It suprises me how many 9-year olds there are on this forum.

Spartans are much better.

This sig will Self-Destruct in 3.... 2.... 1.... Thank you for your time. Cookie?

Games mechanics aside, there have been multiple instances in canon where Spartans have 1uped the ODSTs. For instances...

Battle of the Flood-controlled Shield World, where Blue Team (of Halo Wars) manages to take out an entire honor escort of Elites. Easily. Granted, Forge gets the finishing blow on the Arbiter himself, but we can probably guess that an ODST wouldn't be able to finish off Elites as easily as they did.

Raid on the Third Fleet of Glorious Consequence, where a team of five Spartans on Booster Frames, which is basically a poor-man's equivalent of a Sabre, single-handedly drill through a Covenant fleet and recover Halsey, who had been taken captive following a battle that had taken place in one of the novels.

One of the final moments of Halo: Reach. *SPOILERS*, btw, and honestly, need I say more about that one?

Honestly, one Spartan alone could probably take a good platoon of ODSTs. ... With a pistol.

Honestly they have about the same amount of training. Spartans are no more skilled than an ODST. The armor they wear however gives them a huge advantage over an ODST. With out the armor they are no better soldiers than the rest of humanity.

Johnson was a SPARTAN 1.1, not a fully fledged SPARTAN. I would explain but I don't have the time. Just look it up on Halopedia.com, it's a pretty accurate site.
Do Marines start their training at the age of 6?? No.
Do Spartans start their training at the age of 6?? Yes.

Probably the only living marine out theyre that has more combat experience then a Spartan is Johnson, but i don't see a giant army of Johnsons hopping arround xD

i think an army of Johnsons would be alot scarier than an army of spartans coming at you.

Johnson is a Spartan, he was part of the ORION Project.

Johnson was a SPARTAN 1.1, a branch of the ORION Project, but he was not a fully fledged SPARTAN.

regardless of what johhnson is, he's more awesome than odst's and spartans combined.
thats just how bad-ass he is.

No soldier should be honored for doing what is expected
of him. He is after all, just doing his job.

This is like comparing apple to oranges really, they are both in a whole different spectrum.

If you people remember Fall of Reach and the graphic novel, squads of ODSTs were used as training tools for the Spartan armor testing, and they got pretty damn beat up.
In Ghosts of Onyx, one of the Admirals remarked that the funding for Spartan IIs can build an entire fleet battle group from scratch.

As much as I love Helljumpers, Spartans tank can them all. Troopers in the end are just highly trained men and women with fancy kit & armor, while the Spartans are VERY HIGHLY TRAINED and biologically enhanced, as well as getting even BETTER kit than the ODSTs.

Many dark and insidious matters reside in my mind. Only a few leak into the conscious realm.

A tormented soul, like you.

in the fiction of halo, spartans would completely destroy odsts. its like comparing a human to an ant.

How about ask Bungie ?? Which soldier will be better and
more awesome XD....

Spartans are superior to ODST's in every way but numbers, but I'll still take an ODST over a spartan any day. Hell, I'll take a normal marine over a Spartan. The whole perfect super soldier story has gotten stale after 10 years.

actually the spartans had augmentations that allowed them to lift three times their own weight, they could see in the dark and they have had their bones and neural reflexes enhanced. by the time an odst even reaches for his holster the spartan would have had time to rip of his limbs and rearrange them so he looks inbred(that is an obvious exaggeration and dont even get me started on the armour)

- Only a few hundred (343 Spartans alive at the end of the war.

where the H*&^ did you get that estimate from?

  • 03.20.2011 4:12 AM PDT

Love Bungie.

It might be an constant battle but the Spartans are still better so they'd win.

Otherwise UNSC could just send out ODST on all fronts and win the Covie/Human war.... There's a reason they needed spartans.

I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all.

This forum is basically like saying Rookie vs Mastercheif, the obvious winner is the Spartans.

Jonah and Roland died, however I forgot to add Tom and Lucy into the list so we have 346 Spartans left.

If a Spartan wanted to, it really could rip limbs off an ODST. They are genetically enhanced.

Where to begin...lets see.

For starters they are not genetically enhanced. They are selected for a spesific genetic marker.

Secondly that marker could be anything. Millions of humans have the possability of having it. They arent so special.

Spartans. Cos we all know John-117 kicked 37 different kinds of shi* out of the ODST's from the books. LOL

1: The first fight was orders. Those ODSTs were orderd to pick a fight with him with out knowing who he was, what he was or why he was even on the vessel in the first place. Lack of knowledge lead to poor judgement. Thus a loss.

2: Second fight was against the new Mark V armor. That armor gives any soldier a huge advantage over their opponents. Not an equal fight.

1. Yes they are genetically enhanced, please know your facts before you post.

2. Doesn't matter the ODSTs didn't know who he was, 4 of them still lost to one of him.

Vaulting, those are very good Statements. But i'm not really understanding your cause.

Regular Marines and ODSTs held the line for 27 years on the ground in every combat action against the Covenant. Even in Halo CE's timeline ODSTs and Marines set up an actual base on the ring and successfully excecuted an excape plan of stealing a CCS-class Battle Crusier and took off from the ring. Only an ODST who understood what the Flood was about changed their survival.

She took out the drive lines of that vessel and forced it to crash back onto the ring, blowing up in the process.

And yes those Marines and ODSTs survived several attacks from the Flood and managed to capture one alive. More than what Spartan-117 did.

Point being they did the work during the war. Spartans played a very small part in it. More or less dropping in a nuke in a good spot then running away. Either that or helping evac civilians from a planet under siege. Thats under the cover of the Marines and ODSTs.

They did more for the war that the Spartans did up to Halo CE. And then it was only one single Spartan who managed to save the galaxy (once on his own and another time with the help of the Flood/Marines/ODSTs/Elites/Arbiter). And even then he nearly was turned into a Flood himself during those events. If it werent for Cortana there wouldnt be a Spartan-117 after Halo CE.

You sound like Major Silva.

It's not Hip-Hop, its Electro.... prick.

There are a lot more ODSTs then there are Spartans. I imagine a battle in an open field would result in an ODST victory. Simply because of numbers and guns. Plus, ODSTs have some badasses too :)

But of course, funneling ODSTs into a small building full of Spartans armed to the teeth would be a very very bad idea.

  • 03.25.2011 6:24 PM PDT

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

Read The Fall of Reach.
John-117 whooped ODST asses....TWICE.
Once when he was 14 and was wearing nothing but boxers.
The other time was when he was wearing his Mark V armor.

Try not to cry when i kill you. : ]
Cant wait for Reach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ODSTs need drop pods to enter a planet. Do Spartans? No.
