Subject: Halo Reach Multiplayer Will Be Class Based

The teaser image for reach has all the 5 different typical types of soldier that we see in games, and so strongly suggests a class based multiplayer system. The 5 classes we can see are as follows, from left to right...

Heavy Weapons This is the tallest Spartan and he appears to be carrying some sort of turret or machine gun. Traditionally this class has more health and is far slower but does more damage because of it's larger weapon.

Scout Everybody is saying that this is Kelly. If so that makes this character the fastest and most agile one, ideal for a scout class. The scout traditionally has a higher jump and is only effective at a close to mid range

Soldier In the middle is the Master Chief holding an assault rifle, this is the basic, all purpose soldier class that works at medium range in all situations.

Stealth/Spy Most people agree that this character is Fred, who is famous for using the combat knife, this suggests a stealth/spy class that is capable of camouflage and disguise

Sniper This one is obvious, the character is holding a sniper rifle and most people say this is Linda who is known for sniping ability.

Also, why would Bungie give out a beta for a multiplayer they know works incredibly well, there must be a drastic change. Either with the use of Natal or the class system, or both.

So thats my idea, tell me what you think in this thread.

If this ends up being a Team Fortress game, I'm personally blowing up Bungie Studios.

I think it will be close, I have some more points so I will edit them in

Better stay quiet OP. Suggesting something like this will get you flamed.

While I strongly disagree that those guys there are the Spartans you mentioned, I agree with their basic Squad/Class layout and at this point, if Bungie put out this image and failed to make Reach a class based game, have to say that I'll be pretty disappointed.

Edit: The only snag in the class based system is implementation of Covenant weapons. Unless, one side plays as the Covenant and one side the Humans (notice again, how I say Humans and not Spartans), and the Covenant and Human sides have different classes suited for each faction and that we can pick up loadouts from fallen enemies, and/or there is a custom create a class configuration.

Yh, this is gonna get some serious flaming but I everytime I see that picture it is just more and more obvious that this is gonna be a class based game, it would make a nice change as well

Oh hell yea. Everytime I see it, the same thoughts flow into my head as well and I personally think it'll be fantastic. I wrote up damn extensive way a class based halo could work and got flamed to hell. Pissed me off like crazy as well.

Um... I like Halo? I don't really know what to say. I'm a student at the moment, I hope to become a criminal profiler, and I enjoy pretty much everything as long as it's good.

No, just no. Keep it in the campaign. Make them have their own attributes but keep the multiplayer the way it was while adding many additions to it without changing things too drastically.

Adding many additions without changing things too drastically?

What more can they do? What more can they really do with the Halo gameplay we have now?

NOTHING. Absolutely nothing.

Its time Halo had a change in gameplay style. Bungie can do it. The style can change and yet not change anything too drastically.

C'mon it is obvious, look at the image, if this multiplayer isn't class based I'll eat my hat

Ohhh I SEE!

I guess ODST had class based FireFight right?
A banner means nothing. It provides little details as of now.

ODST's banner does not differentiate its characters in as much of an exaggerated way as this does.

How so? Every charcter in ODST has different armor and weaponry. So does this banner. The only exaggerated thing on the Reach banner is the Spartan and his Chain Gun(Or w/e it turns out to be).

Didn't Bungie say it's not classed based?

Call me old fashion, but halo just wouldnt be halo if it was class based. I mean the best thing about halo's multiplayer is that everyone starts out with the same sheilds and weapons and the best players come out on top.

I find it very hard to believe that Bungie would change the multiplayer that drastically. They would risk losing a lot of fans and players who like the classic halo formula.

EDIT: As for the Beta, each halo game has its own servers (halo 2, and Halo 3). The Halo 3's multiplayer Beta was done mostly for network and server stress testing more than community feedback. I would assume that they are doing the same for Halo: Reach.

I'm looking at the ODST banner and at no point do they show the weapons. Armor colors do not represent class archtypes. The reach banner clearly shows different types of dudes.

I've been playing Halo since I was 7 years old, Halo 1. And I think, as the years hve progressed, Halo's style of gameplay is running stale. Halo 3 is an amazing game but 3 years going on, do you really want to go back to the same old gameplay. At this point should Bungie go back to the standard style, Halo will die. When Halo came out, it took that typical run and gun style gameplay and made it beautifully.

Out Of those games and the games halo had once influenced, Bungie and Halo are the last man standing and if th don't make a change, change the halo style of gameplay and set a new standard for that type of game, regardless the quality of the game, in the longrun, Halo Reach would be a failure and I know or at the very least, hope that Bungie realizes this.

i dont like class

i like halo style multi.

i dont want it to be a cod/bfbc/team fortress 2

i want it to be friggin Halo'

So your saying that if it did happen to be Class Based you'd just toss the game and not try it? People were given the ability to find out if they liked or didn't like things, by TRYING said thing, not by looking at it.

nubba dub scrub in a tub

Since halo 3 I've always thought this could be a big possibility for the next halo game. But I don't like to asssume or get my hopes up, so im just going to wait and see

If Bungie decides to make this a class based game, I swear I'm not going to even touch the game at all.

Not even Campaign.

It just seems to be a stupid idea, and I don't think it would get great reviews.
