This is solely your opinion, which could never suffice as a strong argument.
As is your entire OP and subsequent posts. On something as relative as this topic, you'll never have anything empirical to stand on, so trying to dismiss something because it's "opinion" is a pathetic strawman argument. Which, for the record, is not a "strong argument" either. However, to give you a reference point, since these achievements are called "Vidmasters", the things required to complete to unlock Recon are INFINITELY easier than the original Vidmaster challenge. If Bungie had made it so that you were required to complete ODST SLASO, or even Co-opLASO, I'd probably have less of a problem with it. However, they didn't, and the requirements are by and far painfully easy. For further proof of the ease of achievements, see how many people have completed SLASO/Mythic challenges and how many people in a WEEK AND A HALF have Recon unlocked.
Contributed nothing? The dedicated fans have played Halo 3 for over two years and have most likely tried several other methods to obtain the armor like myself. (Sarkathlon, HUD, Bungie Day). I find it pretty positive that with ODSTs release, the Bungie community can work towards new goals etc.
Good, you tried your hand at a few contests. And didn't win. What is your point here again? You participated in contests, didn't win, and now you think you should have an easy way to achieve the same reward? That's like me playing the lottery for years, never winning, and then expecting them to make it "choose a number between 1 and 5" and if I get it right, I hit the 300 million dollar Powerball. By playing Halo 3 since it's launch (like I and thousands of other have as well) you aren't entitled to anything other than the enjoyment of all those games. You don't deserve a chance at Recon, and the fact that you even think that is so repugnant I'm finding it quite hard to keep this above what will get me banned. You DON'T DESERVE Recon and chances are you never will. And just for clarification: I don't deserve Recon as well.
They could have done several different things, but with this method they no longer have to deal with people asking for it, you want it, GO EARN IT. The future is more important and I am sure Bungie will have an exclusive armor, or something of that nature, for their future games.
No, they just have to deal with all the people complaining because they can't unlock something they shouldn't have. "I can't get my '7 on 7' achievement to unlock, prohibiting me from getting Recon". Or "Recon is the new Hayabusa". Speaking of Hayabusa, it is another armor that the vast majority of people should never have achieved. But again, the pathetic nature of humanity demonstrated that if Bungie makes something positive, the community will find a way to destroy it. See, unlocking the IWHBYD skull because people rummaged through code.
And from my interactions, I sincerely doubt that Bungie will make another "exclusive armor" for Reach. Because it's not worth the hassle. It's not worth listening to people act like 5 year olds screaming because they can't have what lil Billy has. It's not worth seeing people's accounts get defrauded and stolen because they have an exclusive armor. It's not worth moderating thousands of threads all talking about something they shouldn't care about and they only do care about it because they can't have it.
Giving Recon out via ODST was nothing but a pacifier. Something you give screaming children to shut them up.
In my own defense, I put a lot of thought into my OP. I did my best to base everything on facts and common sense. I don't think your analogy applies when an intellgent topic is posted such as mine.
Regardless of what you're trying to argue, awarding Recon via ODST was nothing more than pacifying toddlers who can't play well with others. There was no benefit to it and only discredited what others had done in the past to IMO legitimately earn the award. In the greater utilitarian sense of it, this was a giant leap in the wrong direction. And no mitigating argument will lessen that fact.
The fact that Bungie even felt the need to release Recon to the public in order to squelch the whining should make you as disappointed as I am.
