I know a lot of people enjoy Halo's multiplayer, but it will get boring after 3 sequels. I mean, Halo 3's multiplayer was incredibly similar to Halo 2's multiplayer, apart from the small changes. I'm not saying that Halo's multiplayer is bad, I'm just saying that it will get boring.
Here's an idea on how to change it up. Not exactly classes, but it would add more variety to the game.
We all know customization is a very popular and great thing for multiplayer. Why do you think the Call of Duty series is so successful? Because of the Create-A-Class system. Without it, the game gets downright boring. So this is how I thought it might work for Halo:
I'll start off with the new feature, weight. That's right. It would be something like this - you can hold up to 10 blocks of space. Each weapon is worth a certain amount of blocks.
Example: The Assault rifle would be 5 blocks, and the Magnum would be 2. That leaves 3 blocks for equipment, or whatever. I'm just brainstorming.
How the class system would work:
Players are able to choose what weapons to start out with, however, they would not be able to choose the power weapons ex. Spartan Laser, Rockets, ect.
Your first weapon would be a Primary weapon. This would be your standard two handed weapon such as the AR or BR
Your second weapon would be your Secondary weapon. This weapon would be any of the weapons that you are able to dual-wield. Ex. SMG, Pistol, ect.
Now, you would have to take the weight / blocks into concideration. For example, the Sniper might be 7 blocks, so you will only be able to use the pistol (2 blocks) for that combo.
Now things aren't quite balanced YET. Now comes the hard part. Making the Class system work.
We the basic classes would be Sniper, Trooper, CQB, Scout / Recon, and Heavy Weapons.
Each class would have certain specialties and weaknesses. For example, The Heavy Weapons class would be able to carry more blocks, therefore being able to swap out their primary weapon for Rockets, without losing their secondary weapon. Like if a Sniper was to pick up rockets, they would have to switch out their primary and secondary weapon. Make sense?
It could work if they made each class work for only their specialty.
Example: A CQB would do more damage in close combat than a Sniper in close combat, because it would be their specialty.
Now I know you must be thinking, Everyone will just start with snipers and no-scope, this is totally imbalanced. Wrong! The sniper will exceed in what it does best, which is long range. So if it was a Sniper going against someone with a Medium range weapon, then the Player with the Medium range weapon would be at an advantage.
I won't go into how armor would work for each class, so tell me what you guys think of this.
P.S. No "This is Halo not Call of Duty Bk" because I realized that. I just brainstormed these so cut me some slack.
I know it's a long read but thank you to the people who do read it.
I say no
I thought about giving an intelligent reason as to why not.
1. I dont want to see the formula that has made this my favorite game change... that would not make it my favorite game anymore
2. I thought if not the whole game what about a playlist called "class" (I though hey I would play it once in a while) But then I thought of why it could not work.
To make a good class game you would have to redesign many of the maps to make picking the different classes balanced. Big open spaces combined with enclosed spaces.
Bungie has always made their maps about weapon control. You could make maps just for class...but I wouldnt want them to waste space, time, and effort. On these maps when they could make maps that I would play more overall in the regular playlist
3. I feel a spartan is a jack of all trades and walking past a weapon and not being able to pick it up because of my alloted blocks doesnt feel exactly right
I honestly like your proposal though. I wish Halo games had infinite space on the disk and 4 times the amount of people working on it (i know they already have a big staff but they are all crucialy needed)
If that fantasy could come true then I would welcome the extra variety to the game
