Subject: sniper scope

i hate it when im trying to use the sniper rifle and when i get shot at it makes my scope go off. i try to turn my scope back on but i keep on getting hit so my scope keeps on going off. i dont know why that happens or what purpose it serves. i cant defend my self as a sniper if i cant use my scope (im not even going to try to get a no scope.) its especially bad on large maps like valhalla or sandtrap and a guy with a br shoots me from a distance well beyond the br's supposed mid range. i hope bungie makes it where your scope doesnt go off when you get shot in halo: reach

Well it makes it easier to know you're getting shot if you scope-out.

  • 10.07.2009 6:54 AM PDT

all bungie would have to do is add a red flash to the side of the screen depending on the direction i get shot or something. it certainly doesnt help if my scope doesnt work every time i get shot at though

IM A LEGIT 16

That would make the sniper overpowered and skilless.

Shoot someone before they shoot you, or don't use the sniper.

  • 10.07.2009 7:00 AM PDT

no, that would just make it where i can actually shoot back at the guy who shooting at me hundreds of feet away

yeagh, this serves the purpose called "balance."

Bungie has said it before. they suggest that when going up against a sniper, you should shoot them with br to make them scope out and miss. otherwise sniper would get a kill for every bullet in the mag and thats unfair. this also helps keep snipers moving instead of camping.

it kinda sucks if you aim your sniper by swipe-shotting like me, but whatever. im still really good with it when i set up a patrol, it keeps me from camping and being spotted. try it.

Part of sniping is the term that you are squishy and vulnerable during the act. When you're caught with your metaphorical pants metaphorically down, they try and make it momentarily baffling as you're forced out of your zone. Does that bother you? It should, it's a pain. But so is getting sneak-attacked.

The suggestion to remove this is like padding the corners. I think we have enough soft cornering to Halo as it is. Snipers work fine as they do, and sniping works fine as it is.

in the end, most of the stuff people will post on this forum, their "suggestions" have already been thought of by bungie. the only difference between you and them is that they have the means necessary to test this and they already have tested almost 98% of the stuff thats been said.

This sniper scope out deal wasn't an issue in halo 2 and 1 becuase it wasn't present there. why? becuase its a different game. keep in mind all the different weapons and equipment added as the seiries progressed. br and dual weilding and equipment and new grenades all contribute. these are the same reasons why the halo 1 magnum isnt comming back. (at least without phasing out the br like in odst)

"It wasn't the Chief's job to make things suffer - he was just here to win battles. Whatever it took." (FoR, p.6)

It's called balance.

If you didn't get kicked out of the scope it would be extremely easy to snipe anyone attacking you and you would be pretty much invincible at long range until you ran out of ammo. Bungie specifically added this feature to give people a chance to defend themselves from campers like you.

Either get better at no scoping or start remembering that you have a secondary weapon/grenades/equipment for just this purpose.

There was a Sniper Scope in Halo 1 and 2 that would loose zoom when you got shot. There was a BR in Halo 2.

The loss of zoom is a balance thing, as somebody said earyer. There was never a problem with this because everyone understands that losing zoom is a balance thing a and a skill thing.

  • 10.07.2009 8:01 AM PDT

i dont see how that would balance it out. it just means i cant use my weapon effectively because im being shot at every two seconds.

besides the game is alread balanced with snipers. it can take skill to get a head shot. if theres a pesky sniper then use a combination of stealth and team work to take out the sniper. also its balanced cause a warthog can just come along and screw up the sniper

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

This.

Not to mention that the sniper rifle would be ridiculously overpowered if you could stay in scope while someone was shooting you. I don't get how you can complain about this feature. It was put in the game so people can defend themselves at long range. Its not like at the distance you said you were at the BR wielder was going to be killing you with the BR, only defending himself from being killed.

  • 10.07.2009 8:16 AM PDT

if got to keep your scope on while yours taking damage, that wouldnt make it unbalanced. it would mean you would be able to aim your weapon properly without having it disappear every two seconds

  • 10.07.2009 8:23 AM PDT

ok i have the solution kill your enemy before they have the chance to shoot at you, problem solved

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

Something needs to happen when you get shot. You should not be able to just stand there perfectly still and take shots while you scope into your target.

If you didn't go unscoped there should be some sort of shaking that would allow you on a lucky shot to still snipe while scoped in.

  • 10.07.2009 9:24 AM PDT

It would be way overpowered.

See you on the battlefield.

Maybe you lose scope when you are shot at to let you know that it's time to find cover, instead of just standing there wondering why your scope doesn't work.

Nihilism (from the Latin nihil, nothing) is a philosophical position that argues that existence is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value.

Put simply in the words of Nietzsche as "the will to nothingness".

Next thing you know he'll complain about getting de-scoped when he is in a BR duel.

You descoped when you were shot in Halo CE.
You descoped when you were shot in Halo 2.
You descoped when you were shot in Halo 3.
You descoped when you were shot in Halo 3: ODST.

Its been almost eight years since Halo CE came out. Eight long years that Bungie has had to reflect on their game design. And guess what? You're not the first person who has complained that their sniper rifle is not a god weapon. Don't you think that if Bungie was really going to change this mechanic, they would have done it in one of the previous games?

I have to say i'm with everyone else on this. The sniper would be ridiculously easy to use if you weren't scoped-out every time that you were shot. It's there to give those who don't have a Sniper Rifle a chance to retaliate.

  • 10.07.2009 9:56 AM PDT

you can retaliate like i said. use a combination of stealth and team work. or just drive a warthog with a gunner by the sniper, the sniper wouldnt stand a chance

Sure, stealth and team work is eventually needed to close the gap between you and the sniper so you can kill him, but being able to knock him out of his scope and make his job much harder helps a hell of a lot too. Buys you time.

You try killing snipers on Vahalla without firing a single bullet until you get the length of the pelican away from them. Tell me how that works out.

hopefully when i go over to the halo reach forums on the xbox web site the people over there will understand what i post. maybe they have played nearly several thousand matches over the span of three xbox live accounts and would understand my problem of not being able to use my sniper rifle scope while under fire.

We understand what you are saying. And we gave some pretty good explanations on why it won't happen. This isn't a support group, this is an internet forum. Someone over there will hopefully bring up the same points as well.

I mean, think about it this way. It takes four BR shots to kill, right? If I don't get knocked out of my scope if I'm hit, I can just calmly aim my sniper at the head and kill him before he can get the four shots off. I could do this not only at long range, but medium range and even close range. The Sniper becomes overpowered as a result.

yes but you cant effectively fire back on the enemy. the problem the thing i hate. there will be a guy a good distance away from me chipping away at my shields and i cant even shoot back
