PROS:
*Best campaign in the series. Halo 2 refuses to let up until the very end and even then, it feels like it could go on for longer. I have only three complaints about the campaign, but those are covered in my cons.
*Best art design in the series. The game featured highly detailed environments while still retaining that distinctive "Halo look" from the first game. Unlike its successor, Halo 2 never looks cartoonish or fake, just stylized.
*Best Xbox Live community in the series. I still think the best multiplayer is a toss-up between Halo 1 and Halo 2, but there's no denying that this game featured the best Live community. Halo 3's community is all about the "social" aspect of the game, and while Halo 1 didn't support Live, its PC conversion tends to be filled with newer and less skilled players that wear away the competitive edge for the experienced pros. Halo 2 struck a good balance between social gaming and competitive edge. Optimatch did a great job contributing to that balance.
CONS:
*The ending sucks. I'm well aware that Halo 2 was developed under a very demanding production schedule and ended up being rushed to release, but they could have devised a more satisfying ending than what we got. It offered no resolution, no sense of completion, and basically served as a plug for the inevitable Halo 3. I remember staring at my television in disbelief upon completing this game. I remember screaming at it. I remember using words like "insulting" and "cop-out".
*Jackal Snipers ruin Legendary. They're not quite as bad on the other difficulties, but load up a game in Legendary and WHAM! These little turds absolutely piss all over the concept of balanced gameplay.
*The game's marketing campaign was incredibly misleading. I expected Halo 2 to be a game about defending Earth from a seemingly unstoppable Covenant invasion force, not a story-driven galactic romp to locations like High Charity, Delta Halo, and the Forerunner gas mine. This complaint is sort of hard to justify because I like how Halo 2 ended up more than how it would have been if it were just set on Earth, but I still recall being somewhat disappointed upon completing the game and discovering that we wouldn't get to "finish the fight" on Earth for another three years.
