Am I the only one that thinks as the Halo games have gone on, Bungie has done less and less to connect us to the characters?
Halo: Combat Evolved
Cortana and Captain Keyes: I cared about them, I didn't want them to die, it was pretty cool to see them pull this off.
Halo 2
Johnson and Miranda: Johnson I got attached to and did like him. Miranda on the other hand, not at all.
Halo 3
Cortana, Miranda and Johnson: Johnson I still cared about, Miranda still not at all, and I lost all care for Cortana during this game. If their way of reminding us of her was those in-game cutscenes, then they did it wrong.
Halo 3: ODST
This was terrible. I cared nothing for the characters except for VERGIL, 'cause he was cute.
So whats been different about the charcters to make people care less? I beleive their unimportance to the games protaganist. Think about it, Keyes was a good guy, always looking out for others, my favourite line of his: "Coming here was reckless, you two should know better than that!... But thanks."
What about Cortana? She was there to help you through Halo: CE, not as much in 2 but still enough. In 3 she was just gone.
Miranda? She meant nothing, to anyone or anything.
Johnson, Master Chiefs (Pretty Much) Only friend. He was always there to say something or do something to lighten things up a little.
ODST's charcters... All they did was make witty, sarcastic remarks and that's about it.
Bungie, I don't know how you did it so right in Halo:CE, but please make us get attached to the characters. If they have to die make us feel sad: Perfect example of this - CoD4s ending was a massive sadface. Please immerse us in the game and make us care for the charcters.
Anyone wanna share their opinion on this?
