If there's brutes in Reach, Bungie r doin it wrong.
But seriously, I'd be amazed if there was. They might be able to get away with it if "Fall of Reach" hadn't been written, but yeah, not now.Brutes have been in the Covenant since before Harvest was glassed. Just because they don't appear in The Fall of Reach (which was in the time period where Elites were considered the most honorable fighters and were probably the ones that lead squads into "sacred" places, not the destructive Brutes) doesn't mean they weren't actually on the planet. The Fall of Reach was released at the same time Halo: CE was released, of course there were no Brutes in it, they weren't actually shown in the story until Halo 2. It doesn't break the cannon to put them in Halo: Reach. And now you know, the rest of the story.
Of course it wouldn't break canon to bring Brutes in, but maybe we fight them in a Covenant ship, off of the planet.
Well the main argument is that it would break the cannon. I know we shouldn't necessarily fight them on the ground, but maybe, like you said, on a ship or something. Or maybe we could play as another character on another part of the planet fighting the Covenant at some point in the campaign.
