Microsoft has a hit with the Halo franchise, and they're not letting it go anytime soon. In an interview with USA Today, 343 Industries creative director Frank O'Connor said they're looking at the property with a long view. "We do have a plan that goes out at least six years," he said. "Eventually it will become very apparent that there is a plan for the way the canon ties together and the way the comic books and the novels all tie together." Among the stories and merchandise coming are Halo Reach, the Halo: Helljumper and Blood Line comic series, "Halo Legends" anime, and the new Halo Evolutions novel.
O'Connor also claims they're being "careful to pick the right time and the right partner" for a potential Halo movie. And somewhere in this timeline, O'Connor hints that we'll see what happened to Master Chief after the events of Halo 3. "I think that (his) fate, Cortana's fate and the identity of that giant, dark planet at the ending are probably big mysteries that would be irritating if they were just cliffhangers," he said. It sounds like Microsoft has a plan in place to keep a slow drip of Halo for a long time to come. Fans of the story may rejoice, but for everyone else, how much Halo is too much?
