I think everyone is missing the obvious point on why Bungie released Recon.
They are simply working to establish their fanbase (aka Community). Let me elaborate here and you can see where I'm going with this...
So all it takes to unlock Recon are the 7 Vidmasters right?!?? WRONG! You must also have a linked BNET account with your gamertag. This is a requirement. And, you must come to this site to unlock it!
During matchmaking, you are lucky to have half of the players with a linked BNET account. They have likely never been here, never checked their stats, or are aware of what is going on with the community. By having this requirement, it brings them here, thus building their fanbase and keeping them abreast with the Halo scene.
Now tell me why unlockable Recon is NOT a good thing? Would you rather not have this great community expanded? Do you not enjoy Bungie's continuous efforts and improvements to this awesome website? Even if Recon is no longer 'cool' or whatever, at least we will see the rewards thru our support to Bungie.
You made an excellent point that I didn't mention in the OP. Thank you.
And Barage, I am not trying to disrespect you in any way and I can't understand why you keep referring to me, and others, as a "whiny toddler" and whatnot. I appreciate an intelligent argument but please steer clear of flaming, that is not the intention of this thread.
Although the OP truly is my opinion, I did include as much FACT that I could. It is not your opinion that I was discrediting, just that specific point of the difficulty of the vidmasters. Just read the quote above.
If Bungie thinks that completing Vidmasters is deserving of Recon, then I do deserve it. The fact that I didn't win it prior to ODST was to imply that I would've got it eventually for something.
It is always a possibility that they might make something exclusive in Reach, they did it for Halo 3, we shall see.
You seem to be missing some of my points, Bungie benefits in other ways besides not having to deal with the complaints of the community. Obviously, the complaining hasn't stopped, it has just turned into a different complaint.
