I wish I was still legendary.

Every halo game so far has had a training level - from the pillar of autumn to an enclosed area of Mombasa Streets.

For Reach, here's my idea: The training level is Chief's Armor Testing, but dumbed down a bit (instead of breaking bones just meleeing, that sort of thing). You would start with him standing in the tent and the test starting, then wasting the ODSTs with melee and a few AR shots (probably a decent amount for training, about the same as a grunt), running through the course (which introduces you to jumping, weapons, grenades and shielding) and would finish where it finishes. From here we jump to the other spartans being outfitted, and then the game's opening cinematic starts.

Opinions?

Confound these ponies, they drive me to insomnia.

Also, Applejack ftw.

THAT is a GREAT idea!

I think it would be better if it was when he gets his shielded suit and Cortana. He kills the ODST's, dodges the mines, takes out the two turrets and deflects the helicopter missile. Ossim.

I'd say it's pretty much a guarantee that Master Chief will be in at least the very end of Halo: Reach. Not everybody knows how the PoA got to Halo, I wouldn't put it past Bungie to show off how Halo: CE started.

That's what this bit is. it's just a bit difficult to do it as described in the book without making it a cinematic.

Melee the ODSTs. one melee kills them. You then pick up the first AR you run across, along with ammo, and kill the other ODST. the game teaches you how to melee, shoot & reload at this point.

For the mines, you learn finer movement control and grenades. Basically slower moving because if you step wrong you're back at the start of the mines. It also teaches you a bit of your HUD, because the mines show up as enemies on your motion tracker.

taking out the turrets: I can't quite remember how he does this. I imagine it'd be used ingame as a chance to use zommed weapons though, or grab a support weapon (not necessarily use it).

The skyhawk missile deflection would be the shields example. What you would do here is run to a certain distance, at which your shields would charge and it would become an interactive cutscene where you batted the missile away and drained your shields. From here it's just run to the finish line, your shields recharging on the way (gives you an idea of recharge speed).

technically the worst he did was shoot someone in the kneecaps, crack some ribs and break a femur with his hands. But hey, for gameplay it'd be better to knock them out rather than have them lye there screaming and getting in the way.

MJOLNIR Armour testing on Reach, not long before the invasion. he kinda...knocked out like 10 ODSTs as part of the training. He also cracked a few of their skulls and ribs, and broke someone's leg.

'neutralising' the threat. Not killing them, neutralising them.

Strength And Honour

I liked the bit when he was 14 years old , just after the augmentation, 4 ODST's pick a fight in the gym and 117 kills 2 of them and seriously wounds the other 2...with his bare hands,
awesome.....Spartans are like armoured gods

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

I think this is a great idea and seeing as Reach is the beginning of MC it would be nice to see him start out in an unfamiliar setting - ie with his nice new armour !

Good idea OP, nice to see something original in the quagmire of "wat aboot da BR" and "I want a boat in reech" threads

Then we would be jumping character to character and that would make for a confusing story for lots of people. Howbout have us play as whoever we will be in this game (Spartan-259?) when they got their Mk V armor, in a similar test to the Chief's.

If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

For some random reason people just want to be the Chief, even if its for some training mission.

The chief was the only one who performed the test. It was a way of proving that the armour worked, no more, no less.

I still think it would make for a better training mission than ZOMG MAh PELICANZ CRASHED LETZ GO HIED.

More like "ZOMG TEH CUVNUNT IZ ATTKIN TEH CAIRO". But i guess everyone forgets about that mission and just jumps to Mombasa <_<

I would say that would happen relatively early in the game, since the PoA only stays during about 30 minutes of the battle of Reach.

It was implied. And the only reason that particular course was even assembled was because Ackerson wasn't convinced the armour could do its job.

It doesn't matter. Either way, it would make for an IDEAL training level.

If because he was the only one we see go through the training, then it is implied he was the only one who did, then since he was the only one who recieved the new armor and neural interface upgrade, it's also implied that he was the only one to do so. And that's incorrect...

It's logical that all the Spartans got to test out their brand new armor before going on the one mission which could have saved the human civilization.

I would say rather than break the canon by "dumbing down" the training excersize, and rather than having us introduced to the Chief and Cortana for a single training mission only for them to leave for Halo in the next mission or two while we are playing as a whole new character, just give us the training of whoever the main player character is in this game.

It's not good for story to let you play as one person (the Chief) for one mission and then someone else for the rest of the game. You need to be emotionally invested in your character for the story to have any impact, so starting through the eyes of someone else isn't a great idea...

a
I don't know. If we follow MLG Cheehawa's take on it, the next spartan through (possibly 259) could well have destroyed it, or it may not have shown up because his training was different, not being used to prove the suit worked.
