Vaulting Frog, we all appreciate the fact that you've bought each book 3 times, however your knowledge is wrong, and your know it all persona and extremely lengthy arguments are not becoming any use to you. Many in this thread had cited true facts from the books that you choose to disregard or argue against.
What facts? The only fact that was presented was that a single Spartan-II recruit beat up 4 ODSTs during the training phase. Thats it. And even then there are reasons for why that happend.
People have constantly said that they were geneticly manipulated yet provide no proof of such actions.
For the most part I agree that a Spartan is a superior soldier, but only inside their armor. With out that armor they would be no better off than ODSTs in a combat situation. Just as vunerable. They are faster on foot, that is true however that is not a sustainable speed. It is a burst speed. Even says it in the book Fall of Reach, page 73, paragraph 11 (from memory).
And people have also said that the war would have been lost long before the events of the Halo games if it werent for the Spartans. There are only two instances where this is correct, one is Grey Team (though they didnt do a whole lot of damage during the war period) and the other is the Spartan-III program. However that doesnt reflect at all on this comparison as it is obviously between Spartan-IIs and ODSTs.
For the most part during the war it was the UNSC Navy and the Marines who held the line on every planet. They are the real reason as to why the war lasted so long. They fought long and hard and through their actions Humanity was surviving.
Just read through the Spartan-II missions. Their priority was setting nukes in Covenant positions where a normal attack was deemed unfit. They were also given escort missions for civilians. For the most part they didnt do a whole lot to win the war. Only Spartan-117 got anywhere in that reguard, but that was more of luck than anything else.

I'm sure many people here would agree that you are WRONG. You are entitled to your own opinion, but how can an ODST be a better soldier than a Spartan?
I am sure many people here would feel that you are wrong. It is a matter of personal preference.
I do reconize the Spartan-II programs achievements however they are small when compared to the Marines, Navy or ODSTs. They just didnt play that large of a roll in the war. Mostly due to the amount of them around. If they were in large numbers then sure they would have done something significant (discounting the Halo CE-3 events) to win the war. But they werent.
That is why I feel ODSTs are superior. They do have the numbers, are just as skilled in combat as a Spartan and have the will to succeed. And they do it with out augmentations or any "fancy armor".
Given the choice I would take my ODSTs to war and leave the Spartans behind.

One more thing, often when you reference ODSTs, you mention them in squads or groups, not as lone soldiers.
Do the Spartans not act in the same manor? They always travel in squads or "teams". The only exception, and I do mean only, is Spartan-117. But that was not by choice. His unit was left on Reach and the two members of his team from the orbital mission were killed (Linda was later revived). That ment he was forced to act on his own, atleast until he linked up with the Marines and ODSTs on Installation 04. From then on the majority of his missions were with Marine/ODST support. The only time he went with out them is when he was either:
1: Ordered to go on ahead (such as the rescue of Captain Keyes).
2: Let his Marine/ODST team mates die (Silent Cartographer mission, book The Flood).
The last objective of that combat action was a personal choice of his and Cortanas. They did contact the rest of the Marines and ODSTs and formulated a plan of action on how to get off the ring. So even that was done in parallel with the Marines.
Halo 2 and 3 were very similar in terms of support.
Point being, they operate vertually the exact same.
