mine.

I am a pharmaceutical scientist. I received my Masters degree in Pharmaceutics from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2010, after working as a Pharmacist for 4 years. I currently work in King of Prussia, PA, and focus on the analytical chemistry of small molecule APIs. My clients include some of the most well known big pharma companies in the world.

I'd like to see some numbers in an upcoming weekly update that shows just how many people have unlocked recon. My guess is that still, less than 5% of the community has it. People on this forum are more likely to have it than others because forum-goers are more likely to than not to be more involved with the game than a casual player.

Kids will cry no matter what happens, first it was kids crying it was unfair not everyone could get it, now you have kids crying it's too easy there's just no grey area. But yeah I think it's a good thing at least everyone has the option to unlock it now.

As is your entire OP and subsequent posts. On something as relative as this topic, you'll never have anything empirical to stand on, so trying to dismiss something because it's "opinion" is a pathetic strawman argument. Which, for the record, is not a "strong argument" either. However, to give you a reference point, since these achievements are called "Vidmasters", the things required to complete to unlock Recon are INFINITELY easier than the original Vidmaster challenge. If Bungie had made it so that you were required to complete ODST SLASO, or even Co-opLASO, I'd probably have less of a problem with it. However, they didn't, and the requirements are by and far painfully easy. For further proof of the ease of achievements, see how many people have completed SLASO/Mythic challenges and how many people in a WEEK AND A HALF have Recon unlocked.

Good, you tried your hand at a few contests. And didn't win. What is your point here again? You participated in contests, didn't win, and now you think you should have an easy way to achieve the same reward? That's like me playing the lottery for years, never winning, and then expecting them to make it "choose a number between 1 and 5" and if I get it right, I hit the 300 million dollar Powerball. By playing Halo 3 since it's launch (like I and thousands of other have as well) you aren't entitled to anything other than the enjoyment of all those games. You don't deserve a chance at Recon, and the fact that you even think that is so repugnant I'm finding it quite hard to keep this above what will get me banned. You DON'T DESERVE Recon and chances are you never will. And just for clarification: I don't deserve Recon as well.

They could have done several different things, but with this method they no longer have to deal with people asking for it, you want it, GO EARN IT. The future is more important and I am sure Bungie will have an exclusive armor, or something of that nature, for their future games.

No, they just have to deal with all the people complaining because they can't unlock something they shouldn't have. "I can't get my '7 on 7' achievement to unlock, prohibiting me from getting Recon". Or "Recon is the new Hayabusa". Speaking of Hayabusa, it is another armor that the vast majority of people should never have achieved. But again, the pathetic nature of humanity demonstrated that if Bungie makes something positive, the community will find a way to destroy it. See, unlocking the IWHBYD skull because people rummaged through code.

And from my interactions, I sincerely doubt that Bungie will make another "exclusive armor" for Reach. Because it's not worth the hassle. It's not worth listening to people act like 5 year olds screaming because they can't have what lil Billy has. It's not worth seeing people's accounts get defrauded and stolen because they have an exclusive armor. It's not worth moderating thousands of threads all talking about something they shouldn't care about and they only do care about it because they can't have it.

Giving Recon out via ODST was nothing but a pacifier. Something you give screaming children to shut them up.

In my own defense, I put a lot of thought into my OP. I did my best to base everything on facts and common sense. I don't think your analogy applies when an intellgent topic is posted such as mine.

Regardless of what you're trying to argue, awarding Recon via ODST was nothing more than pacifying toddlers who can't play well with others. There was no benefit to it and only discredited what others had done in the past to IMO legitimately earn the award. In the greater utilitarian sense of it, this was a giant leap in the wrong direction. And no mitigating argument will lessen that fact.

The fact that Bungie even felt the need to release Recon to the public in order to squelch the whining should make you as disappointed as I am.
