Subject: G617 Info linked with Reach ??

In the recent weekly update Urk posted a transmission from G617
Transmission intercepted
scanning....
Origin and content suspect.

Querying assets [local to asserted origin]: activity level at point of origin [ref-G617]
Current activity level at G617: NIL

Additional query: Time since last recorded activity at G617

Time since last recorded activity at G617: 879 211 021 hours 14 minutes 32 seconds

Probability transmission originated at asserted point of origin [ref-G617]: NIL

Transmission tagged and shelved [ref-anomalous/sub/falsified]
With a quick visit to Halopedia i found this out

G617 is the Forerunner designation for a star, the location of the first planet, G617 g1, where they encountered the Flood, beginning the Forerunner-Flood War.
Could this possibly mean something to do with Reach??

Possibly. Though it seems a bit early to start a ARG.

What's an ARG?

  • 10.09.2009 3:48 PM PDT

It may have nothing to do with Reach but it was slightly random and Halopedia saying that it was at the start of the war made me post this topic

"itz FanFic writes: G617 g1

Protocols require that I do not leave my place of duty. I am sorry for my absence. Your world is bigger than I anticipated. Failure to succeed my intentions is not relevant. Date is changed. My intent is still the same."

^ This is the message that the text seems to be aimed at. The whole "FanFic" thing seems to make me believe that it's nothing official. Just skimming over the rest of the text seems to imply - correct me if I'm wrong - the denial of any recent activity on "G617".

I mean, its inclusion in the update was a bit odd. They didn't even make fun or it. Just tagged it on near the end...

Never give up or back down

There are 8765.81278 hours in a year, maybe its a clue to when Reach is going to be released? Considering they said, 879 211 021 14 32, I'm thinking maybe that it will released about a year and a few days from now.

IF THIS IS THE CASE.

I searched all possible areas of the search bar for "itz FanFic" but couldn't find anything?

What is NAR? I searched that too.

I'm pretty sure the whole FanFic name is made-up. Urk seems to create fake names for each news entry published in the BWU, based on the content of the news submission. See this Weekly Update for examples. This is why I'm lead to believe that this news entry is just a Fanfic.

Also, no idea what NAR is.

Yes it was a bit confusing, my imediate reaction was that it was relating to Reach, although it could just be random, or relating to another topic.

I think that this is more significant: "NAR is back."
NAR, most likely referring to Voro Nar 'Mantakree.

If my calculations are correct, that is about 100,299.9999 years ago.

This would include the 300 years of war between the Flood and the Forerunners. This was followed by the original activation of the Halo rings that killed off the Forerunner, along with any sentient lifeforms in the Milky Way, except those on the Ark.

The approximate time the Halo rings were set off.

Interesting...whilst I'm not convinced that it's Reach, I'm not sure it isn't either.

FROM HALOPEDIA:

G617 is the Forerunner designation for a star, the location of the first planet, G617 g1, where they encountered the Flood, beginning the Forerunner-Flood War.

A Forerunner-based research team called the Primary Pioneer Group made active landfall on the bordering town planet known as G617g and they initially reported some interesting findings. Despite previous assumptions and conjectures, the world could support sentient life despite the lack of fauna, which they intended to review more closely. The protocol allows them to dispatch a secondary batch of researchers called the Advance Survey Team-Alpha. After a week of no communication, the Forerunners who were remotely monitoring this new discovery became worried.

OK. So, we know that G617g was the first planet where the forerunner encountered the flood. The lack of recent activity implies the flood either became dormant or were wiped from the planet - I'm leaning towards the first one. The fact that they're waking up? Not good.

We don't even know where G617g is. For all we know, it actually could be Reach, Harvest...anywhere.

NAR could have something to do with some kind of anomaly they found - in this case it would be the flood, most likely. However, the title is so detached from the writing style of the rest of the transmission that I doubt it's too important.

OR NAR could have to do with Adjutant Reflex. I'm struggling to fit an N in there beyond New though.

That date's 100,299 years ago. I somehow doubt that Bungie have mastered time travel.

yeah its talkin about the flood planet. I'm pretty sure the planet is uninhabitable right? Possible clue to the flood being in reach?

It's a habitable planet that had no native plants when the Forerunner were there.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

They've never included cryptic in-character excerpts like this without it leading to something, so you can be sure that it will continue on.

I'm more inclined to believe that this might be the hype basket for the first of the Forerunner novels, though. Reach is coming in Fall of 2010... that's a year from now. They've always had their ARGs and hype machines for their titles begin two or three months in advance at the most.

Oh my God, guys.

Really?

I feel embarrassed now, and so should all of you. I just went and actually read through the update and saw the bit for myself. What you failed to mention is that your quoted text is in response to a forum-goer's attempt at pretending to be "NAR" (likely "New Adjutant Reflex").

The response very clearly translates to a sarcastic response pointing out that the news submission was fan-created, silly, and obviously, unreliable.

This isn't anything at all. It's their intermittent news submission response section of the weekly update.

EDIT: I think you're right.

*dissects news post*

NAR's post is only the part above the line. The bit below that basically says:

Last active 100,000 years ago

transmission false

yeah. It was a mean way of writing it, but makes sense once actually read.

Wayne Jarvis, Attorney at Law; I have a responsibility to tell you that there is no candy in this office.

People REALLY overanalyze things. "OMG Bungie r say sumthing no understood I didn't. REACHHHHH?"

If anything, look at where they said the Mariners were impressed by the new animations. Try to imagine what they could be working on. (Think like, adding boardings in Halo 2...)

Boarding, melees and new enemy animations (New berserk brutes/elites, whichever is in the game) would be my guess, along with jumping and reloading.

New animations doesn't necessarily mean new features. I was more interested in new 3d objects - it implies some pretty cool stuff, because I doubt they'd include that for just scenery.
