Subject: G617 Info linked with Reach ??

Possibly. Though it seems a bit early to start a ARG.

What's an ARG?

Not really, didn't the ARG for Reach start 6-12 months b4 Halo 3 actually came out?

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

No. IRIS began mid-June, with Halo 3 releasing in September. That's three months.

I do believe it's likely to be a fake - it's not badly written, but given that all the response really says is 'this may not be accurate, but we're detecting the first movement in 100,000 years' I'm just not sure.

Here's how it was meant to be interpreted:

Transmission intercepted
scanning....
Origin and content suspect.

News submission has been retained, as the content, as well as its source, are questionably unreliable.

Querying assets [local to asserted origin]: activity level at point of origin [ref-G617]
Current activity level at G617: NIL

Additional query: Time since last recorded activity at G617

Time since last recorded activity at G617: 879 211 021 hours 14 minutes 32 seconds

In checking the relevance of G617, it has been determined that there is absolutely nothing going on there. In fact, it's been over 100,000 years since anything of importance has happened there at all.

Probability transmission originated at asserted point of origin [ref-G617]: NIL
Possibility of this news submission actually having originated from G617 is zero.

Transmission tagged and shelved [ref-anomalous/sub/falsified]
News submission has been discarded as a falsification.

It's pretty obvious to me.

People REALLY overanalyze things. "OMG Bungie r say sumthing no understood I didn't. REACHHHHH?"

If anything, look at where they said the Mariners were impressed by the new animations. Try to imagine what they could be working on. (Think like, adding boardings in Halo 2...)

Boarding, melees and new enemy animations (New berserk brutes/elites, whichever is in the game) would be my guess, along with jumping and reloading.

New animations doesn't necessarily mean new features. I was more interested in new 3d objects - it implies some pretty cool stuff, because I doubt they'd include that for just scenery.

Doesn't mean you can't analyze what's possible with new animations. Personally, I'm not a fan of any super-analyzing this early on, but I'm just pointing out that they've got one thing that they said about Reach, and then something else that could just be nonsense

But think about it. Really, what else can they make players able to do? Throw grunts? Club enemies with a mongoose? Sprint overlay fast, flip twice in midair and assassinate a chieftain?

We're pretty much at the pinnacle of what players can do. Beyond giving us superhuman powers, there's really not too much they can add.

As for enemies, they can EASILY get new abilities. Grunts might be able to hold two plasma pistols at once. Jackals might be able to bite you. Hunters...well, hunters might be able to literally melt you. Drones might be able to pick people up at will, rather than just where scripted. Jackals might be able to drive certain vehicles. Elites might be able to work together, covering each other from enemies and taking out squads of marines.

The possibilities for enemies are endless. Players? Not quite so much.

I didn't say they had to be for players. Even so, in 2002, if you would've asked me, "What else do you think this guy should be able to do?" Jumping on to an enemy's vehicle and taking it as his own would've been the last thing on my mind.

true. I remember being surprised when I read you could do that, and being like 'why would I want to?'. Then it was awesome.

It would be really cool for enemies to have some new abilites, but new animations for me just points to making them more fluid, moer believable than what we have now.

ya, thats right, you just got owned

My 2 cents: the message is a forerunner AI. The "analysis" of the message is a modern AI stating that its "impossible" and therefore fake.

Yeah, the original message probably sent to a MODERN UNSC AI, which pretty says, it cannot leave it's station to help, (probably saying it's failed, since it's from G617-G1,) saying the fact that you'll not be able to succeed its expectations (first was to find that planet, solve it's mysteries, and then finally stop the flood.) Also probably that the only thing different about what's happen (or what should happen) is the time, but everything is the same.

And the UNSC AI probably got it, read it, went through all the nilks and crannies, saw that what it was saying was impossible and that it didnt know where it came from, and put it as FALSIFIED.

Or I'm probably over thinking this.

Why wouldn't they just flat out reveal that it's a fake news post then?

I'm guessing it's still part of an ARG; or at least tempting the community peeps to start one.
