I'm not a modder but I think that all the crap given to modders is over rated. Take a look at this and READ the description!

Well if it's not in an online match, especially ranked, then I agree. It is fun I've even tried it. Ahhh shooting plasma grenades out of smgs, good times good times. :)

The good old days aye. You lads ever shoot warthogs through a rocket launcher before? Or flew a pelican on coagulation the size of the map? I remember such when at a LAN party for my computer genius's birthday before. 'Twas a great many years ago it seems. Duel needlers was my thing... named the combo me name cause of it. :) I am truly so glad they have not yet taken Halo 2 off live for I want not to forget those good old days. Great times and memories deserved not to be exiled. Just like them mods you speak of. Loved them as much, especially with a computer whiz as a friend. :) 'Twas great. Excellent. Outstanding. Thank you for this thread lad, brought thee yet one more smile today. ~Cm

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

Modding was fun when it was in custom games. Some people abused modding too much in ranked matches.

modding in a ranked match will only get you automatically booted thats all.
we can mod custom games, but really modding halo is dead.

get the message, Bungie and Microsoft don't like us modding their Halo games.

other game publishers/developers do.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Depends on the modding, some like mapmods will give you a instant ban on custom games, weather you are on a original or 360 (yes, you can mod h2 on the 360). Others, though, i havent seen a ban for on customs (some guy said he was modding)

Halo 2 also has a anti cheat system intended to detect switchers, boosters, and people who hack the network and mods and ban them.

Not to mention, there is a ps3 game which lets you use PC mods (UT3), while the 360 version cant due to ms content approval.

And also, Halo 3 has mods, but they try to say OMG FILE SHARE BAN if you put what they call modded in your file share, though, you can use them in custom games.

It happened a lot back then. You usually faced modders a lot once past level 25 in any playlist back during halo 2's prime years. Good times, I miss em.

Modding maps for looks is fine in my opinion. But if you do it to win games and cheat then its stupid. Ive seen some really awesome looking skins for maps and stuff like that.

Several of the people I used to know modded for the fun of it rather than to ruin matchmaking, myself included. With mods there's several things you can do, and with it you can have loads of fun, it may seem like the only modders there were were the 5 year old kids who went and bought Splinter Cell and an Action Replay and used pre-made mods for matchmaking so that they could rank up (Which was completely useless.) but there was a lot of people who didn't do that, they simply stuck to custom matches and messed around with their flying warthogs, random spartans/elites that just stood there, spawning random things, etc. On top of that, you didn't necessarily need to be the modder to be able to use the mods, because when they hosted the game, they could have everyone use the mods.

I'm with you though, mods never should have been used in matchmaking, as it ruins the entire purpose of it, and since then, players who're desperate for ranks on Halo 3 use several things such as a lag switch. To me, the whole ranking system eventually killed the community, which is why I only really like playing customs on Halo 2/3, that and the fact that I'm banned from Halo 2 matchmaking for modding, even though I never used mods in matchmaking, they had an automatic 24 hour ban after it detects modified content on your Xbox. And to be honest, I didn't like matchmaking on Halo 2 because of all the stupid modders, even though that sounds like I'm being a real hypocrite, I'm not trying to be.

Overall, mods aren't always a bad thing, but they can be when people who care so much about precious ranks on a game want to "Be good" at the game. They're also extremely fun and can be good for changing the way a map looks to make it feel almost completely different.

Bungie are being kind to modded Films, Forge and Gametypes, which would explain why they aren't banning people for it.

modded screenshots are their real enemy.

Halo 2 had the greatest mods, importing scarabs into MP, or spawning Scarabs on Turf, lol.

or playing against AI, on system link networks.
and also, a mod which made campaign on Halo 2 Xbox which is amazing.
