I've done that, except it was with grunts, and I stuck five plasma grenades to him ( I killed him and he dropped them, plus they weren't going off) then an entire needler round (didn't go off) and then i used 4 frags where he was standing and then 10 rocket rounds. When I unfroze him he just went flying, and then in midair the needler and plasma grenades went off

This was done on Legendary mode.

It was the dead of winter in the part of Halo we were on. My newly formed squad of six accompanied me along the icy patches of terrain as we made our way to the objective. Ammuntion was low and morale was rock bottom. Sarge had been hit hard and was a goner if we didn't get him to a med evac. He didn't show it though. Two others were wounded as well. Their injuries held together nicely. Well we engaged I don't know how many squads along the way to the ridge, but it was hell.

Eventually we ran across a group of 5 survivors that were more than happy to see us. Me even more so for some reason. Well we dealt with a pair of Hunters that were nearby and a full compliment courteousy of a damn dropship. No wounded from either engagement.

We made our way to this ridge that was being held by at least a platoon's strength of Covenant infantry, armor, and defensive turrets. I snuck up along the ridge and snagged a peak at what we were up against. After seeing two Elites leading a large group of Grunts, two Ghosts off in the distance, a Shade turret, and the outline of a Banshee I walked back down and explained to the men what I saw.

Fear was struck into their ragged eyes, but they swallowed that fear quickly knowing it was either we lose and die or we win and get some R & R. Four men gave a quick prayer and everyone waited for my signal. I got back up along the ridge and fired two shots into a Red Elite. One for the shields the other for the kill. It dropped to the ground with a thud. The S2 AM shots were loud enough to get the attention of all the Covenant nearby.

We rushed up and engaged the Covenant there. Only two men had followed me at the beginning. We were immedaitely pinned down by three turrets and the Grunts that remained. We dealt with the Grunts and kept our heads low as we waited for the rest of the squad to get back out.

They relieved us from the Shade turret fire and we got back out and re-engaged. That pair of Ghosts and a Banshee attacked us from all our forward flanks. I can't remember how many frags were thrown to kill the hover craft, but the men nearly went deaf by the shots. Plasma struck them and me spattering red blood unto the snowy turf beneath us. My shields had dropped and a shot was coming right for me.

I saw my life flash before my eyes and then an outline of a human in front of that. I snapped back into reality and saw that a marine had just taken the brunt of a plasma barrage for me that would have ended my life. Blood and ash covered his life less corpse. I ducked and fired at the Banshee that had ended his life.

Several shots hit and it exploded in a plume of smoke and fire. The squad and I continued our advance and ran into another group of Grunts. I ducked and turned to my right engaging an Elite that was in hiding. I killed it and saw another marine jump out in front of me. But this time he ran and flailed his arms and ran towards the Covenant. In a bright blue flash three second later he vanished taking a turret with him.

We moped up the area of all remaining Covenant forces and Cortana called in a dropship to pick the marines up. I was wished the best of luck by the survivors and informally recieved the order to give 'em hell. Before I went through the door the Covenant were guarding so badly I took one last look at the men that had accompanied me.

All had distance gazes and tired looks. Blood, both human and alien, ash, and dirt covered them head to toe. I gave a nod and headed out for my mission.

The sacrifice those two men have gave me had saved my life in the war so that I might go on and destroy that Forerunner construct two days later. It is a shame that I was unable to do them the same favor by saving them.

wow, Hikaru 119 u just gave the best Halo story I have ever read, describing how the marine had died from the plasma grenade and all, that was sweet.

How'd u keep so many alive on Legendary? usually for me all but 2 or sumthin die.

Practice, practice, practice. Did I mention this was with human weapons only?

Well to keep you marines alive you stay at long range and take your time. But work fast when you first find the marines. Explosives and sniper weapons come in handy alot. But basically I aimed for the Grunts first. For some reason it has come to be smarter to attack the weakest while your marines attack the Elites. That way no grenades go flying about killing your men. Also get fast reflexes and what I call " Combat Syndrome " meaning you know exactly what exactly what is going on around you even though you are preoccupied by another threat. Think of it as a sixth sense.

The coolest thing a marine has done for me was I was about to pick up the marines with the tank right when you get the tank on AotCR. Right when i got close Sgt. Johnson tried to throw a grenade at an elite and instead the grenade bounced off the neck of a fellow marine and destroyed the whole group of marines. And it is a good thing too, I needed sniper ammo

Why is that people are so bad of shots that they need sniper ammo?

There are a total of three sniper rifles and over 300 rounds of sniper ammo out there in that level! You don't need to kill marines because you can't stand being without your precious sniper ammo. Dude you are sick. Try looking around for some spare munitions instead of killing/ or allowing the death of an extra gun that has infinte that is on your side shooting at the enemy. Oh yeah and I know how much there is because I have counted it.

Here is proof

In the 'too much time on their hands' category, Hikaru-119 takes home the golden penguin for his Munitions count on all campaign levels of Halo. Gah.(Louis Wu 15:51:41 UTC)

and link

too much work

and sniper ammo for that level is

433 rounds for 3 S2 AMs

Well it wasn't a marine it was a Tech. It was on The Map Halo, I went all the way to the last escape pod site and they had the usual marines and techs. I killed all the covenant and the pelican came to pick up the survivors and I prevented them from getting on the pelican by using the warthog and then I killed the last of the marines and one tech. They had only one tech left and I felt like being cruel so I stuck a plasma on him. He lifted up his arms and spun around. I was cracking up so bad. Has anyone ever seen a Tech spin?

Only once. And it was SGT. Johnson. He was the only one left> I was playing on legendary in the 2nd part of T&R. There was a door that opened, He rolled toward i8t threw 3 nades advanced killed like 6 guys and then...died.

I dedicate this to him *sniff sniff* *salute*

Well, you see, here I am, running around with one bar of health and no shields on legendary (those banshees are murderous), and as I round a corner, guess what I find. A Scarlet Elite. So I think "Damn, I'm screwed", when all of a sudden, two white lines impale the elite and smite him to the ground. I look around and as luck would have it, a marine was right there bailing my butt out with his S2-AM.
Another time, I had my back against the outcropping thing that a shade rests on in AotCR. In a tank on heroic with Sarge, a needler, and two AR wielders, I came under heavy fire from the two wraith tanks. Sarge having dropped the ghosts takes out a shade while an AR wielder took out a Jackal. After eliminating one tank, I, with no shields yet again find myself in mortal danger as a Plasma Mortar arcs through the air towards me. As I began to think about what went wrong, an elite came flying over from another marines grenade. As unbelievable as it may sound, it intercepted the roiling blue instrument of death, and set it off in midair, saving me. After taking out the Wraith that attempted to kill my men and I, Sarge amazed me by dropping two hunter in two shots. Sarge yelled to the Marines "I'm so proud of you men!" To which a Marine responded "YEA!" Also another marine ran up yelled "LET ME GET THAT!", and shot a dead jackal.
I like to think of the Marines as men who depend on me as much as I depend on them. Very, very rarely will I kill a marine just for ammo.

I Salute you men who have given their lives in defense of Earth, their comrades, and most importantly, me. <sniffle>

The coolest thing a marine has done for me was in T&R. In the shuttle bay me and marines were trapped behind the wraith, pinned down by two hunters and 3 elites, when one marine went out by himself, fragged the elites, and shot one of the hunters before getting melted by a fuel rod bolt. To this day I call him by the honorable name....

Marine.

You guys are all lucky, cause i only get the stupid marines. SGT JOHNSON is the rare exception when he has a sniper rifle. No marine has ever really "saved my life" though. They are already dead by the first checkpoint. And losers who think its cool to kill marines shoudl stop it. Like sreiously, why would you kill the good guys (OK i did it once on Halo, but i was bored)

Well, the coolest encounter I've ever had with a marine is this:

On my friend's Xbox I have a saved game of Halo on legendary. I saved and sanctified this holy relic as soon as it happened. I had been driving through one of the life pod zones with a generic marine in the side seat and Sgt. Johnson tearing 'em up at the gunner position, when my marine died from some excessive needle fire. I finished that area and went to the next, figuring I could pick up another marine there. When I got there, guess who decides to join my ride. A SECOND Sgt. JOHNSON! I was absolutely ecstatic. I saved it right then and there, and to this day I will not continue that level to another check point (yes, I know I have no friends, I know). It's really fun to keep playing that check point over and over again and dying on purpose. It's great to get tagged with a grenade and have both Johnsons scream at the same time. Ahh, stereo.

Seriously though, I ask not what my marines can do for me, but what I can do for my marines. They are really effective (especially on Legendary) if you use them like they were meant to be used, (tactical/squad based). On Tru7h and Reconciliation Foehammer drops off five extra marines at the grav-lift, and if you kept the first five alive that equals one mean marine power house. I once stood in the middle of all ten marines, up the slope a little way from the grav-lift, while wave after wave of legendary covenant scum poured down upon us. I took some mad damage but nine of my marines survived the battle. The one KIA, he died on the last wave. I fired 21 bullets for him.

SuperFlious
Two Johnsons

I mean the last wave before the hunters came down, because hunters are a joke. If you so much as take damage from one of those guys, you really need to take some Sidestep-Turn-FireSniperIntoBack lessons.

The coolest thing probably was on Silent Cart. and it was the very end of the level (on normal, first time ide played that level) and I had left my 'hog full of marines at the entrance to the shafted cutscene. once I had found the cart. I was coming back to them, rounded that corner and ran into that gold elite with the sword while I was reloading. I woulda gotten killed by those marines wasted him. i was quite proud.

The coolest thing my marines have done to me(in AotCR on legendary) was when they attacked a hunter with AR fire(when 4 of the 5 marines was low on health),first, one marine died of a smash of the hunter(4 marines left),then 3 of my buddies fired as hell on the hunter as one more marine went down (3 marines left)to death, just before the hunter was able to smash his heavy shield on one more marine(of the 3 who was remaining),the 3 guys killed the hunter. That was a heck of a fight , so i didn't risk my life for that hunter.lol

One time a marine was assaulting the beach on SC and threw a grenade as soon as he got out of the pelican and took out half the grunts forward of him and took the blue elites shield down. i finished him with a shot to the head. then he killed the two jackals at the end. he jumped in the gunner's seat of the warthog and survived till the end of the level and killed the final gold elite. this was on legendary and it was sergeant stacker.

One time, on legendary Assault on the Control Room, I managed to save Sgt. Johnson for the tank run, and he killed EVERYTHING.
By the time we got to the bridge room, he'd already killed everything that was on foot, and he proceeded to snipe, from across the abyss, both hunters, all the grunts, both elites and all the jackals. I didn't even use the tank to shoot across. It was great.

it was AotCR. the part when the dropship comes down at the end of the tunnel. when you go around to the door in the structure in the middle a bunch of covies come out. i was in the tank and had four guys on. a grunt threw a plasma 'nade on the guy (Sgt. Johnson) in my left front. he jumped off and did the leaping-forward-to-get-away-from-a-vehicle jump and slid on his stomach... right into the middle of the covies.he killed them all with the exception of an elite that was so badly hurt he probably could have tripped and died. i carved his name in the wall with the machine gun.

Sgt. Johnson...king among men.
