I don't know if engineers were in reach, I didn't read the book, so can someone say this could be canon?

Engineers in Reach:

First of all, from ODST we know they wouldn't be walking bombs. Elites respected the squishy things, and would protect them, not harm them.

Second: They could add the element of overshields to elites, and shields to jackals and grunts. This would make our foes much more powerful.

Third: You could place multiple together so they protect each other.

Fourth: They could serve as allies. How? Say you kill the squad after a firefight due to their shields making it harder to kill them. Now what? If the engineer is still alive, it will just float their. Walk up to it and hold RB, or B as in bumper jumper, and you pet it. This makes the engineer friendly to you giving you overshields. It also makes the engineer more important than you to enemies, meaning you have to protect it better. If you killed any other engineers in the squad it flies straight away after the squads dead, making it harder to get an engineer ally if there are multiple there. You could only have one ally at a time for obvious reasons, like you'd get invincibility.

Five: Intel. ONI thinks these guys have plenty of covenant intel, why not a mission where you have to retrieve a few and bring them back to a base for research?

Engineers were an interesting part of ODST. I'd like to see more of them in Reach.

I enjoy fighting them on Chasm Ten on ODST, when they explode and parts go everywhere, the little explosions kill off lots of enemies. I also like having them as allies.

I say bring em in, 100%

Am I the only person who could see some sort of Multiplayer mode being born out of that?

Like KOTH, but instead of a Hill, you have to protect an Engineer to win. In turn the Engineer provides an Overshield, or something.

"Eyes from Death's dream kingdom appear as sunlight on a broken column. There, in Death's other kingdom, walking alone, trembling lips form prayers to broken stone."

Wow, I really agree with pretty much everything you said. The thing about petting them to make them your allies sounds pretty cool. I think they should have armor though, like the armor they have in ODST, except the armor isn't a bomb, just regular armor.

No, oh god no! Those annoying flying things that are impossible to kill and give the covenant overshields deserve to go into room 101...

I like all except 4. I think they would cower in fear. And if they're by themselves they wont bother you, however once shooting starts happening they should get scared.

I refuse to let me comrads down or die even if it means that I must fall to make sure of that.

I would definitely like to have the Engineers in Reach, plus I think they were there anyway I would have to reread the Fall of Reach and get back to you on that

But really am sweet at heart. =)

Yes, Engineers are cannon, I believe they have been in every book.

I'm a photographer. Check my File Share.

Check out my ninja skills.

I'm a little vague on the timeline, but I'm sure that Engineers were first discovered on Reach. I don't know if we would find out enough about them to pet them...

Those things make Firefight a living hell. Whenever I see one I have to scramble and grab a plasma pistol.

Exactly. It gives the PP a use.

Group invites will be treated very poorly because the Care Package is empty.

I love the fourth option.

What could be better than walking up and petting an Engineer?

No. They're annoying.

You're annoying.

And I agree to a certain extent, OP, but they give a constant supply of overshields, which annoyed the crap out of me in ODST. They should only supply a weaker variant of overshield once and move on, not constantly give the enemies overshields. It makes it so annoying to kill them.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME GROUP INVITATIONS

The Halo REACH Script (post thoughts in thread)

Writing Lead of Whisper Studios. Check out Heron!

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

they wernt in halo 1 so they wont b in halo reach
why u ask well simple becuz reach is a PREQUAL so that means it is a BEFORE game to halo 1. and engineers not in halo 1. so they will not b in reach. same with battle rifel and also the hornet.

There is an idea of a Ygidorp, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me, only an entity, something illusory, and though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping you and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable: I simply am not there.

They should be, their in the book.

  • 10.06.2009 6:54 PM PDT

Considering This game takes before Halo 2 and ODST, Humans don't know that Engineers are Covenant slaves, and don't know that they are willing to help them, so I'd say yes until 4 and 5.

SPOILER!

-------------------------

I haven't read the books, so correct me if I'm wrong. My source is the way Dare and the Rookie reacted when they saw Virgil.

END SPOILER

Of course yes!!!!!!
I really like the idea of the engineer pet (if there is that that option I would name mine Steve).
But also, as allies or as enemies their overshield that give to the others should take a little more to recharge.
