In the days of old, there were legends of a land long lost to time. This land was known as Ranna'Mor. Ranna'Mor was said to contain in its borders 7 warriors. These warriors had once unleashed a veritable hell upon the ancient world, until they were locked away. My name is Toriad, and I am one of those warriors. Our return is approaching. Do not run away, do not cower in fear; take solace in your final days, for that is all we can do. -Legend of Ranna'Mor
No, when the game is released, it's released. The idea of releasing the game in the early fall is for the sake of the holiday season. Can you imagine how bad the lines would be if such a game were released in, say, early december? All these parents, aunts, uncles, etc would be waiting in line to buy this game for someone. This would also actually prevent a lot of people from play or getting the game, either because someone bought it for them and the receiver must wait, or because a person has spent so much on others and has little money to spend on his/herself.
When releasing a game in early fall, it allows for more people to buy and play it right away, and when the holidays come, the game is out and people can buy it off the shelves with little to no worries about getting a copy or waiting in even longer lines.
Regarding the kids skipping schools: Going off the standard school system, it's better to miss a class at the beginning of the year in fall than to miss on during winter (right around the time of mid-year finals) or during late spring (end of the year finals).
Fall releases are the ideal. The only time better would be a summer release because most people are out of school and/or have more free time.
