Ok guys, we all know Forge is going to be in this game. It's just that simple. There's no way Bungie can take Forge away from us, it's simply become a part of Halo now. It's given it so much more involvement, so many new maps on Foundry and Sandbox, and even variants of our other maps that shipped with Halo 3. Boxes made into rocket ships, Scarabs and Dinosaurs and Transformers made out of boxes and bricks, race tracks, obstacle courses, man cannon abuse, interlocking, and much more. We all love it, all want it back, but we can't simply get a port of the mode. We want improvements, new features, ways to make forging easier, new types of objects, etc, etc, and etc.

So, what are some major Forge improvements you would like to see present in Halo: Reach?

And example would be a way to use those boxes that contain weapons to actually hold weaponry, like in the campaign modes.

Think of anything. It'll probably start out with things we've all wanted and wished for on the forums, and we soon may get some new ideas that we may have never stumbled upon before. Get creative, have fun with your ideas, and let's try to gather some attention and give Bungie our wishes.

Personally, I think some pretty good improvements could be made.
First, players should be able to edit the time of day and maybe weather. I think that would be pretty cool and would help all the Machinima because it wouldn't be the same map every time in a sense. Second, I think there should be more items to choose from and have balanced UNSC and Covenent items. Lastly, let the maps and forge area's be more larger and customizable. Basically, that's all I could think of right now counting Forge is still awesome now but could be improved. Let's hope they do!

Map Editing, not object placement. I want there to be a "Forge Glue" that binds stuff together, and an unlimited ammount of objects. Also, firefight forge, Computer A.I. bots, object editor, and finally a use for the "D" pad, the left control stick click, and a real use for the right one.

Oh, and EVERY WEAPON ON EVERY MAP!!!
IE: on Halo 3 avalanche, there is no plasma rifle; or on most other maps, for that matter.

i think b should be turned into a "freeze prop" button cuz u can already just drop the prop by pressing a again

Personally, I think an actual "skilled" person in Halo 3 is someone who knows how to win with every weapon and combo in the game, not just a single weapon like the BR, Sniper, or even the AR. Of course, that excludes me, as I have yet to get a kill with dual plasma pistols. :D

I actually have this massive two-post long list of what should be in Reach's Forge, but I can't post it since now it's complaining about "incompatible characters" or something like that. Here's a summary, though -

- Ability to start on a blank map
- A "controller" object on the blank map, with options that change the size of the map, the skybox, the background, the ground, the weather, etc.
- Resizable blocks/balls/cylinders/walls, as well as kill, water, and shield versions of them.
- Multiple textures for pretty much everything, including invisibility.
- The ability to choose what can go through shield doors.
- Team-specific shield doors.
- Regular doors, that can either be opened automatically or assigned to a switch.
- The ability to turn anything intangible, so that it can be placed inside another object or geometry and turned back to normal for easy merging.
- Cameras and viewscreens for said cameras.
- Light sources, with changeable color, direction, effects, and more.
- AI.
- Just for laughs, the ability to fire the monitor laser by pushing down the left thumbstick.
- And more.

They should make a splice tool.
Don't have the exact size of wall and don't want to start new round to put it in place?
Cut a part of it off.

:) That would make me happy.

A 90 degree snap would be great, as well as a "sticky" function where you could just slap things together with no gravity involved (Sorry, Isaac, your theories weren't meant for gaming), but what I REALLY, REALLY want is bodies, wrecks, and craters. I want Reach's maps to be battlefields. Not the Forerunner's flower garden where we jump around for a bit. I want trashed Warthogs, dead everything, wrecked Wraiths, that DON'T disappear. Think of them like terrain. How cool would it be to take cover behind a wall of dead Grunts? Like sandbags!

It would make Host-Only Forge sessions so much more amusing. And you'd get to act out Halo scenes.

Hmmm. I got another idea!!!

How about dead bodies?
Spartan
Marine
Elite
Brute
Cheiftan
Grunt
Jackal
Drone

Placeable with snaps on each arm, hand and leg.

So if you want their leg to be one way grab the snap and move it without the whole body moving.

Introduction of proper rules into forge play - nobody plays forge seriously or at least they don't for very long.A Forge gametype with rules(maybe take it in turns to be Monitor or something) would be unbeatable like it should have been all along - aside from the mostly excellent editor Bungie did drop the ball a little with Forge

Even though Multi Halo's multplayer is pretty much tops, Forge should have destroyed all multi player shooters if they made it a game type

Much was made of this incredible mode by Bungie when they talked about spectacular situations - Scorpian, bubble shield, Spartan Laser scenario. But because there really aren't any rules as such, all anybody does is mess about after so long - it really was a wasted opportunity by Bungie

Bungie is awesome but sort it out guys and you will distance yourself even further from the competition

I also don't understand why we can't drop our own Covenant into these maps now.Firefight would seem to prove AI can work in these maps and Bungie's refusal to allow us this pleasure is very frustrating. What's the deal guys?.Much is always made of how your AI can't adapt but i call bs

...what? You make it sound like Forge is suppose to be a versus mode. Forge is made so we can edit maps and play on them in Custom Games, and Matchmaking if they become popular enough and Bungie adds it in. It's not suppose to be competitive or have rules to make it "fair", as I fail to see how this would benefit the point of Forge at all in any way.

  • 10.06.2009 2:42 PM PDT

Forge is great at that but it's actually what Bungie proposed it would also be like with this very idea in mind - "mother of all multi shooters" if i have recalled correctly

I don't mean to be rude but yes you have failed to see the potential here. It's all quite possible to do this stuff now but without proper rules, nobody bothers.A gametype would force this should you choose and that's what it's missing.Bungie knows this already i'm sure

That was suppose to be Halo's multiplayer, not Forge mode...sigh. Forget it. You obviously don't understand what I'm trying to explain here.

  • 10.06.2009 2:47 PM PDT

Yes clearly

  • 10.06.2009 2:54 PM PDT

Of course Forge is it's own thing that is entirely different but i'm talking about how this mode is not also a Multiplayer gametype like it should be

No doubt Bungie will put this right for Reach

Ohh I see what you mean, you want the normal forge AND a versus variant of forge. I thought you meant Forge should be a versus mode all together. Well I guess that idea does sound pretty cool. Maybe Bungie will try this somehow. I can't see it happening though, honestly :\ I feel a lot of people would find it pointless and would prefer the normal multiplayer.

  • 10.06.2009 3:24 PM PDT

I think it's a hard mode to imagine for some which is why it wouldn't maybe appeal at first, but with game rules invented by Bungie as an actual game type(not while merely invented in custom mode with friends etc as these games very quickly get boring without a real set of rules) then it would likely start to appeal much more

I'd like for more accurate placing of items within the actual editor mode as although quite understandably Forge is like it is currently, it would be a shame if Forge2 shared the same frustrating jittery systen

Nothing really comes close to Forge i reckon for it's potential and it would be nice to see how Forge2 furthers this.As you mention, it's surely already figured into Bungie's Reach plan

Great idea, but I can see this being abused already.
