Ok, I was thinking for a bit and all of a sudden I remembered BF2142's heavy/light armor option. I honestly think in that game either don't matter, your dying after a few bullets either way. But in a game like Halo with shields that could be a lot more useful. An armor option, in the customization spot, so that you can either run faster and take less damage, or run faster and take more. Now, I know that this sounds like it wouldn't make much realism sense, seeing as shields are shields one way or the other, but I've solved that problem too. How about heavy armor is selected by adding a "power pack" that would way a ton. But at the same time, shields get a boost. It wouldn't even have to be visible.
I think that giving that option for a match could really create some new tactics for players, with tanks and runners going at it. And maybe even three options? Light, take 20 bullets and run at 110% speed, medium, 25 and 100%, and heavy 30 and 90%? Each one has it's advantages and disadvantages. Those speeds actually matter. 10% incremements may sound small but if you try that out in Halo 3 you see big differences. Not to mention taking five extra bullets makes you have more time to react. Those bullets are random numbers BTW, just for the example.
How this could play out:
In FFA:
Some heavy players, these guys would probably have the hardest time here. They would be a bit too slow to get strong weapons at the start, but if they get them they have quite a lifespan.
Medium players would play as usual today.
Light players would get snipers and rockets early, and just have to be light on their feet or they go down easy, making those power weapons lack a little.
In Team Games:
Light players run out early and get power weapons. They bring them back to the heavy players.
Medium armors fight as followups to light players, cleaning up stragglers from the first wave.
Heavy players go as fast as they can to get to the battle. When the light players arrive with weapons, they grab them, and keep on their way. When they finally get to the enemy they start acting as minitanks for the other players, and theoretically cover.
Edit:
Now how do we select the armor?
Easy, and useful for changing between rounds. You select light armor by holding down or down on dpad while waiting to spawn and it will say "Light Armor Selected." If you press up it goes to "Heavy Armor Selected." Left and right are both "Medium Armor Selected."
What do you guys think about the idea?
Please answer two things.
1. Do you want the idea in the game or would you prefer the standard one armor way?
2. What do you think about the idea itself? Regardless to whether or not you want it added.
