Subject: What should be done with the Aim-Assist?

The internet is a bad place.

This might sound strange, but i feel like the aim-assist confuses my aim.
Since Halo:Reach is going to use a completely new engine and all, maybe they could add an option of turning it off?

I'd like to hear your opinions.

I say get rid of it entirely. I hate it. It screws up my aim more than it does assist. I'll be targeting some yahoo running through Valhalla about to score a headshot and uh oh a mongoose drove by and my reticle starts following them. Stupid reticle thats not what I'm trying to do. I say, obey me reticle! but it doesn't respond:(

Nihilism (from the Latin nihil, nothing) is a philosophical position that argues that existence is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value.

Put simply in the words of Nietzsche as "the will to nothingness".

Yeah without the aim assist melees would be decreased in power, hell yes burn the -blam!-!

Aim assist helps A LOT. If it were taken away, you would notice.

You'd think so,but for me this is not the case.
My friend and i were screwing around in campaign, trying to kill eachother, and ofcourse it took adjusting.

But after a while it felt much more natural then with aim assist.

If you read this, you've wasted a few seconds of your life.

have you ever tried to betray someone with the BR or any other weapen? I say it is much easier to kill an enemy than your teammate and you know why? Aimassist.

This. Aim Assist actually helps you more than you know.

The internet is a bad place.

Ofcourse your opinion can be diffrent from mine.
But,there are also people that don't like the aim assist.
Thats why i would like it to be optional.

Tone it down a little bit, make it optional for those who don't want it.

I am flatterd that you botherd to look at my signature.

what if it was a minor aim assist? like it could only track for so long and so far? in halo three it can almost entirely turn you around...what if it on nudged you in the derrection slightly.. not anoof to be to big of a problem but just anof to aid in aim slightly.(not to much though because aiming is a skill it shouldent be a lock on feture)

My troll sense is tingling.

Wha? New engine? When did this happen? Is it Unreal?

And I say remove it.

Aim assist that is.

Why in the world would Bungie use Unreal? Unreal is not a very good engine especially if you are running it for a Triple A brand like Halo.

Aim Assist is needed. Halo would play totally different without a form of Aim Assist and Magnetism.

The Melee for one would be very difficult.

  • 10.07.2009 11:33 AM PDT

I say keep it as it is, maybe program it in such a way that will keep it from screwing up your aim when an enemy crosses your reticle.

  • 10.07.2009 11:38 AM PDT

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I think aim-assist is what helps out Halo in terms of a console-FPS so much. It makes it easier for a player to control what they're aiming at with a thumb-stick, since console controllers are inherently less precise than your keyboard-and-mouse for computers.

However, I think it's a little too much in Halo 3 (and was even "worse" in Halo 2). I don't really like trying to scope-shoot someone, only to have another enemy run across my field of vision and draw my sights away from the person I almost had killed. But if you take the aim-assist away completely, fighting an enemy becomes exactly like trying to kill a teammate; it's difficult enough to make the gameplay not fun after a while. Constantly over-correcting your aim and missing your shots... (and no, your arguments for "those with skill can still do well" will not hold up, and I'll argue my side of the coin if anyone disagrees)

Having the option to turn it off would be a waste of time. I believe that if the option was there, people would learn quickly that leaving the assist on will be better. It would be time spent coding an option that people won't use. In other words, time wasted. I'd rather see Bungie polish something else than spend time on that.

So if there was a way to make it so that you don't auto-track a target interrupting your current target, that would be ideal. And maybe toning down the magnetism when scoping in (at least with snipers) would be a good thing to do.

Either rework aim assist so your aim isn't messed up every time an enemy walks in front of you, or have an option for different levels of aim assist (none, low, medium, high, very high).

I'm a pretty laid-back guy, loves to have fun with friends and play Halo. Add me if you like and we can do some Firefight or Matchamking. Willing to help with anything. Thanks! :)

I think that the aim-assist messes up my aim because i'm trying to snipe multiple people, I get one, and then I aim for another guy, and I shoot too early so it can get really frustrating and waste ammo. The only good thing for aim-assist I personally believe would be for the BR. It makes sense.
Keep it clean! :)

no it is like a magnet of sort..it simply attracts you rectical to the target.. it assists it dosent aim for you.

sometimes it is to powerfull and you lose control and it screws you up.. thats why it would be nice if it were simply reduced in power.

  • 10.07.2009 11:58 AM PDT

oh thats happened to me before. like on the pitt ill be shooting a guy and then another guy jumps past me and my cross hairs move a little bit to the side

  • 10.07.2009 12:16 PM PDT

Halo 1 aim assist anyone? Go play halo 2 and 3, then go play CE and you'll notice a huge difference. Just enough aim assist to do the job, but not to the obnoxious level it's at in Halo 2 and 3.

Yep it's great. None of that obnoxious heat-seaking jerky lunge crap that has been in every Halo game since.
