I think halo reaches weapons which are futuristic should have some qualities of real life weapons
Except that it's a game so it doesn't have to.
It spreads out in so many directions making it useless.
...maybe you shoult try using it at close range.
Now if we have a shotgun in the halo games that shoots a couple meters and the year is around 2556 when we have a 200 meter range fully automatic shotgun in 2009 called the AA12 which is far more advance the the shotgun in halo 3.
200 meters is a VERY long way off for a shotgun. I'm pretty sure you can't kill a bird (which i'm fairly sure doesn't have shields OR MJOLNIR to protect it) from more than about 30 yards tops.
I don't know about buck shot or slugs or the possibilities of special grenade type rounds (they exist) but it appears to me that the halo shotgun uses something a little larger than normal steel shot but smaller than buck. So the lethal range on a shielded and armored opponent i can imagine being...not very far.
I think they got it about right.
I understand your desire for realism...but that's not what it's about (although imo they got it pretty much right). The point is to be able to have fun.
If they introduced something as effective in Halo as the AA12 is today it would totally dominate everything ever always.
I can immagine it's level of effectiveness falling somewhere between 'annoyingly overpowered' and 'tear-streaked sadness about how utterly broken the game has become'
So, while i appreciate your dedication to realism
just be open the the game developing side of it.
That would be a quick way to ruin a game.
