Just because you didn't see them until Halo 2 doesn't mean they weren't part of the Covenant at the time.
This.

They were in the one of the books I'm quite sure, and in Halo Wars.

What? They weren't in Halo Wars... Unless you're talking about those timeline events which I didn't bother to collect.

Brute Cheiftain?.....brutes and choppers?

Just because you did not see them in the first game dose not mean they did not exit.

Reach MMO. Here's to hoping.

And the people that believe "the hardcore playlists would be more popular if the rules were strictly MLG" can come off it, now. If you're not willing to support something close to your own setup, there's no reason for us to believe that cloning our own lists and stripping the variety down will attract more people. -- Shishka, Bungie.net

in the book fall of reach bleu team neither sees elites or brutes so they could still be in the game because they were in contact harvest witch takes place before fall of reach and there were elites and brutes in that book

They were in Halo Wars... when you first encounter the Flood, Brutes are the first Covenant you face.

The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.

You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.

So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

-Most of the member species of the covenant have been in it since long before the events of the halo games. Halo: CE features a limited cast because of game production limitations and the fact that only a select force follows the PoA to the ring (heck the books mention a few prophets that are on halo during the events of the first game).
-However I expect (rather I am PRAYING) that brutes will only serve as augmentations to the main elite forces rather than the miserable replacements for elites we have in Halo 3 + ODST.
-In addition to Brutes/Engineers/Drones I would not be surprised to see Bungie toss in some more species from the covenant swarm. There is a whole lot of concept art from halo 2/ even back in halo 1 that would make some delightful additions to the list of enemies. Heck even if some turn out to be a bit redundant (another mainstay unit that just walks around firing with a common rifle, or even just a specialized sniper or anti-tank critter) I would still enjoy seeing the diverse additions to the Halo experience.
EDIT: Oh my God, awesome idea, what about an elite bossing around packs of brutes (not armored up brutes like in halo 3 but just the demo squads/ chargers of halo 2). Finally let us see why the Brutes want to usurp the elites.

Bungie created grunts, jackals, hunters and elites as covenant enemies for halo:ce.
Since most successors have new enemies, weapons etc. Bungie created prophets, drones and brutes. To make the hole thing canon bungie said that the brutes and drones were part of the covenant before halo:ce.

PS: I do know that prophets weren't new in halo 2, but we as the players saw them for the first time.

Yeah like three weeks and about 2 months before Halo 2. So Brutes should be in Halo Reach as well as Elites. Not to mention Brutes were the first Covenant we see.

were it so easy

i would like to see a combination of both where you have to fight both one tries to stay back when low on shields and other bum rushes. that makes it interesting. even making some parts maybe that shows some kind of divergence between the two. like maybe as you are playing you will be coming upon them and you see them fighting over a weapon.

  • 10.09.2009 11:14 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Because Brutes still existed and were part of the Covenant at the time.

I'm just a guy like you that plays halo.

You never played Halo Wars?

Exactly!

Big Team Battle Multiflag/Slayer on Standoff/Valhalla/Sandtrap/Avalanche = Win

I doubt the book Fall of Reach covered every detail about the battle for Reach. Bungie will find a way to throw them into the mix, they're not just going to throw away a main enemy.

The fight has been complete.... now get the cookies!

While we certainly share your enthusiasm for the return, we here at the Bungie.net community are mostly made up of snarky asses and jerks who will ridicule you for making a thread about something revealed months ago. We regret that your innocent intentions will almost certainly be replied with anger and sarcasm, and politely invite you to don your Flame-suit, because you just did the internet equivalent of jumping up the Construct lifts.

How would you know that there even is Brutes in Reach?

  • 10.09.2009 12:43 PM PDT

Marine Corps.
Semper Fi.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

It would be nice to shoot at Elites once more. I miss them.

Can you believe it?

Did they even say that Brutes would be in Reach?

  • 10.09.2009 1:02 PM PDT

yeah really!! Doesn't bungie know that all the brutes fell out of the sky in the middle of halo 2?!?! WTF!

Brutes were at Harvest, they were a part of the Covenant way before the events of Reach.

I still don't want to see Brutes in Reach though, the main enemy better be Elites.

I agree... Elites were much funner to fight. They were cooler looking and generally smarter imo. If anything they are superior simply because they dont lumber around and grunt and act like stupid gorillas when their shields fall.

Does anyone else think of this?

AMEN!

  • 10.09.2009 1:16 PM PDT

Peace through superior firepower.

Brutes and Elites have seperate ships, and never work together. Hell, one time the Brutes attacked the Elites for fun.

  • 10.09.2009 1:17 PM PDT

lol, Plasma Pistols

Maybe brutes and elites were enemies. And that would be cool if you were facing them at the same time, they would turn and fight each other, IMO.

Rock + Metal = Life
Simple math

The brutes where in the covenant before Halo 2. Like someone said, the elites are the better main enemy butt if I would like to have the brutes in some levels in some parts (so the brutes and the elites would not fight together). I would like to have the brutes more dangerous to face in meele combat but the elites more clever (e.g. cover when shields are down).
