Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.
Please, read the whole thing before you reply or would like to add something. Onward then.
One of the best additions to the Halo series was theater mode. It was a Machinimators paradise. It was however somewhat limites.
Currently the only console game I can think of that has a better "Machinima Mode" is Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Currently the features in it (As far as I know) are: A green screen, a mode that allows you to talk into your mic, and your character will try to lip sync, and custom character animations.
In Halo I would like it to include all of the above and more (Not really sure what the more is but well everything could always be improved.)
Anyways I would like to hear from you, the community, what this "More" could be. I apologize for not being more creative but well this was just a spur of the moment thought. As you add better and better ideas to this post I will add them to the original post in order for others to see it and give feedback on it. Also if you could find any example of what these modes would look like and what the menus might be, please send them my way.
UPDATE #1: Something that would be a cool idea and that some people were expecting from Halo 3 was the ability to cut and put together various film clips, which would look something like this . Also another idea that would facilitate machinima making and pretty much make it so that you wouldn't have to spenda single dime other than buying the game would be the ability to record your voice while you were playing and thereby negating the need for another microphone. I know I'm missing another major component of the Machinima making process but hopefully it will come to me later.
Another idea, this one sumbitted by Zak Jaskowski was the ability to take off your helmet. I would like to further build on that idea by saying that it would be neat if you could take a picture of yourself with your vision camera and have the SPARTAN under the helmet modeled after you. This would be similar to the system used in Rainbow Six Vegas. This could also be used in the implementation of my previous idea, the one about lip-sync. Keep the ideas coming and hopefully Bungie will put some of them into the final build of the game.
UPDATE #2: Something that would be fantastic as far as atmosphere is concerned would be the ability to add weather effect and lighting to maps. It would be great to make a really moody machinima that included an atmosphere similar to ODST's. Another thing to add to that would be something similar to Forge Filters that could be added in the editing process.
UPDATE #3: This will be a small adittion. An idea that would greatly facilitate action scenes or suspense stories would be adding a bunch of invisible cameras around the map. You would be able to flip through them and allow for a much smoother and cleaner recording quality.
Thanks to Jaron LP for the idea!
UPDATE #4: Earlier I mentioned that you should be able to make custom character animations. This is a great idea but it has another facet of it in order for it to work properly. What I'm talking about are timelines. What I mean by this is that you should be able to time exactly when the character peforms the action. Imagine if you had a brute go up to a marine throw it in the air and punch it in the chest. That would not be possible because well you couldn't control two characters at once. Having the timelines would be extremely helpful. Also it would allow for smoother animations and not so much "jerkiness."
Thanks to Awkard_Zombie and InsaneAlphaBeta for the suggestion!
UPDATE #5: There should be an option that would allow you to change the physic in the game. There should be 3 general settings to start with which could then be tweaked. These 3 settings would be Realistic, Normal, and Ludicrous. Realistic would be similar to what you saw in Grand Theft Auto IV. Normal would of course be normal, and Ludicrous would be a mode in which a grenade would pretty much cause a crate to fly halfway across Valhalla. These could then be tweaked further in order to allow for more realistic "auto-animations."
UPDATE #6: Natal integration could be a huge addition to this mode. You would be able to go into this mode and choose an option in which you would be able to use Natal on one character at a time. This would allow for very realistic and responsive character animations if Natal really is all it's touted out to be. I will admit this idea is fairly limited however the places in which it could be used would be greatly improved. Thanks to BeNzMoVeMeNt for the suggestion.
