Subject: A BR thread unlike the others

Okay I'm utterly sick of seeing all of you people moan and complain about how unblanced/balanced the BR is. But here's my question. In SINGLE PLAYER do you have any complaints with the battle rifle? Probably not. It works fine (despite the low maximum ammo capacity) and isn't some crazy power weapon that makes all others obsolete. It works just fine.

It's downright disgusting and insulting to the campaigns of any of the Halo games to see that all you people care about is multiplayer and seem to want every gameplay mechanic and weapon catered to the multiplayer first and foremost, then applied to campaign later.

My problem with it is that it's too fine, even in Campaign. The BR is excellent in just about any encounter; close-range, mid-range, long-range. . . As long as you have alright aiming and ammo, you probably won't need to pick up any other weapon. That's my problem with it.

I want the other weapons to be useful in their own right - allow them to do something that other weapons can't. The BR pretty much mashes all the other weapons together and makes a superweapon fit for just about anything.

The Automag of ODST was a great replacement for the Battle Rifle - it didn't completely dominate, it was only very good when you had another weapon of a different type (like the Plasma Pistol or Sniper) and had only a single purpose: to take down weak or unshielded enemies, and it did it well. It was more of a "finishing-off" weapon, something that the BR should have been.

The replacement of the BR should be a mixture of the Assault Rifle (which should also be scrapped) and the BR - it would have no scope, would fire three shots with each pull of the trigger, would have a smaller clip size and would kill slightly faster than the old BR did. Maybe it could be a sort of prototype-BR, as somebody suggested in another thread.

I guess I'm just thinking out loud. As long as the BR we know and "love" is gone in Reach, then I'll be happy.

The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.

You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.

So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

Actually in both halo 2 and 3 I am downright disgusted with the BR. The ease of putting out both high shield draining damage and then almost cheating as I kill off waves of unshielded foes leads me to play most solo runs on campaign (yes I still do them from time to time) with everything but the BR/ limited use of the carbine at times.
It really is a much better experience having to actually shoot it out with grunts or better yet have charging brutes actually be able to get up close to you rather than die instantly from even an ill-aimed BR burst. I really suggest you try it some time.
EDIT/ ADD ON: You really come to appreciate the rest of the game's arsenal when you stop seeing brute shots as just floor decorations and instead as your salvation from foes afar. There is hardly a greater feeling then picking up a new plasma rifle as your old ones has just decided to spurt its last burst just as a chieftain decides it's time to do his MC Hammer impersonation.

it doese'nt look nextgen , looks good but not nextgen
If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

I don't use the BR that much in single player.

I would be pretty glad if the BR was moved from the campaign. It would force you to be more careful in what your weapon choices would be.

No BR in SP but keep it for multiplayer.

The Battle Rifle and the MD6 pistol are too effective in the games, unless I have a Carbine, its hard to try to play the campaign without any of the incredibly effective medium range weapons.

Still, I try to use other weapons from time to time.

Party Hard.

Halo 3 has been out for what, a little over two years now? Sorry dude but the game is almost all about the Multiplayer at this point. Multiplayer gives players an enticing experience and allows the unexpected to happen. You cannot recreate the same experience in Campaign or anything PvE related for that matter. After a while, the campaign is boring. Changes to the BR should be considered for mostly multiplayer purposes.
