The funny thing is though is that the Vidmaster achievements make it more out of reach then ever. I was only ever a casual Halo fan, recently I've renewed interest because everything else has got dull and Halo has that ability to stand the test of time.

But back to point three of the Vidmasters require 4 player Live co-op doing a task which is neither speedy nor easy. Bungie kind of screwed over anyone who say plays Halo but all their friends play Call of Duty and think Halo sucks. I'm kind of disappointed that the requirements for Recon are not a solo endeavor, Annual may be possible for Deja Vu and Endure are out of the question because none of my close friends have any plans to buy ODST. I really wish the achievements were something that would be difficult but something that can be done alone if need be. I feel kind of cheated in that way.

There is nothing wrong with Halo:Reach. We all just have our gripes about everything we don't like. Not liking something doesn't make it broken.

I can think of two forum groups on this website you could join off the top of my head that can and will solve your problem.

Owners of the Katana

and

Beast mode on

Both groups worth the time to get into, they also both caters to both the casual and hardcore sides of the haloverse. You should at LEAST check them out. They can definitely help you. they helped ME get Endure just last night.

Don't forget to mention that the complaining about recon has been put to an end. Soon it'll all be a thing of the past.

Now they still cry about it. Instead of "can I has recon" Its "OMFG everyone has recon?"

yea but maby those 2 year olds mommys will give them 50 bucks so they can go buy the game and unlock the amoure for themselfs

You are still special. You had it before the vidmasters and got it doing something cool. You are still as you were. Recon is a blue ribbon, not a sign saying what you did.

You got it in Bungie Vs. The world. You beat bungie in a match. That special something you did for it is the same type of special it was. You even got recon before anyone else. If you explain what you did and they don't respect you for the achievements you made to GET the armor, they are stupid and don't deserve to understand.

Sorry man, but the armor is not the prize, it was being recognized by Bungie for doing something special. You should try to wake up and understand that.

I think everyone is missing the obvious point on why Bungie released Recon.

They are simply working to establish their fanbase (aka Community). Let me elaborate here and you can see where I'm going with this...

So all it takes to unlock Recon are the 7 Vidmasters right?!?? WRONG! You must also have a linked BNET account with your gamertag. This is a requirement. And, you must come to this site to unlock it!

During matchmaking, you are lucky to have half of the players with a linked BNET account. They have likely never been here, never checked their stats, or are aware of what is going on with the community. By having this requirement, it brings them here, thus building their fanbase and keeping them abreast with the Halo scene.

Now tell me why unlockable Recon is NOT a good thing? Would you rather not have this great community expanded? Do you not enjoy Bungie's continuous efforts and improvements to this awesome website? Even if Recon is no longer 'cool' or whatever, at least we will see the rewards thru our support to Bungie.

  • 10.02.2009 11:47 AM PDT

Get the hell off my planet!

As long as people quit screaming about it, I'm cool with it. I'm just going to have to Endure the final challenge.

See what I did there?

I am human, I am good and bad as well. But I try my hardest to stay good. And some of the things I do and say may be bad. Or just not too good, but I do try.

So with that said I don't fault you. I mean your only human, good or bad.

Stat and Sig

Hey.

With this thread I know I will not be able to convince everyone in the community, but I hope to at least shed some light and common sense on a few of you. I have seen countless threads for and against allowing people to unlock Recon. The majority of those threads provide no strong argument either way.

I managed to unlock Recon through the Vidmaster Challenges, but not before I tried countless other methods. To explain my argument I will focus on two important questions:

How does Bungie benefit from allowing the community to unlock Recon through the Vidmaster Challenges?
-Provides incentive for Halo 3 fans to purchase Halo 3: ODST so Bungie can make more money. At the end of the day, they are running a business.

-People that unlock Recon are likely to play Halo 3 more often now, which is probably why people are complaining how "EVERYONE" has Recon in matchmaking.

-More people will play ODST as well for the achievements, obtaining Recon, campaign or some fun in firefight. The popularity of the game played on live will help bring in support and money from Microsoft so Bungie become bigger and better (take over the world).

-Unlockable Recon means that Recon will most likely not be "given" away anymore. This might be argued as a bad thing but it allows Bungie to focus on the future of their game developments such as Halo: Reach.

How does the community benefit from Bungie allowing us to unlock Recon?
-We get several more armor combinations, although this is a small point, it is a point to be made.

-The last of the Mythic Maps came out so that means nothing else can be released for Halo 3. Now we can enjoy EVERYTHING Halo 3 has to offer because of Recon, all the maps etc.

-Halo 3 has been out for over two years now, the most dedicated and determined community members will be able to unlock Recon. If anyone sticks with one game for more than two years, they and WE deserve Recon. Keep in mind, Bungie isn't allowing those that got the Vidmasters early or cheating to get them to obtain Recon.

-Recon is UNLOCKABLE and not GIVEN to us. We still have to earn it if we want it. If you are not happy with it, don't earn it or don't wear it.

You read my mind.

Not OP's fault. His thread is the only one that happens to be productive or within any sense of fair reasoning. The other threads are what need to go, this one does no harm.

Also, nice forum name. Loki is an interesting norse god.

You and many others are not totally understanding OP.

He is not saying they need to stop or are going to stop. He is saying that unlockable Recon is a GOOD thing and needs to start being treated that way.

I understand the desire to get rid of the requests, but that is not the point of the original post.

What I was saying, sort of off-topic, is that I'm tired of seeing so many threads about recon armor, and I hope people read this and no more threads are made.

You made an excellent point that I didn't mention in the OP. Thank you.

And Barage, I am not trying to disrespect you in any way and I can't understand why you keep referring to me, and others, as a "whiny toddler" and whatnot. I appreciate an intelligent argument but please steer clear of flaming, that is not the intention of this thread.

Although the OP truly is my opinion, I did include as much FACT that I could. It is not your opinion that I was discrediting, just that specific point of the difficulty of the vidmasters. Just read the quote above.

If Bungie thinks that completing Vidmasters is deserving of Recon, then I do deserve it. The fact that I didn't win it prior to ODST was to imply that I would've got it eventually for something.

It is always a possibility that they might make something exclusive in Reach, they did it for Halo 3, we shall see.

You seem to be missing some of my points, Bungie benefits in other ways besides not having to deal with the complaints of the community. Obviously, the complaining hasn't stopped, it has just turned into a different complaint.
