Subject: Is Halo: Reach going to be THAT game?

By THAT game, I mean the game that supports such deep story-line and excellent multiplayer that it will finally humble the franchise that is Halo 3. Do you speculate Halo: Reach to be that title? If you do, why? If you don't, why not?

Personally I think it has a good chance, it will "Fall" three years after the release of Halo 3 and with all this anticipation and the achievability of recon armor to all, Halo 3 will die out and become one of the white dwarfs that are now Halo 2 and Halo 1. Halo 3 will also have no new maps added to it's gameplay and that will add to the need of new content that will be fulfilled in Reach.

What do you speculate?

Bungie had better make Halo go out with one hell of a BANG!

I'm personally hoping for it to somehow set itself apart from the former Halo titles. ODST showed that they can change up the formula to a degree with great success. While short ODST offers up some of the best gameplay since CE, and episodic changes in POV works well for the story.

That's because I want it to be an open-ended discussion.

Exalted is considered "the highest" because you can't get any bans or warnings of any kind for quite a long time, which is harder than just being a member for a long time.

What does that mean?? I know plenty of people who still play Halo 1, and Halo 2's matchmaking is still going strong!

Very true, but you don't see idiots pummeling through the Halo 1 and Halo 2 forums talking about lag switches, recon armor, and how they got their achievements offline even though they needed to be online as common as the Halo 3 Forum, now do you? Sure, Halo 1 and 2 are great games and people still play them but they dwarf in comparison to Halo 3.

Halo3's following is caused by it being the current title, nothing more. Halo CE still offers the best gameplay and balance, but it's lack of MM and the fact that it is dated keep people from coming back to it in large droves. Halo2 set the online MP standard, but dumbed down gameplay, flattening the learning curve and broadening the appeal, updated physics and a new coat of paint didn't hurt either.

People will stick with the "newer" title because the general belief is that the current offering is stronger than the previous ones. Look at all of the ipod drones there are. You cannot really tell me that there are leaps and bounds of improvements made when you update models every year!

Unless Reach is such a departure from formula that it pisses off the general fan base, it will overshadow Halo3.

I bolded the weak point, ODST is the current title, but it is dwarfed by Halo 3 because ODST is a good title, but the multiplayer is lacking even though the campaign plays amazingly.

The weak point you bolded is irrelevant, ODST is not the current MM title as it offers no matchmaking. Sorry for not making myself clear on that. ODST is great, but it is not a major title release, it's an expansion. If they did give ODST MM I'm not so sure it would take top spot though. As much as I love it, I personally feel that too many in Halo3 MM are too accustomed to the simplicity offered by the BR, and would get too frustrated with the sharper learning curve of ODST.

Someone said ODST is the current title. That has to be embarrassing. ODST is H3 with the addition of a new campain and figherfight. Not a new game just an expansion.
In a ViDoc I believe Michael Wu states that ODST went from an expansion to a totally new game. Terra Incognita ViDoc, Watch that and then get back to me.

I think that when bungie is making this they will have to incorporate a lot of all the halo games into everything from all the halo games to make it better improving mp and and the campaign story line will be key increasing the learning curve and keeping it the way it is now will be also key to keep the content of the fans. Also they will have to give a lot bigger game in all

Halo 1/ODST Pistol, A combat knife, Halo 3 turret, Halo 2 Sniper, Halo 3 AR, Halo 3 BR... Game would be incorporated into ownage.

Pretty much everything does.

This is the last Bungie-made Halo game. I am expecting a very amazing BANG.

343 Industries is going to make sure Halo keeps going strong. And it will.

This little weapon grouping you have hear really hurts your credibility. The pistol and the BR in the same game? What would the point be?

Remember, cool idea's don't always equal good gameplay. Example, look at the effect dual wielding had.

It is called Halo 3: ODST.

Bungie has been working on it since shortly after Halo 3 released, the only reason ODST was so short and lacking in content was because it was an expansion, entirely conceived in less than a year. Reach is not an expansion thrown together to get us through one more year without another true Halo release. It will be awesome.

Halo 3 came out in 2007, just under a year after the ORIGINAL Gears of War. In the time between then and now Bungie has greatly increased, in size and ability. They have had plenty of experience and I'm sure we won't be disappointed, well almost sure...
