I think they're working on it, but I haven't heard much about it.

It won't be the classic "post more, rank up" scenario. I believe it'll be based on a karma system. IF it is implemented.

I would have to agree with Psyched. The amount of post and member join date should have nothing to do with a rank, it will only lead to even more spam and elitism. I do believe that if it is based on a positive feedback system that only mods, employees or members of a certain rank can add to, it can be beneficial. It might dissuade a member from flaming another member because it might drop their rank down. It might also make members follow the rules a little closer. Of course, they could just test it for a little bit and it has no positive attributes they can easily get rid of it.

I think this "karma ranking" is how the RvB forums work. I cant post there, because I have a free e-mail acct (bastards) but I see these little mod notices on each post (a lot of them are -lame or -flamebait). But the points on these notices are sometimes in the hundreds. They knock people down hard for typing things like "FIRST POST YAY" and they REALLY knock em down for the non-sponsors who post "when is the ep gonna be availible to the public"

Karma would never work. The flood is ruled by several members and their psycophant minions, and the Halo2 forums are so vicious everyone would just rank each other down.

That is a problem. However, a lot of the Septagon members are much more responsible and might serve to knock down the undeserving Flood members a few pegs. Yes, it'd need a lot of work in order to work fairly, but I'd hardly say it's beyond Bungie.

I don't know how well it would work, but maybe just a positive points mod system, so there would be no arguments over negative points.

Meh, you need to be able to knock someone down a peg if the start acting like a jerk.

The problem with the karma system is that it is relative to the views of the people voting (denizens of that particular forum.) For example, in a forum where bad activities were "good" in their eyes, karma would be rewarded for those undesirable actions, only making the problem worse. What we need is for mods or Bungie employees to be the only ones to hand out points, otherwise we could get into some nasty situations.

why can't they judge it on xbox live levels?

!

That would cause so many problems. A lot of the "best" members (as per view of the average Septagon regular) are lower levels on Halo 2; some don't even have XBL.

And a lot of the higher ranks on XBL are very immature, have no clue about the art of grammar, and a lot are cheaters. How would you like to find out that the guy with the most karma points is an immature, pathetic 9-year-old who does nothing but bring grief to the community?

Ooooh dear. this discussion again? Ok. Well last time we discussed this, there was at least 3 pages of different ways to get these avatars/ ranks. I'm sure If Bungie were to impliament a system, it would't be a karma system simply because of the amount of problems it would cause (unless it was a particually clever karma system)

I disagree. The key is that the system should be designed with those kinds of issues in mind. And we'd make it so we'd first just get the scoring working, before any benefits came with having a better score.

MSXL: The Last Honest Chapter

Hmmm... I have always been dead set against ranking systems in forums for many reasons. To me, it just opens the door for people to act like jerk-offs to new users because they have a low rank. I mean, I don't post on the main forums much, so I probably wouldn't get a high karma rating. But despite that, I have been here longer the most other active members!

I suppose it all depends how the system is implemented. In my opinion, it's always safer to just say no to ranks in forums, but I'm sure if Achronos is sure about it, it will come out ok!

Karma systems can work, but as Achronos has pointed out, issues such as abuse of the system etc. needs to be serioously thought of. The Rooster Teeth form's karma system seems to work pretty well.

If someone has been an active member here for a year, most of the people of the community should know if that member is good or bad.
