now. the point of this is to give an educated guess as to why bungie would put brutes into there next game, halo reach. i am not here to say "OMG iS th3re h4s to be br00t5 in R3ach 0r is n0T GOnn B3 br00ts in rach!" i am tryin to explain my reasoning as to why i believe that not only will we be able to play as brutes in multiplayer but campaign too. my first point will be looking at the timeline of the halo multiplayer and campaigns of the past games.

halo 1: in halo 1, you only played as a spartan in multiplayer and in campaign. the only way you could change your armor is by changing your armor color.

halo 2: in halo 2, bungie decided to add another race to the picture. you could now play as elites, the covenants most infamous warrior. however, they not only added the elites to multiplayer, but to campaign in order to explain the covenant's side of the story and how they became seperatists. elites did not have any advantages or disadvantages from the spartans.

halo 3: in halo 3, bungie decided to broaden the armor spectrum again by adding permutations. permutations allowed you to choose from multiple layouts of spartan and elite armor. these permutations had no effect on the hitbox. it is rumored that bungie was going to add brutes to the multiplayer experience, but was unable to due to time restrictions.

halo reach: as you see, bungie has added new armor to each game and that is why bungie will add either more armor permutations or an entire new race to multiplayer. if they just added new armor permutations it would seem as though they are being repetitive and too much of a copy and paste job. if they added brutes they would also probably make at least 1 campaign mission where you play as them because in every game with elites in them, you were able to play as elites in campaign. my guess is that playing as brutes will lead some backstory into why they are attacking reach and what they think is here. maybe a legendary ending will reveal something new we don't know about reach.

brutes on reach?: there is no definitive proof that brutes were or were not on reach. some people have stated that the prophets did not want the brutes because they were to careless and would destroy some of the sacred items on reach. if they weren't on reach it is possible that they were above reach in some of the covenant cruisers. maybe one or more of the missions will be a covenant cruiser invading a unsc cruiser, and will be played through the eyes of a brute.

I read your post, but I believe that playable Brutes, in both campaign and multiplayer will be plain stupid.

Can you imagine yourself driving in a warthog with a Brute in the passenger seat? Or a Brute trying to rush you with an AR?

Plus, there's no reason as to why Brutes will be around at this time because they were absent at the battle of Reach.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

I dont want to play as brutes.

But options are options.

people probably thought that it would be ridiculous for elites to drive wharthogs and hold human weapons before halo 2, but now we never give it another thought.

plus, joseph staten stated that although the fall of reach was canon, they would change some of it to fit gameplay of halo reach if they must.

You have a point, but Elites are the Covenant counterpart to Spartans, not Brutes. Their shields don't recharge and are alot bigger than Spartans/Elites. Sure, Elites were taller in CE but had to be haunched over and shorter in H2 just to have the same hitbox, but adding in a 3rd model (Brutes) isn't necessary.

In multiplayer very few people will play as them because they look like stupid apes and would get made fun of on live.

Like the Elites, we aren't expecting Brutes, but I'm really positive that they won't be playable this time.

it might be a good idea for campaign but for online o... Brute+Mongoose=........ Br target on wheels :D

Look out.... -boom- (headshot)
I told you to look out, but know, you got in my way, was going to shoot that splaser....

Note: As the Covenant Armada were in the process of glassing the better half of Reach when the Pillar of Autumn made a slip space jump (random vector of course) out of system, with in a few hours(minutes in slip space) they arrived that the first of seven rings. (in all you blew up 2 rings [both same one, just rebuilt] disabled 1 and blew up the Ark) Brutes were not introduced till the final few missions of Halo 2. But before Halo 2 they were introduced in the novel Halo: First Strike where John (Spartan 117) Linda Fred and I forget who else. fought through the Unyielding Hierophant and destroyed half an armada with a single chain reaction. Thus, it is my belief that Brutes shouldn't be used in Halo: Reach for they weren't even mentioned in Halo: Fall of Reach.

i understand your reasoning to why there shouldn't be brutes on reach, but bungie will do anything to make a game "newer". people will buy a "new game" with "new features." if halo odst didn't have anything new it probably wuoldn't have sold as well or would have had to be cheaper

Dom ~ Thread Killer

I wouldn't play as a Brute if the option existed.

Whats CANON?

  • 10.03.2009 7:57 PM PDT

Thier Shielded Power Armor falls off when they have taken enough damage. They don't come back, unlike the shields of Elites and Spartans.

Anyways, Spartans and Elites have about the same strength, making them perfect for multiplayer. Brutes are way stronger.

yah, brutes didn't have armer back then ether so that would be even sillyer

  • 10.03.2009 8:21 PM PDT

???

maybe they'll take out the armor falling off. it's supposed to be on a whole new engine you know

  • 10.03.2009 8:22 PM PDT

AVG

Brutes would be something cool and new to see in mutliplayer, but i doubt many players would play as them, plus unlike spartans/ elites , their armor doesnt recharge, they could probably change the game a little or something, but yea...

and since brutes had no armor back then, maybe bungie could make something like stamina from ODST for playable brutes?

First, your arguing skills suck.

Do you not understand the concept of scaling down the Brute and using it as a skin for multiplayer? It doesn't have to function like a Brute in campaign.

Nothing is necessary.

You could say the same about Elites, who wants to play as a big scaly thing with a -blam!-ed up jaw?

In Soviet Russia, vehicles can last longer that 30 seconds.

In Soviet Russia, cookie win you.

i can't say if brutes wouldn be good for mm cuz of the hit box. but im positive that there will be more spartin armor. i would like to see brutes playable in the game, but fear that the armor would just be the same stuff we got in halo 3 (with odst graphics :]) but i don't think bungie will do that, considering that we have different elite armor. but forget brutes, lets make grunts playable!

On the contrary: They were the ones we fought against on the First Battle of Harvest.

NO, that would make the game appeal to furries
