UPDATE: All traffic should be redirected to the links located at the bottom. I have stopped most work on this since others are doing a much better job. Links at the bottom. However, I will keep the information unchanged as it is a good starting point for anyone interested. Thank you, and good luck!

First of all, watch this video... Might I suggest disabling its audio.

This is a refreshed and revised version of the thread that was maintained by
SeasonedVeterans. The reason this has been done is because too many
people were getting stuck on the old title, and the idea of swords. Also now
we have an organised and revised version of everything found.

S.1 Opening Statement
Any and all information may be relevant, and it is up to you to decide if it can help in anyway. I encourage all trying to help to refrain from multiple posts about different ideas discoveries etc. I obviously realise that things are learned at different times, but it makes it easier for me and others to keep track of everything if it is all together in one place. Try to be neat as well, no need for confusion on misused, forgotten or misspelled words.

In the infancy stages of our findings there will be lots of field work to do. It will eventually slow down.

So in conclusion help is greatly appreciated and we (as in the people working towards this goal) are asking help from you the reader to do some researching, field work, and brain storming. You can pick one or contribute in all of the above, after doing so post your results here and let us and yourself run with the ideas! Arguments for and against this are all welcome as both can be constructive. Refrain from flaming and trolling and simply making fun of other people.

S.2 Goal of the Project
The Bungie community has come to the conclusion that it is very possible that Bungie has created multiple Easter Eggs throughout the whole that is ODST. We have many clues towards these things including information from Bungie regarding secrets, canon to the story, and Easter Eggs. (Looking for more confirmation.[That's UK's OXM readers!])

Following the idea that there is a possibility of unlocking these different bits of information, we are taking it upon ourselves to look for multiple clues and leads to unlocking the secrets that are within the game! Whether it be simple Easter Eggs or more story into the Forerunners, on top of all of this we will have an extensive and detailed documentation of all the recordings logged along the way.

S.3 Mystery of the Glyphs
No doubt most of everyone has noticed the strange Glyphs that are around New Mombasa, and I wouldn't doubt that you yourself have at least simply wondered what they were all about. That is what this section is dedicated to in hopes of finding out.

S.3a What we know so far
We know that the ones responsible for the mysterious glyphs, or at least some of them, are the Engineers. They use these glyphs as a form of communication it seems to tell stories, the Y shapes seem to represent Forerunner ships. Currently we do not know of what the Glyphs depict, but it can be seen that these Glyphs are different looking than our typical Covenant Glyphs. Whether they mean different, similar or the same things is, so far, unknown.

The large Glyphs consisting of three sections separated by a Y shaped line, can have a few different builds:
They can consist of no glyphs.
They can consist of these new glyphs we will dub "Engineer Glyphs."
They can consist of S.I. faces, or S.I. Glyphs.
A Glyph can contain up to all three of these things at any given time. There is never more than one Glyph in any of the three sections of the triad.

S.3b Recording of the different Glyphs and their locations
Here is where we will record all the different known Glyph types, and their appropriate Sectors. You can save the following Sector Map to use as a guide when locating and recording these Glyphs. Print it off and open it up in MS Paint, and add points like G1, G2, G3 etc. with an appropriately labelled photo of the Glyph. If the Glyph is somewhat hidden, a brief tutorial on how to find it will be necessary. I personally believe this will be the most in depth and time consuming field work and will be the most extensive work.

Unique Glyph Builds:
The different Glyph builds will be located in here, it will document all the different variations
(At the moment this is briefly empty)

Sector Map (pertaining to Glyphs)
This Sector Map will be a guide to all the different Glyph locations and should eventually allow us to figure out which Glyphs disappear and where.
(At the moment this is briefly empty)

If requested I can post an exemplary way of labelling, recording, and documenting. You can always do your best since I will assimilate all the findings for consistency.

S.4 Dig Site Lamps
Dig site lamps (picture please?) are simply those lights that extend up when something approaches them, signifying that they are turning on when needed. It is unknown if these lights have any point or meaning, or are purely for aesthetic purposes.

The reason for them possibly being "Dig Site" lamps is because where they have been found in Halo 3 is in underground dug out parts of the map. If they are in fact "Dig site lamps" then what exactly are they digging for? It's known that the Ark Portal isn't directly under the city, but between it and the town of Voi. Could it be possible that more is buried on our planet? Or is it simply a part of the Portal they are uncovering. Either way, it helps develop the canon of Halo for the community, and help us to realise the reason for such an excavation to be overseen personally by the Prophet of Truth.

S.5 An ODST Stonehenge
It's obvious that these areas interest us, they are very different than the rest of the war torn city of New Mombasa. Upon entering you feel a sort of, post-war peacefulness. A Stonehenge like structure sits in the center of a room; the room contains dead Elites and Engineers that putter about. These rooms are usually hot beds for Glyph activities.

It has been reported that upon standing in the center of a Stonehenge, different music has played that had not been heard before. Confirmation in this area would help, and any recording of it would aid in figuring out any significance in the music.

What exactly are they for? It is unknown at this point, but it definitely would seem like something is there. Perhaps the Engineers have set up a sort of shrine of their own, perhaps not, but only explored theories will produce answers. The answers will also most likely produce further questioning.

S.6 Audio Logs
It is uncertain if there is more to be learned from the Audio Logs then just that of a story of a girl. Whether it's learning more of this girl, and/or her family is uncertain, but it's quite possible that there could be more to this.

Credit to VirtualCtor for bringing attention to the Audio Log Transcripts located on the Halo Wiki. Read this at your own pace community and see if anything particular stands out. Remember we have a cop in the game that has a connection to these people!

S.7 Engineer Habits
With ODST came the introduction of Engineers. The Engineer is a timid creature that flys about doing more of the Covenants mundance tasks. They are incredibly advanced and have the ability to fix, so far, everything. It's no doubt that you've seen the "flying bombs" that the Brutes have conscripted. It appears that they may have more of a significance then it would appear, in regard to the whole shroud covering ODST. What their significance is has yet to be realised.

It has been confirmed that the Engineers flee at the arming of Snipers. It is uncertain but assumed that only the Snipers make them flee, it's possible that other power weapons do as well. When visiting Stonehenge it seems that Engineers may react when standing in the center of the Stonehenge, and that a new song has been heard to play.

S.8 Work To Do
This Section will be followed by a list of Subsections that will describe some specific things to participate in. The list will most definitely constantly be changing as new jobs arise and old ones are unneeded.

S.8a Glyph Documentation
This is the only "job" that will require assignment, and only a certain amount of people will be needed. Those select people will need to be quite dedicated as this will take the most time out of ones day... If you are interested in this part, it will require you to be assigned to one of the city sectors and you and most likely one to a few others will need to do an extensive and thorough search for all the Glyphs in that sector. Upon location of a Glyph, you will need to mark down the almost exact area it was found and the build of it. If it is a difficult to reach/find Glyph then it is advised you write a quick tutorial on how to locate it.

If you are interested in this then send me a PM saying that your are interested in it, and if you have any friends or know of any other people. This will require stable connections so it is optimal if people with open NATs sign up for this.

S.8b Glyph Research
Glyph Research will be computer based. You should look for any interesting information you can find pertaining to Glyphs, preferably these new styled ones, but anything interesting to do with the older Glyphs might be valid information. This can be done at any point in time and at your leisure, you don't have to participate in this if you don't want to.

S.8c Lamp Light Testers/Explorers
People falling under this "job" will be doing work that involves testing plausible theories to do with the Lamp Lights, these can range from many different things. The exploration part will be more trial and error, doing random things like drawing an engineer close to them or destroying them etc. This can be done if you simply come across them or if it interests you.

S.8d Engineer Tracking
Engineer tracking is similar to bird tracking. You will monitor their habits, whatever they be... You will also make attempts at interacting with them, what makes them interact with you, what makes them react to things poorly and what simply doesn't do anything at all. It at times could be boring, it depends if you are into it or not. This can be done if you simply come across them or if it interests you.

S.8e VISR Exploration
Using VISR mode brings up some interesting things. This can be done at random, and with leisure. If you come across anything of interest then mark it down on the map for other people to conclude its interest. Things that will most likely be of interest are doors and things like Glyphs that are not necesarrily glyphs.

S.8f Free Cam Exploration
Using the Free Cam, you will fly about the city documenting things that occur when no one is around. Stuff in this section may not be concrete evidence and may have to be thoroughly tested. You will also have to see if something your character has affected a change. You could see if there are any doors and stuff like it that maybe only Engineers and/or Covenant have access to and things like that.

S.8g On Foot Exploration
On foot exploration will be the easiest and can tie in with Free Cam Exploration. You will need to flit about doing random things and checking random things. This one is a trial and error where only dumb luck can guide you. It would be a good idea to explore the dark sectors of the city as well.

S.8h Other
Is referring to a lot, mainly brainstorming and theorizing. We will be brainstorming for different ideas surrounding it all, and taking in the clues and working with those. Then we will theorize with the ideas and create sound theories that can be executed by the other jobs. Brainstorming and theorizing can be done quite easily on the forum here, and will be most of the discussion, the rest will be findings and points of interest, thing like that.

S.9 Mapped Points of Interest
Bungie user zackXman has compiled a map that documents points of interest that will be more easily found for all willing to help. It will change as new things arise and old things become obsolete.

S.10 Resources
This section will be updated with resources that may be able to aid people in finding or translating clues. It will also contain things like articles and videos that are of interest.
Basic Sector Map
A teasing video from Bungie
Covenant Alphabets
Old Covenant Glyphs
*SPOILER* The Legendary ending of the game

S.10a Getting out of: Video tutorials
Below is a list of videos showcasing how to get out of varying parts of the game, Halo 3: ODST.
Getting out of: Mombasa Streets
Getting out of: Crater (Night)
Getting out of: Tayari Plaza
Getting out of: Windward
Getting out of: Crater Alternative
Getting out of: Uplift Reserve
Getting out of: Coastal Highway
Getting out of: Security Zone

*That's all that has been found for now!*

S.11 People working towards the same goal
LINK: This link will take you to a post by ColdGlider of sub-culture-lifestyle. It is quite interesting.
LINK: Check out SGP's (Secret Glyph Project) forum over at sub-culture-lifestyle see what finds they have come across and run them past your own conclusions!

S.12 Top Contributors
First commended is I adJACENt I, and Pope Rex. They were the founders of idea/hunt. They also have done a lot of the footwork exploring many different theories and ideas.

People that have been with this from the beginning are also commended since they have contributed to much of it as well, unfortunately it's hard to tell exactly who they all are.

Both the dig site lamps and the glyphs appear in areas where dead elites are found nearby.

This is one of the first things I noticed when exploring the city.

S.3a What we know so far

A Glyph can contain up to all three of these things at any given time. There is never more than one Glyph in any of the three quadrants.

Just thought I'd point out that they are not quadrants unless there are four of them. You might reword this as "in any of the three parts of the triad."

  • 10.09.2009 1:52 PM PDT

More bacon strips!

Interesting thread, the Bungie teasing video says that there are 5 different kind of weapon cache, although all I have seen is multiple sniper and mongoose caches and one Rocket Launcher cache, which mean there are 2 other kind of weapon cache remaining...

Spartan Laser cache anyone?

Note: I could be wrong that there is only one Rocket Launcher cache.

S.7d Engineer Tracking
Engineer tracking is similar to bird tracking. You will monitor their habits, whatever they be... You will also make attempts at interacting with them, what makes them nice and what makes them suicide and what simply doesn't do anything at all. It at times could be boring, it depends if you are into it or not. This can be done if you simply come across them or if it interests you.

From my interactions, Engineers never suicide. They do have an explosive device attached to them that will begin beeping and eventually detonate when:
a) their squad-leader Brute is killed; or
b) their shields are down and they are injured (but not injured enough to die)

I have not found them to behave in any other ways with the exception of the Engineer Virgil who does not appear to have an explosive device attached to him.

Im going to have to explain because you guys are not listening. In the other thread someone posted a video about, "bumping", where you can open doors to get out into the black areas on the map. The video is 100% Real. All day today I have been on here trying to do what they did and it worked. In my fileshare I have pics to prove. Also, poeple have been talking about these "glyphs", these are also key. The glyphs where therer are dead elites and the word BELIEVE is written on the wall is one of the main ones that opened the door I opened. You have too look at those glyphs, walk back (stay in the same sector) and look at those other glyphs and go back to the door. If its not open go back and kill the jackal if he respawns. i dont have a clear exact way because I was doing alot of things at once so I dont know what triggers them or not. I have been trying to tell you people to look in my file share the pics but no one is listening. i am not a troller, spammer, I am on the same page you guys are and I just so happened to do this. If you watch the vid, he clealy explains what to do.

Sorry, I made a cleaned up version that doesn't have any of the glyph markings on it. I obviously linked the wronged one. I'll fix that as well.

Thank you for this info, I will edit the inaccuracies above. Perhaps we could look at whether or not we can draw an Engineer away from it's leader, or perhaps kill the Brute without setting off the bomb... Maybe by using stealthy assassinations?
