Well, before I go on a rant, I just want to say this is my opinion. Not forcing it on anyone...
Ok, for starters, the health system in Halo CE makes the most sense out of anything. If you get shot with no shields, your going to hurt like hell, but your not going to fall over like a panzy. In order to get back in the fight, you gotta fix your holes. So, you find a medkit. Marines do it, Spartans do too.
As far as the campaigns go, their difficulty was intentional. You have to really think about what your doing. In Halo 3, they "set you on a tredmill" and tell you to just run. In Halo CE, I think of it as Indiana Jones. You've got this force to be reckoned with (boulder) coming after you, and you gotta figure out how to survive. Secondly, the whole "being confused as to where to go" happened to me alot. Until I listened to comm chatter. Marines, Officers, even Cortana will tell you where to go pretty often.
Now, I understand where H3 could be more "welcoming" of a campaign. Changes in scene and pace are very dramatic, and pretty obvious. It may just be my opinion again, but I think that Halo CE has a more "real" touch to it. If you drive up to a giant metal tunnel in your warthog, with a marine on the gun, you wouldnt have music in your head change from trumpets to creepy drums. You would maintain that adrealine rush, but be aware that the marine has wet himself.
Just my insight.
Cheers
[EDIT] n357, I believe that your mentioned "God's Gift" would be the Quake series, excluding Enemy Territories (Never hand out a decent series to another company...)
Im not going to get into that here though, just saying ;P
