Personally i think ODST's are better. They represent humans and how we have courage to face anything that comes our way. I just think of spartans as a terrible way to represent humans. ODST's don't depend on shields to protect themselves, but the environment, cunning, and wit ( Yes i know spartans have all of this and do this but still...) Plus ODST's can have a sense of humor! U know? "hahaha"?

John 117 fought a squad of odsts who were in full armor while he was only wearing his boxers. He killed all of them.

When did this happen? which book?

In the Fall of Reach.

BUT BUT BUT BUT

you are wrong sir. He was testing the new MJOLNIR armor in that sequence. He had a distinct advantage.

If I'm not mistaken, Spartan II candidate training lasted about 11 years. I'm pretty sure ODST training isn't 11 years long.

Length of training isnt an issue. What you have discounted is that ODSTs go through Standard Marine training and ODST training. Two completely seperate programs with different levels of intensity.

Not to mention the actual combat experience they all have before even going through that second round of training. That gives them a huge edge on the Spartans.

Posted by: ZundayXx
Do Marines start their training at the age of 6?? No.
Do Spartans start their training at the age of 6?? Yes.

Probably the only living marine out theyre that has more combat experience then a Spartan is Johnson, but i don't see a giant army of Johnsons hopping arround xD

Do they need to start at age 6? No they most certainly dont.

The Spartan training program is no more intense than a standard Marines training program. Just drawn out longer. It builds a fight reflex into their minds but that can be accomplished over a period of months not years.

The only reason their training program went on as long as it did was due to the length of development the augmentations required as well as developing their armor suits. That takes the majority of the time. They were combat ready in a year or less in reality.

Same as any Marine.

This is almost insulting. If you read full of reach, you would know 75 8 year olds were dropped off in the woods by the Unsc, survived two days and were attacked by 6 trained marines??? Oh dear... won that fight.

Anyway Spartan training was very intense!!! By fall of reach the Spartan 2's are roughly 41, and I think the gamma team is in there mid twenties. Now if Spartan 2's are anything like spartan 3's then straight after augmentation they are sent on REAL missions, like taking down rebel bases Etc.

Do they need to start at the age of 6? No, but it hardens them, they are more sturdy and have less emotional ties.

Master Chief beat the -Blam- out of some ODSTs when he was a teenager. Even killed one or two in the fight. I still like the ODSTs better, though.

Oh not this -blam!- again....

More ODST's than SPARTAN's = more in an ODST squad = more guns = more weapons on target = more dead enemies.

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

Umm Spartans? They can lift over 1 ton WITHOUT the Mjolnir armor on. and in Fall of Reach MC on 2 seperate occasions beat 3 ODSTs in hand to hand combat without his armor and again beat an entire squad of 10 in his Mk V armor without weapons when they had fully loaded Assault Rifles

Spartans would win

  • 02.04.2010 9:02 PM PDT

(((>+ Cliipsz_Loc +<)))

In truth there would have to be multiple tests to prove which is better.Hand to hand combat Without armour, Armed combat (with armour henced ARMED) strategy effectiveness, and overall succes rates.

I pick no sides but highly doubt ODST's would prove the better.

I would have to say I prefer Spartans. Mostly because I think it's interesting how they were trained at age six to kill.

So both have to have no armor?

Spartans would win, but I like playing as an ODST because it is more realistic

Peve's right they have sense of humour unlike spartans.Lemme say spartans are -blam!-'s because they have their energy shields and stuff ODST' dont they are more tactical.

Become the hunter.

I find this to be a very unfair match up. I am also amused by how sure people are about the intensity and effectiveness of different training programs in the (fictional mind you) Halo universe.

Anyone who trys to say ODST's are better than spartans because spartans have the armour is not thinking straight.
1)Spartans are trained in every aspect of combat from the age of six.
2)Spartans have been augmented with enhancements that increase overall strength in combat
Alone these two reasons cause Spartans to be much better than ODST's in combat if anyone disagrees than you can't reason.
Now the one thing I like about ODST's is they do orbital drops, but so would spartans if they could afford to lose one.

  • 02.05.2010 10:57 PM PDT

I have seen spartans punch through harder things than flimsy ODST armor. Spartans can also dual wield and ODSTs can't.

  • 02.06.2010 9:22 AM PDT

I blame stosh for me not having a awesome Signature.

John killed 3 ODSTs.

They were picking on him. He defended himself.

  • 02.06.2010 9:37 AM PDT

ODSTs are cooler, however SPARTANS are infinitely superior:

1) Spartans are genetically modified and on various performance enhancers.
2) Spartans have shielded armor.
3) Spartans can duel wield.
4) In one of the Halo novels, a scene is depicted where John-117 fights some ODSTs over a skirmish in a training room over a pin John took out of a weight machine. Consequently, the machine didn't work when an ODST tried to use it. John singlehandedly killed them ALL.

  • 02.06.2010 10:35 AM PDT

the odsts are pretty much the special forces of the marine corps. you have to be the best of the best to join them.

spartans are 6 year old kids that were taken from their parrents, given steriods and cool armor, and told to run around and kill people

ODST's win

  • 02.06.2010 11:12 AM PDT

Spartans beat ODSTs.

  • 02.06.2010 1:34 PM PDT

It's funny how in the games ODST and Halo 3 the ODSTs can take 2 Sniper Rifle bullets to the head, whereas Spartans can only take one before falling over dead.

This is just from a gameplay standpoint, of course.
But I still think it's pretty funny how much of a beating the ODSTs can take compared to Spartans.

This has to be the dumbest post ever. ODST's are no match for Spartans. I'm sure this has been said, but spartans were taken as children, taught to survive/fight and mutated into a stronger being.

Hell chief took on 3 odst's when he was like 13, killed most of them.

edit- If I had read 2 posts above I would of seen this was already posted.

Steroids are a bit of an understatement lol.

edit again- Spartans were really never allowed to use live ammo against odsts, and the only time they were killed is when 3 of them attacked master chief before he was master while he was working out. He saw them as an actual threat and killed 2 out of 3 if I remember correctly.

-------------------------

In no way are odst's more tacticle(spell)then spartans. It's not like spartans just run in the middle of everything and shoot, if you have read the books, they were trained extensively. Most of their training/missions odsts could of never done solely due to the spartans tactics.

Striking meatless fear into the hearts of thousands, Jimmy The Torso un-relentlessly preys on the innocent with his bony ribcage of terror.

I thought of the ultimate hybrid!

Imagine a Spartan... wearing an ODST helmet!!!

Oh wait, they already exist, guess that settles this argument

The cool look of the ODST with the power of a Spartan

There are rumors that Sgt. Johnson was just an initial archetype of the beginning Spartan project. Correct me if I'm wrong.
