Subject: IGN's want list, and my take on it.

im sure many of you visit the ign website. recently they have come out with a "want list" of things they want changed or added to Reach. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/103/1030795p2.html. Bungie should really give a look at this.

To sum it up, IGN basically wants the story line to be more serious.(the grunts are getting annoying, their "shenanigans" wore off after the first halo, and the marines should act serious like their in a war, not paint balling), add bigger scoped battle fields (the book describes some pretty cool battles), and make the elites and the other covenant more of a threat.(brutes are retarded, im glad they're not gonna be in this one). Also-because in the books Nylund describes the translation software as a new thing- hearing the elites and grunts in their native tone would add some perception on just how weird and terrifying these aliens are, and will add a huge contraction between humans and covenant.

All of this makes perfect sense. If you have read the books, you will agree that the story told in halo just isnt as impactful and emotional compared to the stories told by Nylund. There is minimal humor(which works) and the battles portrayed seem to have a much wider scale.

What do you want to see in the new halo? And do you agree with IGN?

Yes.

  • 10.03.2009 2:21 PM PDT

This is what I get from IGN?

We want better graphics, but at the same time bigger battles. It doesn't make sense. I know.

We want a sprint button, because obviously just putting the running speed to 150% requires a button, and mongeese aren't fun.

We want an emotional story. Woman dying in the streets with children on their teets. It should also make sense, because summer blockbusters should make sense. We don't want to think about what the dialogue implies.

The Brutes were actually equally as tough as the Elite's in Halo 3 ODST, but we still have a bad taste in our mouth, because they were too easy in the original Halo 3. I want to hear me some more "Wort, Wort, Wort." Not Arnold's impression of an Elite speaking English.

Remove humor from the game, because obviously humor doesn't make sense in real life as well, and people don't use humor as an escape from war. We are all serious people, and we are especially serious in war.

I'm not an intrepid mythic member. I am based on the amount of time I've been on the boards, but I've been banned a week or so for various impulsive and accidental spam replies etc. It's a glitch I suppose, and I really shouldn't have the title.

Code of Conduct

I agree to an extent. The cutscene in ODST involving Romeo and a Cheftain was seriouse, brutal, awesome, and had a tint of humor with "Get this thing off of me". More of the game like that please.

I want to move like the Spartans/Elites did in Halo Wars. Just increasing the speed won't add any realism.

Corn, Oil, and Wine... We need more wine...

I completely agree with IGN, and anyone who believes this game should stand up to it's "M" rating...

  • 10.03.2009 2:36 PM PDT

ha, no i didnt say no grunts. just cut the jokes we have heard from the first halo to a minimum. I think ODST did a good job of this, the story line was pretty good in portraying the difficulties and emotions of the ODST. and yes the brutes are better in ODST, but if they are going to put brutes in they need to have some things changed; make em fast, make em strong, make em harder to kill. (the odst guys you play as can just come up to a lone brute and punch him out, while dodging all of his slow punches) in halo ce the elites would kill you with one hit (not a good thing necessarily, but the brutes are supposed to be MUCH more strong)

  • 10.03.2009 2:37 PM PDT

o, and im gonna miss the flood. they're freekin tight, thats one of the only things i disagree with IGN about

If they made the flood more than just zombies, they would be a much better enemy...

So you want to do gigantic back flips when jacking a Wraith? Last time I checked running that fast in general was banned the moment hefty gear and long range projectile weapons, and squad tactics requiring tight fit unit went into fashion. If anything, Halo's slow jogging speed is actually more realistic than the Olympic sprint speed found in Call of Duty 4's sprint button. Also, a sprint button fits more of a stop and pop aim down the sights mentality. Halo's run and gun. So increasing running speed should suffice.

Yes, they would be the Covenant without as much shields. What are those called again? Jackals and Brutes?

If they made the Zombies in Left 4 Dead more than just zombies, they would be a much better enemy.

More realistic for a human. Perhaps Halo and CoD should change running speeds? =)

Some of the suggestions seemed pretty generic to me, with things like 'we want better parter AI, bigger battles, and more weapons' but I do agree with a few of the things they wanted, like making taking away the translation software that was added in Halo 2, I always liked hearing the Elites yell WORT WORT WORT, and it was pretty cool to find out that all the crazy -blam!- the jackals were saying was actually just normal English played backwards. But like I said, most of the list just seemed like stock answers that could be applied to almost any upcoming game.

One thing that wasn't on the list that I'd like to see is the return of Halo CE's health system, and maybe fall damage. I loved that they both came back in some way in ODST, and I think it'd be pretty cool in Reach, make the damage your shield can take closer to CE compared to ODST, and maybe not have falls hurt you as much, but keep the slow down that happened if you fall from too high like in CE.

Probably, but it's developer preference I suppose.

I agree with everything except the flood. I love having to fight the flood in Halo 3 because they're a big challenge and a good change of pace.

I think you're forgetting that the armor they wear actually makes them faster, and since they've intensely trained their whole lives, and had special augmentation, making them run faster would make sense.

Of course, it makes sense. I just don't see a reason for a sprint button. The only buttons open for sprint would be a d-pad button. And we all know how annoying it is to press a button just to talk. All they need to do is increase the default running speed. Make it fast, but not Unreal. We don't want to Quake the foundations that make Halo distinct from the other arcade shooters.

whats wrong with a sprint button? If Halo Reach is based on massive battlefields? why cant we run like in the trailer of starry Night from Halo 3? Aslo Spartans can run up to 60mph or somthing like that am i right? who played Shadow Complex XBLA game here? it should be like that . Hold the button for a while then you go super speed mode, upto 60mph that would be cool, splattering people in the way.
