How to get on bungie favorites.

No, I am not interested in your group. Don't send me any messages regarding so or you'll be blocked.

Well I do hear complaints of lag from my buddies in Britain when they play online...

Hosting servers are a terrible idea for 2 main reasons.

1. You can rarely find a server that you and your friends can play on without lag. If you connect well to East coast servers and I connect well to West coast servers then we cannot play together without one of us having a bad gaming experience. Selecting Host console attempts to resolve this issue by picking the player who connects best to the most people in the game.

2. Once the number of players drops low enough the game developer removes servers and you can no longer play the game online. Look at Halo 2, not a lot people playing it but it's still available online. If Microsoft were paying for servers to host players all over the world they would have already taken the Halo 2 servers offline and people would be complaining that they can no longer play. With the current hosting model all you need is 2 people wanting to play and online play continues.

Bungie should not replace the current hosting model with a server model, they should fix the problems they have with host selection. Networking code and host selection is a mess in Halo 3, resulting in individuals who should never have host receiving it an inordinate amount of the time. There's good hope these problems will be fixed though since Bungie hired an Engineer who specialises in game networking code at the beginning of Halo: Reach development. Prior to this Halo network code was written by people who probably had no business doing so.

Do you really care? you can't automatically see my signature anyway.

they should go to the halo 2 netcode which worked alot better than the netcode from halo 3.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

No.

PEANUT-BUTTER SLAP!

There would still be an advantage to those closest to the servers, and they'd always have it.

i agree here, it is laggy online, Australia doesnt have fibre optics, the fastest we can go is around 10mbp/s which is terrible compared to Britain, USA or Japan (the other main countries).

Fine then, you give Bungie the millions of doallars that would be needed to have enough servers to host all of the Halo fanbase.

Are we playing the same game?

I'm running at 150KBPS and I get just about no lag...

If I could write off your murder I'd save all of my receipts. Because I'd rather you be dead than lose a tiny shred of what I made this fiscal year.

that would be impressive if it were 150 MBPS :D

Matchmaking should run on dedicated servers, custom games should be hosted by players in the game.

Once the number of people playing dips below the "Quota", put in a quick update that changes Matchmaking to be hosted by a player in the game.

I honestly don't understand how Bungie are willing to give us 25MB of server space for free, but are unwilling to put in dedicated servers.

I don't even know why we pay for XBL when Microsoft don't even make an effort to minimise lag. Not even for their flagship title.
